Mental health thread

I never contributed anything positive to this world, though.

I don't know how is your real life but i saw many of your great comments and your work as a Bass propagandist is extremely positive to this site.

I'm really happy to have you around here.

Even though I doubt that, contributing to society is an overrated concept anyways.

The worst, most swept-under-the-rug issue with society is the idea that you’re REQUIRED to take part in it order to be ”worth” anything.

The world’s gigantic, and you only get one shot. Before even considering ”contributing” to society, the single most important part of your life is you. Make the best of it, focus on the things you find joy in. Never conform if it makes you miserable.

I consider myself an optimist, but I too have extreme anxiety issues, and coupled with gastrointestinal issues and it creates a vicious cycle of self doubt that leads to physical pain that leads to mental pain. The past few years post-covid I became much more of a hermit than I already was because, frankly, the world is too fast and loud for me. But while becoming reclusive, I made a concentrated effort on focusing my attention my on, and surrounding myself with, things that I find joy in. It doesn’t work 100% (and it’s probably good that it doesn’t) but I found that it’s much better than not doing it, because before I was miserable all the time. I woke up every single morning feeling like I was going to puke and my stomach and throat were in knots. It wasn’t me, it was the world that made me feel like that.

Suffering is subjective, and everyone suffers differently, but that doesn’t make one person’s hardships less or more important than another’s. The most important part is finding your own mental garden and tending to it your own way. It might take time and people might not get it, but it’s worth it in the end because you’re doing it for your own sake.

You’re the protagonist in your life. It’s not selfish to focusing efforts to make your life feel better. It’s healthy and just.

This turned into a longer post than I anticipated, so sorry if it looks rambling.

This planet has seen more than 100 billion humans come and go throughout history. How many can you name? How many are written in history books? To go even further beyond, how many are even mentioned on Wikipedia?

The king's name lives on forever, for better or worse, but who were the "no-name" masons who built the castle's walls? Who were the average farmers who kept the entire kingdom alive? Who were the people around these "nobodies" who supported them on a daily basis in tiny ways and allowed them to maybe enjoy the tiny, splinter of a fraction of time we get on this rock?

There's nothing inherently wrong with striving for fame or fortune, but basing the entire value of your yourself on how much you contribute to society is statistically foolish, in my opinion.

When you feel down, look at this picture and you will feel a little bit better.

How come mental health issues are so common on the internet?
I think that many are self-diagnostised when it comes to several things.

Not to say that people with issues aren't real but I feel sometimes that many want to have people telling nice things to them.

I understand that feeling, especially if same people don't have many to interact with irl.

I'm guessing therapists are also expensive so there's that.

I'll be honest, I would totally hate to feel like a parasite profiting from other's work.

I'd still argue that if nobody was productive at all we wouldn't even be a civilisation with technologies to begin with.

Ants have good and bad workers so it's probably just statistical about nature (which is more noticeable when we are eight billions).

But I can understand that not everyone is fit for a 7-11 6/7 schedule and that there are disabled people that can simply not work on physically demanding works.

This is why creative jobs should also get encouraged (even if realistically some are simply better than others in an area).

Internet lets people express things that they'd usually keep to themselves.
I have been teached to keep things to myself simply because there are always people having it worse than me.

Yes, I know it's not healthy to think like that but I want to keep some decency towards people who cannot eat each day, don't have a roof or simply are condemned to live in a bed for the rest of their lives.

On Social Media? I suggest you stop using those sites. Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok etc. are bad for you and most people really, they were never meant to connect people and actively discourage discussions with how they are structured.
It's just mindless entertainment to keep you busy, feed you content and ads, and pit people against each other, all this while stealing your data of course.
I firmly believe that social networks are harmful to youths and society as whole, if you really are 15 you should avoid those places like the plague.

I gotta put this here after these couple pages I just caught up on. The internet and the real world is very different, even if it doesn't seem to be the case, especially today. What I mean is that, if you surround yourself with regular everyday people, and not keyboard warriors and political slop (an issue I've been going rounds with myself) you may feel better. I like scrolling these forums and talking to people here, everyone is quite respectful and mindful. And everyone has something interesting to say. It's been a breath of fresh air for me for a few months since I signed up. Not too many places like this left on the internet. But back to my point. You gotta stay mindful of all of this garbage that gets uploaded to the internet and not let the crazies get you down, it's always gonna seem as if there's no hope left when that's all you hear no matter what online platform you use. Especially YouTube, man I wish my algorithm would just gravitate back to retro stuff and ytp's, I've tried to revert it for months now, I can't win lol.

I still can't understand why some people are acting like "holes" just because they have anonymity and are comfortably hidden behind their screen.

I am against doxxing but this is the kind of stuff that will probably make companies remove the concept of anonymity online.

Such as having to give and ID or having the IP displayed next to a pseudonym.

But I will be murdered/kidnapped if I go outside while alone
