Mega Man Megathread

Maybe in the original saga (a big maybe), but in the Zero series and later it was confirmed that Reploids and humans did fall in love sometimes.

In X, we have the Zero and Iris case but it was more for drama than anything. The series was "too serious" for that with Sigma being an ass every single time he had the chance.

Doesn't help much that from ZX humans are more cyborgs and the only way to tell someone is a reploid is if they have that crystal thing in their head.

And lets not start with the whole Carbons (Roll and Tron) being in love with Volnutt in Legends. There are hints that he isn't as naive with Roll about it.

Tron is the one with the bad luck.
Oh right, since X' Reploids are more advanced than the Robots from the Classic series it may be actually more plausible, thanks for clarifying it.

Wait, were there Reploids and humans together or that was only hinted?

There is an NPC in Zero that tells a long story about how he got in love with a human. To the point he changed his parts to look older and older as the time goes

In the end he decided to keep the changes to remember the time he had with her

This and also other hints. Problem is that with the whole "original program: must protect humans" the thing become a little hard to make a complete fact

That's kinda bold that Capcom was fine with it but it's interesting. I'm wondering if it could be facing some sort of discriminations but the series isn't about deeper themes like that.

That's a bit cute.

Asimov's laws are applying in this series too?

Thats the one law that has been part of the series since the original. If a robot did hurt a human then said robot must be terminated

In one game we got the only time where Megaman was tired of Wily and almost killed him for good and Wily himself used it as a shield.... that didnt work (seems that they regret this ending since Megaman never did something like this, or was mentioned again)

From Megaman X it was part of the base program in the reploids, if the robot failed the order then it was marked as a Maverick

Problem is, being called a "Maverick" sometimes has been a huge question mark if there is a gray area or not in it (see Megaman X3->Extreme->X4 repliforce whole story being a mess of an example)

Then another story was the Elf Wars that made things worse in all ways possible

Well, I've done it. I've read every single Mega Man manga that's available in English. Everything except 4-koma, because I'm not reading corny jokes (I make enough of those myself)

Mr. Mega Man was my favorite manga out of all of them. I've always wondered what happened to the original Mega Man before the X series began and I'm content with accepting that he eventually became a dentist in a time peace and, having no other choice, suited back up when a new threat emerged. Good stuff, good stuff.

The only logical thing to do now is... read all the Mega Man comics as well ::sailor-embarrassed

I got pretty far into Archie's comics and I read all of Dreamwave's already. Udon's are the newest, and shortest, so I think I'll start there. And it's been so long since I read Archie that I might as well start over.

Gaming wise I still haven't beaten Mega Man 7, that game is hard af and it makes me rage, but I can't play the other Mega Man games until it's beaten, so...

Blah blah blah look at me yap.

This is the worst part of the game for me because it gives fuel to all the creepy people who are way too invested in the idea of Rock and Roll being romantically involved.
aren't mega man and roll siblings of some sort? it always seemed to me that they were more like brother and sister than anything else.

By definition they don't share the same blood nor half of the DNA (since they're machines) but in a way it's kinda like Astro Boy and Uran being made by the same creator so they have kind of the same "father".

okay. i'm not super familiar with the classic part of mega man, but from what i know and seen, it seemed that they were kind of like siblings. thanks.::peacemario

yeah, i know that them being robots means that they aren't related in the same sense that humans would be, but i have seen in other series that having robotic or artificial characters being created by the same person or being made around the same time in the same group are usually grouped together as family members of some sort. my life as a teenage robot is a good example of this, with jenny having 8 sisters and a mom in quotation marks.

All the robots that Dr.Light created are Mega and Roll siblings too

Just that the whole Wily "Robot Masters" and the Law of human protection made stuff complicated

Powered Up even made a good job with this. If you finish the Robot Masters with the buster then they dont get destroyed (like in almost all main games series) and Dr.Light can "fix" them and they become playable

I really need to play that game then.

Germany’s Nintendo Club Magazine has this pretty sick Mega Man 2 artwork exclusive to it that I personally hadn’t seen before!

For some weird reason I feel like Megaman could've been red like any japanese protagonists because more than often it's the case (like in Sentais, Red is systematically the leader/number one of the squad).

Protoman being red makes more sense since he's literally #00 in the Robot Master list.

No, possibly not.

Yeah, I know. Sadly after their bizarre mishandling of the MML3 Project, I don't think Capcom wants to touch that series again. We haven't even gotten a Legends Collection, and it's the only MM series missing one. At this point all I can hope for is for the 3DS prototype of Legends 3 to leak someday.

Well, at least Tron is the Morrigan of the Megaman games in crossovers so Legends is not totally out of the picture

The weird part is that Mega and Roll shows up less than her

I feel like “grow IP” in this case means merchandise. All three of these IP are dormant for various reasons, so perhaps they’re seeking to make not new games, but perhaps shows and films, as well as market the merchandise potential of all three.

Capcom literally spell it out that they "aim to expand [their] user base and improve [their] performance through new releases, remakes, and ports of titles in these series to new hardware." I know a lot of us here are pessimistic about Capcom's treatment of Mega Man and other franchises, but let's not make things up.

They most likely will try with the ports first to see if there is hype for remakes next

After Maverick Hunter and Powered Up failed what they wanted to get, i dont see them go for remakes too soon

Maverick Hunter doesn't look like a Megaman game...

Powered up is much more cute and kinda fits the classic games.

The problem is that both where the start of the "remakes" for the classic and X games

Maverick Hunter was a total remake of the first X game. But since it didnt have anything worth it outside of Vile mode (that also has its problems) and new-3D-whatever, not to mention nostalgia, there wasnt much reason to buy it unless you are a Megaman fan

Powered Up was also the "first of many" that they had plans for the classic era. But the chibi look ended making people ignore the fact that it was a solid remake with crap tons of extras and replayable as much as one wants with the custom stages

Powered Up was the one that got it bad. Even when you keep in mind that megaman isnt really like X, so a SD style megaman goes fine with him (again, fans and the sales seems to say otherwise)

Well that DOES give me substantially more hope! I also believe in “guiding figures” for games getting made: somebody on the inside whom truly believes in a given game and is willing to put their job on the line for that belief. Perhaps, considering how beloved the character is, there are multiple people inside modern Capcom that are “guiding figures” that intend to keep Rockman alive.

Oh so it was the same thing with Zelda Wind Waker where people didn't want chibi style back?
