Mega Man Megathread

Of all the classic mega man 2. But favorite mega man is the zero series but that because they are part of my favorite genre.
I'd almost consider them as spin-offs (despite being canon).

While Metroidvanias are fine by themselves I still think that Mega Man shines the most when it's a classic action platformer with a semi linear progression.

This is coming from somebody who prefers Classicvanias as well.

yeah I totally agree with you on that but I do love zero series allot. But as you cay the classic are the best. But if we say it like this best mega man game for me is Mega man 2 which I still love allot.

All time favorite spin off well mega man Zero and the first Battle Network game as it´s the only one I played so far. I dod enjoy the first game but I never manage to play the other. Some day I will buy the Battle Network collections also wanna get my hands on Star Force collection I never played them either.

Third favorite spin off Misadventures of Tron Bonne as the game was fun and she is one of my favorite charter.

One has to wonder how much Capcom hates X8 since it was the game that let an open ending (for Axl at least) and killed the numbered games for the X saga

Command Mission ignores everything from the past (the only time Sigma isnt mentioned, but how much of an chin-ass he was maybe no one wants to remember him) so Axl shows up like nothing.... unless you count the power to transform into the bosses instead of random enemy robots an upgrade

Stupid question but what if X9 comes out but is a more light-hearted game (until the very end of it)?

No way. They made X to be the "serious and edgy" version of Megaman and that was set as stone on the main numbered games since X4 started to kill a lot of people off-screen

Even if Sigma "totally" died in X8 there is a chance they pull an ass-chin twist to make the Zero virus or the Axl thing important

Then again, making the Zero virus plot important again could mean making the connection to the Zero saga a thing

And we all know how Capcom hates to connect the sagas even if they share a timeline in canon.

Reason for why they will never show Willy creating Zero in the main game, because that could mean the end of the classic saga and they dont want that at all

I love Legends, but I found 2 to be a downgrade in almost every area — especially the writing.

It also feels awfully disjointed and overflowing with filler.
Interesting! I haven’t made it there yet, cuz the rpg setup is something I’m still not entirely sold on for Megaman (though i have been enjoying battlenetwork 2 :) )

If you DO play it, I can at least tell you that the control fix someone made makes it MUCH more playable than the original.

Cool I never could beat legends 1, because any device where I play it stop working or my saves get deleted for accidentally...
But I am waiting for beat MMBN3 and other games to finally complete MML

Try the N64 version on Android through N64Droid or the PS1 version on ePSXe (also Android) — I can vouch for both.

Mega Man Legends is one of my favourites of all time, and it's sequel was definitely a downgrade in many ways. But hey at least we got something!

The ps1 version is the way to go with MML. Textures, colours and sound quality are but a few reasons. The n64 version is a below average port of a game designed for another system.

If it was your only option of playing it, I'd say go ahead, but with emulation then it's a no brainer.

If / when you play the sequel, make sure you get the "psp improvements" patch for the ps1 which fixes a very slow/annoying section on the original PS1 version of MML2.

I'll keep that in mind when I go to play it

While I can agree about the "more serious and edgy" I feel like X1 was a good balance between seriousness while still keeping some of Classic's feel with the levels and colours.

My biggest fear is if Capcom tries to make a "Shadow Labyrinth" with Mega Man, thinking that people want to see a return in a genre that is popular today and a really dark setting. Hopefully Capcom could also understand the right balance between serious and lighthearted and I hope MM12 won't fall into the edgy side of things.

I feel that Kirby is one of the few series that managed to perfectly balance it.

Given how much they hated super adventure Rockman, is easy to say that they wont use the classic Megaman for dark stuff and create a new alternate Megaman for said kind of idea (just to make X fans even more angry)

While I can agree about the "more serious and edgy" I feel like X1 was a good balance between seriousness while still keeping some of Classic's feel with the levels and colours.

That was their first try and wanted to make sure fans of the classic also liked the new X. Game didnt get dark until Xtreme/X4 where they started to tell a more deep story

Hell, X4 started with LOTS of lives lost in the very first stage with Magma Dragoon pettiness

Then a repeat with Dynamo in X5

Then..... well, you know how petty chin-ass Sigma is

Dynamo is mid af IMO.

It should have been Vile who came back in X5 and took that, since that game felt like callback compilation, it would have been more appropiate seeing the return of Vile to give X one last Middle Finger, would have been a better way to re-introduce him instead of X8 where he is just kinda there after a 4 game absence.
