So was playing Socket for the Sega Genesis, which feels more like a surface level copy paste of Sonic, last night

What are some other blatant clones out there? Good, bad, and just alright?

Alongside Socket, these are some other Sonic-esque games that you should check out and they all play pretty well:

Rocket Knight Adventures
Aero the Acro-Bat (along with the spinoff game Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel)
Jazz Jackrabbit
Rocky Rodent
Freedom Planet
Spark the Electric Jester

And I should have also specified "not just clones of Sonic, but clones of other games in general". Not that a lengthy discussion of Sonic knock offs isn't welcome

I've mentioned this game before, but Magical Doropie for the Famicom, or The Krion Conquest in the US, is a megaman clone thats tough as nails actually and not super fun

There's a Megaman clone out there I know of called Legend of Dark Witch.
It's a pretty standard thoroughfare of the classic tropes of obtaining new moves after defeating new bosses. There's four whole games of this including some spinoffs.

Those spinoffs though? Hear me out.

Brave Dungeon.

A very fun dungeon crawler that where the titular protagonist of the games is seemingly absent and you actually play as the bosses from the mainline entries as your party.

I'm not going to spoil what happens, but this game is incredibly addictive. I've done runs using all possible team comps due to the simple yet incredibly fun game and there's currency you earn for beating runs in general and unlock things like concept art. I'd say the spinoffs are very cool success stories where the clone eventually becomes something really worthwhile of its own.

Modern ports also have the game bundled in with an additional side minigame of Dark Witch's Story Combat, which is a card-oriented game.

Tiny Toons Buster's Hidden Treasure is a pretty good Sonic Clone.

Darkwing Duck is a good Mega Man clone.

Citizen Earth is a decently good Earthbound clone

TMNT Tournament Fighters on SNES is a good Street Fighter II clone

Awesome Possum is a terrible Sonic clone

Darkwing Duck straight uses the MegaMan engine. 🤘

Blatant clones of varying quality?
So, like 85% of all indie releases, lol. :loldog
