Saturn Saturn appreciation thread

Sonic wasn't particularly popular in Japan right? In comparison to the West. Maybe they were trying to compensate, idk.

Then make one or two, making FOUR is insane.

Is amazing Sega of Europe did as good as they did with both Sega of America and Sega Of Japan stupidity, heck they even managed to get Sonic Underground made.

That turned as weird as it did due to Sega Of America refusal to let them use Satam characters that somehow extended to Tails for some reason? You can see that in Underground they got as close as Satam as they could while being legally distinct.

underwhelmed compared to Tekken
Maybe to the Arcade game cause no one liked the first console port of Tekken. And Tekken 1 with way worse graffics was just not interesting. There was way more interesting fighting games on the PlayStation, people just were not playing the Tekken ports until at least the second game. The first Tekken was a graphics showcase more that it was an actually good game.

Megaman 8 for the Saturn has secret levels lacking in any other version of Megaman 8.

Soukyuu Gurentai aka Terra Diver.
Just play it, people. This game is just pure shmup blessing.
First Saturn game ever tried during a con event and immediately felt in love for the (nowadays crusty) visuals and understood what I've missed out. An unlucky console just like the Dreamcast that still both got quite a great amoung of amazing games, both known and unknown.
What is the correct ROM file for Terra Diver to download and play on MAME4DROID? Most of the file downloaded on ROM sites are not working.

I'm mostly a fan of the Saturn's niche 2D games. Stuff like Assault Suit Leynos 2, Hyper Duel, Albert's Odyssey. Their 3D output let a lot to be desired for me. Panzer Dragoon and Virtua Fighter 2 were good, but felt shallow and repetitive. Die Hard Arcade was fire tho.

Albert odyssey was great...except those load times, if those could be fixed the game would have been much better received i think.

I got into the Saturn because it was... easy, I guess. Worked at a Funco back in the late 90's and we had a small group of people who would trek down to an import store in Detroit to buy games and it was glorious. Between everyone in the small group we had six of the Capcom X-men/Marvel/Street Fighter games on the platform (I had Marvel Super Heroes) and we would regularly hold little tourneys during store hours. Based on the reactions we got from people randomly showing up in the store, these games would have sold if they would have seen official release (and more importantly) been widely available.

That's what kind of drives me nuts about some people. They talk about how many of the game just didn't sell, but from my perspective Sega didn't even care. I mean, I was working at a game store in 1997-1998 and knew many of these games were coming out, and yet when requested we were told there was no stock. Many of these games (Rayearth, PD: Saga, and Shining Force III) I never saw until ten years later and in the collections of people who had done massive trades to get them. Ah, oh well.

How come the Saturn port of Street Fighter Alpha came out in the west but not Alpha 2 or 3?
Alpha 2 did come out in the west on the saturn, in the street fighter collection, i know as i own the disk.

That said 3 probably didn't come out in the west due to the saturn mostly being discontinued in the west by the time the game was made, that and the ram cart thing.
