And why does it suck? Can we get some proper explanations other than "sports bad"? I mean it's a bit of a cliche that gamers (and anime fans) don't like sport.
I'll try but I can only frame it from my own point of view and I know it isn't widely shared:
- Watching a game of football is absolute torture because of how long it takes. 10 seconds of action inbetween seemingly never-ending periods of lining back up to do it all over again. The last two minutes of a game takes like an hour.
- The commentary that's always some old player making non-statements like "you know, they got a job to do, so the only thing to do is to go out there and do that job" because they don't have much else to offer in terms of insight other than specific situations that remind them of one of their own old games.
- Concussions and their potential impact on player life expectancy. Granted, they're adults and make the choice to play, but that doesn't mean they should be compromised so much for their post-playing life.
- Football culture in the US. That kind of loud and in-your-face "let's drink a beer and paint team logos on our tits" thing just seems overbearing and trying to compensate for other shortcomings. There's also probably some link between sports and drunk driving, but I would assume that is not specific to the US nor to just football, but it's unfortunate.
That said, playing a little pickup game in the street two-hand touch style was always fun, and when they package the televised games in such a way that they cut out the fluff so you get just the plays, that's far easier to appreciate. But I've just never been a football guy.
