Myrient is closing March 31, 2026

Hope this doesn't become an issue for RGT
most likely not. i think most of the costs is for storage. don't forget, myrient has ps3, xbox/360 and wiiu games. those can take up a lot of space. ff13 on the ps3 is 40 gb.
that is the main reason why we won't see those kinds of games over here for a long while, if ever.

Hopefully someone can go through and get the stuff only on Myrient onto archive. A lot of it already is but not all. The roms megathread heavily relied on Myrient but also had archive links, maybe they'll be the ones to transfer everything over.

i hope so. i think the xbox and 360 games have the least archiving at the moment.

We better take some games from Myrent & put them here on RGT. (Not the PS3, X360 & WIIU games. Like En said, they are too large for RGT)
i think there is a good amount of overlap so there shouldn't be too much to look for and add if we are missing any. i think it would mainly be the systems that came before the snes, like the atari 2600, zedx spectrum, commadore 64 and the like.

The problem is that's the stuff that is the most poorly archived, particularly PS3/360 digital and DLC. Discs & carts are a lot easier to keep track of.

why is it shutting down?

Then you haven't been looking hard enough.
There is so much missing from the Repo, it feels like a stretch to call it a repository at all; just the other day I was searching for Snake, Rattle & Roll on NES, and had to go to some other site for it since we only had the Genesis version (which I didn't know existed), apparently.

Yes, but the question is "what". What games do they have up there that we don't?

Right, so, that seems like the best place to start.

Are they bad rips or something?

What we need to be doing is archiving things like all the original Famicom Disk System games, some of the patches for these require a version that's an original and not a "bad dump"; which is what most of the ones you can find online are. Myrient doesn't have that problem.

Maybe I am the only one thinking about it, but you need to be rich or have a very very good job / salary in order to be able to pay even for a few months those 6000 dollars monthly. I believe saying that amount is not an info anyone needs.

It's not that other places have bad rips, they're just simply not there at all. I've had many cases where the only place that had the file at all was Myrient. They're not as widely shared, probably because emulation for both aren't as common as other older platforms.

i meant in a more general sense, since quite a bit is archived on the internet archive as well as a few other sites.
it will take some time, but as long as some people out there at least grab the stuff now, we can compile it all together later.

the games are massively huge. mgs4 has about half of it's stuff archived in the disc just to fit it on there, like zip folders and other compressed file types. and it takes a while for people to figure out how to decrypt discs as well. the gamecube, wii and wiiu all have their own speciallized discs that are ever so slightly different enough from regular dvd types that you pretty much have to use the system to rip the data off of them.

Don't take these things for granted; lost media does happen, even nowadays.

Just when I've known about the site a few days ago.::dkfacepalm
Time to take a few days to aggressively download as much as you can keep.

We need to be walking out with both arms full in order to salvage this wreckage.

After The Eye went down, myrient has been my go-to for downloads for a while. It's been so good, I figured it couldn't last forever. Makes me feel a bit guilty for not donating. RIP to a real one.

Is there even a good alternative at this point? Vimm's has some missing patches since a bunch of Nintendo and Sega stuff was taken down, and the same is true for Internet Archive. Not to mention all of the stuff that's Myrient exclusive... I know we have a whole month left but still. It truly is a tragedy.

Haven't even thought about that site in so long.
