Non-Gaming Hot Takes

As an italian appreciate you putting pasta over rice, however it wasn't number 1 so I'm afraid I'm gonna have to take your thumbs
In the deep frozen wastes we learn from the medicine women and the chieftain at an early age that it is always funny to belittle Italian and French cooking

(even though they’re actually probably the best)

But I dislike the whole "hard childhood" because it implies that kids having abusive parents will end up being abuser themselves systematically (and making jokes about the "quiet kid").

Also people should stop feeling bad for liking a villain. On the net it's easy to say "if your favourite character is the Joker then it's a red flag about you" when we are smart enough to know that liking isn't condoning.

Edit: Also I find it weird how they also correlate evil with geniuses. Like the most cliche villain name is "Doctor something" while good doctors are mostly for medicine (or they're being called Professor).

After reading The Killing Joke again, while I think The Joker does not need a backstory to exist, I can tell that even before he turned into what he is there was something uncanny about that person (as if he always had that madness going around before the incident finally unleashed it).

Well kids that have shit parents can end up as all sorts of bad stuff, not every time but it's a factor; I do think that modern shows try not making the villain Too Bad or else the viewers might not sympathize with them, which makes em boring. I like a villain that does bad stuff but I can still imagine how he feels. I love Ramses from Prince of Egypt that's a good example

But going back to what you said earlier yeah, I want my evil bastards back, proud evil geniuses or demons or sadists
Remember when villains had cool deaths? Those were the days..
Speaking of live action I'd also love more villains that were just Cool like Alex DeLarge from Clockwork Orange. I can't remember the last time In saw a villain in a modern movie that was just fun to watch

It’s an adaptation sure but I loved Austin Butler’s character in Dune 2. Dude was impossible to read and a joy to watch for it.

With how many adaptations have nothing to do with the og I'd still count it
I've been meaning to read dune for a while or at least watch the 90s movie because it's listen in book of lost memories (official lore book for silent hill) as one of the ispirations

The new movie is more accurate than the old one, in general.
But you should still watch the old one because it’s a David Lynch film and if you like Silent Hill you should watch everything he has ever made :)

I got one, thanks to @Bjorvy.
Twin Peaks was cool because it was more regulated than Lynch's regular stuff.
I would not sit down to watch 30 episodes of "No hay banda"

Oh! I've always wanted to do this on a nerd forum but I never had the chance because I was too young and I finally watched em a few years ago but it's like the primordial forum argument. (Might not even be a remotely hot take nowadays lol)

Picard > Kirk

For the record I watched the whole thing, it was before I realized the animation industry I grew up with (not just the 00s, I watched all sorts of stuff from the 40s onwards) no longer exists so I still watched everything new

Good animation I can't deny that
Not good enough to save this shit, bland ass perfect boring character that wont even harm a completly evil woman, perfect boring side character; the only thing I remember about him is that he's gay, I think he repaired stuff? Animal side kick thats just there to be annoying
There was the little girl that had A Little more going on? But she gets one 2 min flashback the rest is her being angry until the main character convinces her to be happy
Boring ass parents
The gay guy gets a boyfriend, I dont remember anything about him other than he likes music and had a cassete player
The anthro animals were cute
It felt like someone's mediocre webcomic was given a ton of money

Why did they cancel infinity train but this crap stays on the air???

Olimar > space dandy>picard and kirk. the true order of space captains.

the people in charge are the ones who bully the nerds and otakus and think that if something is animated it can not be deep or mature.
i would like to introduce those people to evangelion, apocalypse zero, genocyber, mad bull 34, ghost in the shell and cowboy bebop. i don't think that they have ever actually seen a cartoon before ever in their lives.

Hahahaha I was actually thinking of that exact Simpsons scene, which led me to the realization that I need to add my vote to the eternal fight.

Oh, you dweebs are back in your cartoon swamp, HERE'S ONE FOR YA.

I thought the first season of Smiling Friends was pretty much immaculate, but the over-reliance on "real-talk" jokes ruined a HUGE part of the second season to me, even though that season probably had my favorite episode, but the jokes fell flat way more often.

OK KO >> Steven Universe (I still like Steven U)
I never finished OK KO but I hear it sort of lost steam pretty early on and had an identity crisis? I really liked the cute artstyle though.
Never seen SU, but I'd probably like it more now than at the age when it was current. My brother was a pretty big fan, iirc.

I explained why I hated it if you're curious
I'll just get around to watching it myself. "I don't remember much and as far as I remember everything was generic" isn't a lot to latch onto.

Asking the question of "Why did Netflix and Dreamworks make this while Cartoon Network cancelled Infinity Train" is also not a great closer. They're diff companies with diff business models making diff things with diff appeal.

There's a lot to be said about how western culture doesn't appreciate adult animation but I love using something like Genocyber as an example of deep or mature animation. It's fun, it's brutal, but it's far from deep or mature beyond surface aesthetics. To be fair, we've been getting more and more adult animation over the years beyond what Adult Swim has on offer. "Love, Death and Robots", The Midnight Gospel, Invincible, Scavenger's Reign etc etc. If we open it up to stop motion stuff like Shivering Truth and Mad God have made some waves too. Nevermind the fact that western studios like Netflix have started greenlighting Japanese animated projects as the market grows more and more in the west.

There's obviously still a lot of ground that needs to be covered, but its clear that the space is becoming more respected, and the market has shown itself to be there in enough of a capacity for studios to want to fund projects.

Actually, why the hell are we bringing up Mad Bull 34 in reference to a show that is literally rated Y7? Not gonna lie this comment just feels like projection to me.

No man, I loved it
I loved the animation, it was genuinely funny, the one modern show alongside steven u that used game references without em being hamfisted (chip damage is a genius superhero name)

As for the identity crisis bit, I think you're referring to the ending getting more serialized suddenly, yeah thats because the show ended early su they rushed the finale; it's a real shame but at least it ended
And hey unlike steven universe it didnt leave a ton of characters in the dust

Thanks for the rundown.
I'll probably give it another shot whenever I have the time then. I suck at bingewatching and watching shows in general, so I'll come back to you in 14 years with my thougts.
