PSP PSP: The Quintessence of Handhelds

I still use the PSP regularly. I love this thing. It has such a good game library. Even after all those years, I'm far from done with it. Especially now with ARK-4 installed. I could buy a Steamdeck or Retroid or so, but so far I don't have the need or urge for it.

we need psp2
2027!! With a bit of luck we then have the PSP2 or aka Playstation 6 handheld. Rumours are that Sony is developing a new handheld set to be released in 2027.

What's this scanline thing with the 3000? I just read about it and I never noticed. I wonder if I'll notice now because I know about it. Or maybe it doesn't affect all 3000s?

The scanlines on the PSP 3000 are true... but there was a lot of drama surrounding the issue. It's really not that big of a deal.

At the time, there was a lot of hate about it. And this image went viral:

Just for criticizing the 3000 model.

The truth is that the 3000's screen was wonderful and it played great on it. Even with that scanlines effect.

The same goes for the PSP 2000 and its screen with ghosting effect.
It's there, but it plays perfectly.

For me, the only PSP screen that was a little off was the one on the 1000 model.

The best screens?
By far, the PSP GO and PSP Street.

i got a psp 1000 either the first or second year they were out, it felt so futuristic and cool, first games i got were twisted metal and burnout. everything changed though when i borrowed my friends copy of gta liberty city stories. i was playing it, and as was the style at the time, i got bored and decided to google to find the cheats so i could get all the weapons and fuck around. a google search for 'liberty city stories cheats' brought up all these results for 'liberty city stories hack' one thing led to another and within an hour i was seeing the nintendo logo and the super mario world title screen on my psp. that was my introduction to the homebrew scene and console hacking/softmodding. it led me to learning lua and later python to make my own shitty homebrew games and the whole scene was super friendly, inviting, and helpful. a lot of cool older dudes in the scene who had no business giving a snotnosed kid like me the time of day really went out on a limb and im super appreciative of that to this day. the psp is a lot more than another console to me.

It's called interlacing. This is also the case with the PS2.

the PSP remains the sexiest console design ever besides having such an impressive library and being great for emulation...
Truly a perfect legacy.
