What are some of your pet peeves?

Me? I can't stand it when a song starts on mono, because it immediately makes me think that my crappy headphones have just started failing, which is yet another thing I can't tolerate.

I get it a lot on my way to work here, especially on weekends. They step out into the road without even looking, and then look at me as though I'm the one in the wrong.

This drives me crazy. Here in my city NO ONE walks on the sidewalk, everyone walks on the street, the edge of the road or the bike lane. I understand that some sidewalks are so narrow that not even one person can fit, but very often, the sidewalk has room for 5 people and they still walk down the street.

Lately I've been thinking about kicking them when I'm riding my bike...

Littering is the worst. This goddamn city is full of trash because people just won't throw their shit in trash cans. Fair enough, trash cans are somewhat rare in this god forsaken hell hole (the main street at the center of the city has 0 trash cans) but, it's too much to keep their trash with them until they can dispose of it properly? I've seen people on the bus eating a candy or something and then throwing the wrapper out the window. Seriously, people has no education.

I can't stand littering. I'm the type or person who chases down my trash if it gets blown away by the wind. There's so much broken glass in my neighborhood. And people dump their trash in abandoned lots and random street corners even though we have weekly municipal pickup.

Put your own trash by your own curb.

I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT WIRELESS HEADPHONES. I hate charging them. I hate connecting them through Bluetooth. I hate the stupid voice in my ears going "Device connected :)" and "Device disconnected :(". I hate how they always, always seem to run out of power right when I get to the good bit of a song. I hate how insanely fragile and breakable they are. I hate how they're all made in useless sizes – the over-ear ones are too big to carry around, earbuds are easily losable, and the ones connected by a strap get caught on things and are impossible to store without tangling. I HATE HOW EVERY SINGLE DIFFERENT BRAND HAS ITS OWN INDIVIDUAL METHODS OF CONNECTING, PAUSING, AND ADJUSTING VOLUME.

Years ago, when this world was still pure, you could buy a cheap $8 set of wired Sony earbuds that plugged into anything perfectly and sounded excellent, including built-in volume and pause/play controls. Now, the only options are buggy, unwieldy apparatuses that sound horrible unless you pay through the nose and need to be charged every seven milliseconds. The Apple executive that decided "Hey, let's remove the headphone jack from our phones! :)" needs to be permanently blacklisted from the tech industry and, indeed, this planet as a whole.

A big reason why I hate movies and TV nowadays is how poorly they mix the audio. I'm not just referring to a character whispering or yelling, I mean a line of dialogue and the line following it will be delivered the same way but one will be louder than the other or much quieter, and I keep having to play DJ and adjust my volume CONSTANTLY. No matter what device I use, all modern TV Shows and Movies have this issue, whether it's my TV, my "smart"phone, or my computer. And if it's not the random volume spikes, it's the fact that the dialogue is just so damn muffled too (yes, I clean my ears regularly), I pretty much have no choice but to use subtitles. It's specifically "prestige" TV like Breaking Bad and Mindhunter that are like this, guess I'll just stick to Anime.

Some other Pet Peeves of mine are games with Always-Online bullshit, which I hate on principle but also because I live in the sticks so my internet sucks ass so I can't always be online, cookie pop ups on websites, insurance companies that give you junk mail in the form of those thick books, websites that auto-play videos or audio, anything that claims to be either Smart or AI Powered, it's the same thing really and they're both equally worthless.

One of my big, big pet peeves with games is unskippable cutscenes. A lot of games don't have a good action/exposition balance and thus you get 10-15 minute lore dumps before you are even able to get in on the action.

Ok... so I bought wireless earbuds because the headphones I had been using had the stupidest quirk ever: a nano connection error that caused them to dial back the volume every couple of seconds -- it drove me f*** nuts.

But I had to take these back to the store (and look like a complete moron) because I didn't realize the manufacturer had pasted tiny bits of paper on the charging contacts to prevent an accidental activation on the box. Woulda been nice to tell me! They were even the same color and shape as the metal bits they were covering!

If I could, I would be back to using my Walkman.

Movies and TV shows that either have no subtitles or they're really bad.

unncesary backtracking in games, i love Digimon World 3, but hate how fucking boring and slow walking is, since every main and side quest makes you do a ton of backtracking if you want to progress.

Making unoptimised games because the dev assumes we buy the latest GPU.

Making a game realistic for the sake of being realistic without having any proper art style on its own because they think that "realism = good looking; cartoony = for kids."

Absolutely.

I mean when someone snaps at you for no reason.

Because there are plenty of legit reasons to be rude, but the uncalled-for kind is simply unacceptable.

Oh I get it, like when someone says it to sound smart or completely unprompted. Those are the real assholes indeed.
