Non-Gaming Hot Takes

Gaming, like any hobbies, has always been a luxury.

I know that it may sound weird to say but this is not mandatory to stay alive therefore it's not mandatory in life either.

I've mentally accepted that if (and that's a big "if") video games went to disappear (whether because of another crash or from being too expensive for the average people) then so be it. Yes, it'd be sad in a cultural sense (like losing books or painting in a fire) yet I'd prioritise survival over amusement.

Perhaps in the later half of the century we'll have to learn with a minimalistic life style because of the limited ressources and funds we may have but I'm no economist so take this with a grain of salt.

If your job is to do door-to-door soliciting, you should be required to have something that proves you're with the company you claim to be with. A uniform would be ideal, but maybe a business card or... anything? Also, if your job is to do door-to-door soliciting and the person goes, "I'm not interested, thanks" and you continue your sales pitch by trying to reposition it another way and the person goes, "I'm not interested, thanks," take the hint. I don't want to be rude to a guy that is legit out trying to do his job, but pick up on cues and tone and facial expressions, maybe? I always end up cutting someone off, which I hate doing, and going, "look. I said already. I'm not interested. Have a good rest of your day" and they just stare in disbelief.

So basically what I'm saying is: if I don't post after tonight, that means the guy wasn't with anyone, was casing my place, and came back to murder me.

"If you dont know, then dont pretend that you know"

I don't know if it's a hot take to say that but...

I don't see the issue about the "tumblr sexy man" character archetype. Of course if the character is boring it's an issue but nothing to do with their appearance.

The movies that get award-nominated nowadays are rigged. They need to check specific boxes in order to always win, and i'm not talking about technical things like actors performance and writing, but about the message the movie is trying to pass on. In other words, unless you make the movie the critics want to see, your movie won't get nominated.

I used to see a joke about when a movie had a sad scene being called an "oscar nomination moment".

Out of curiosity: when did nowadays start?

Since 2020 to this day. It's been happening gradually over time, but now movies need to check certain boxes to be awarded. Just look at Emília Perez, a movie that won 2 oscars, loved by the critics but hated by the general public because of their awful and a lot of times disrespectful representation of Mexican culture.

I see. But "oscar bait" has been a term for like 80 years, so...?

It's a hot take cause many people today still believes that the judgement for this awards are fair and equal, the exception nowadays being Emilia Perez ::cirnoshrug

i remember hearing about the stage play doing something really baffling once. a bunch of people paid money for the tickets, only to learn that the play was doing the entire thing outside of the theater for free to anyone who was passing by on the street.

People padding post counts adds nothing to the discussion and makes it a chore to slog through topics. I get it if the topic is like "what is your favorite kind of food" and you reply and just go "tacos" because the topic isn't asking for a dissertation about it. But when someone goes tacos and another person replies "yum", why bother? Just like the post and move on.

Pineapple goes on pizza

A hot take of mine is that most of A24's films are abject dogshit and not worthy of mention. Same goes with Jordan Peele's films, there are not worth the shit on my shoes. Another hot take is that my opinions are infallible and gospel truth for I am the lanternbearer in the dark, the arbiter of truth.

There are people that actually hate A24 movies, i don't know why. They do so many genres, and with a level of quality that you don't see everyday in mainstream Hollywood, that is bound to please most tastes out there ::cirnoshrug

Out of curiosity: when did nowadays start?
For me it's ever since Titanic.

I don't dislike the movie, just that it's obvious what directors have to do to get better favours from the curators.

I think it came from SMS/instant message platforms. Forums are indeed a bit different from Discord/FB/Twitter/etc...

I don't know where, but it needs to go back where it came from either way.

My new hot take: we should make a spatial awareness test that everyone has to pass before they are allowed in public. Whether that's in a car or standing at a store.

That's something I also have an issue with. They make these slow-burn, "methodical" films with perhaps a socio-political message covered in above average framing, blocking, etc etc. It's all just watered down art house films made to make mainstream audiences feel smart for watching them, makes them feel like a cinephile. It's for people that can't be bothered to read subtitles. This isn't even some sort of elitist "oh, it's not like this 1960s Yugoslavian black wave film) jerk off sess, anyone who does even the smallest dive below the surface will come to this conclusion.
