PSP Rockman DASH English patch (because nobody else wants to do it I guess.)

Could probably ask Gemini on Twitter about it. They ported the qol improvements from the PSP ver to the PC ver awhile back

Oh awesome, I'll try reaching out and see if they can help me out. you mind sharing the handle?

I was told that they just injected the data from the PS1 version over to the JP PC version, and that it's very likely possible to do the same for the PSP version. I just have to figure out how to do that.

Im hyped !! Always wanna know whats different in the PSP port of it.

Played the PS1 version so much , i feel bad to take out the disc for the 500th playthrough . ::booshy
the PSP has the same content, but the controls are more similar to the N64 version. which are preferable for me

Hey, have you checked this tool to extract the texts from MegaMan Legends PSX?

I was thinking of doing this too, with a bit of my programming background, but my desire to play a game burns more than learning to translate one, so all the methods and measures I gathered to learn from are sitting unused in my PC and brain.

The tool I shared should be the first step for you, wish you all the best!

I have no programming experience (besides a bit of python) and I cannot understand Japanese, but I have DashEdit and UMDgen. I don't plan on translating the Japanese text, only replacing it with the English localization. Although I was told on Reddit that I may have to work some magic tricks in order to put the English text in because of something to do with fonts.

Good luck with that! It's been a thing I've wanted to see for years, the psp version of this game is very good and it's sad that there's no way to play it in english properly, excited to see where this does, it'll also give me an excuse to replay my favorite ps1 game ever

Yeah, that is true. It's the Variable Width Font that needs to be applied.

Maybe this video could be your next pointer (and other videos in Hilltop's channel):

It's going to be an arduous path, but if you're really going into it, I hope this helps!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the PSP might not be as straightforward as the PC version, due to the added subtitles, but someone who made the previous version of the Spanish patch of MML PSX did meddle with the subtitles for the PSX version. Maybe you could reach them too.

EDIT 2: The tool's in Python, so if you do have an understanding of Python, it's pretty much straightforward. I would refer to other videos on how to create the insertion table, but DashEdit should be sufficient for most of the files.

Actually, while you're obviously not obligated to do so -- especially with how long it would potentially take -- there's this one dude on YouTube who translated the Japanese cutscenes and text into CC subtitles using the PSP version of the game, in order to create a more faithful to the VO experience: [here]

I dunno, was passing through, this caught my eye, felt relevant.

Update: I will be completely honest here, I have not made any real progress with this project. While the school year is finally over, the remaining amount I did have left totally stole my focus away from any passion projects because it was kicking my ass real bad. But now that I'm finally on my summer break, I can get something done. This might take me a long time but it's something I still care about so I won't be completely abandoning this. This week will probably have little progress on my end because my birthday is on wednesday and I'm going out with friends the day after. But I'll try my best to get something done within the next month ::biggrin

It's pretty nice to see someone trying to do this :]
Just try to take it easy and climb the mountain one step at a time, I also want to translate a 3DS game to english eventually even with no knowledge of anything at the moment, so seeing you trying is a pretty strong motivator for me to keep learning.

Also late happy birthday :>

Hey, no worries. It's understandable, especially for a first project when our background's not fitting. I applaud you wanting to do this, though!

Just a side note, if you have made any progresses/not at all, but you have something in mind that needs to be tested, tried or checked, just post your progress or qualms here, maybe I or someone else knows something that could point you somewhere else. After all, this shouldn't be always a one-man project. I can't promise my availability or even ability, but I believe that a call for help won't be wasted.

I actually attempted to do it once, the script itself exist in some places as posted above. My issue is that I was trying to identify the memory adresses for where the text was but I'm really bad at this and eventually got a job that made things even harder to focus on it.

There are some tools on legends station and even prototype versions that will help give some hints, but I think the main challenge is making something that can properly find the memory adresses for the lines, identify how the game processes it (someone once hinted it wasn't just your typical print text command and was probably images, which could be the reason why it is hard to find the memory adress for text) and also you have to program the speed of the text being printed to fit the audio, which will be important for either localization dub or undub cases.

As a plus, there are additional unused voices that might make for a nice extra.

Good luck on your endeavour.

::gran sonrisaI'm glad to hear that

I'm glad to know that someone is taking the time to translate the game, in Latin America there was a group of megaman Legends fans who dedicated themselves to getting a Spanish dub of the first game with the texts translated in that language, I would like the patch to have the voices in Japanese and the translation and terms of that version

So I'm to safely assume the project has been abandoned yeah?

Seems like it which is a shame.
I do find it odd that no one managed to do this given that the PSX and PSP version use the same files structure with the exception of sound files, PSX uses XA files while PSP uses arc file iirc.
All other files are nearly identical so much so I'd wager the PSP port just uses custom built PS1 emulator.

I've tried swapping some of the files but the PSP emulator just ends up crashing due to wrong memory addresses.
