Mega Man Megathread

I don't like that enemies in mega man were removed from the boss corridor since mega man 2, since in mega man 1 you could use them to refill your resources, specially weapon energy
You see, if you died in a boss fight and spent most of your weapon energy in it you were screwed from mm2 onwards, and you can't backtrack to the previous part of the stage in any game , and weapon energy didnt refill until MUCH later
Maybe to prevent people from cheesing the game.

I really like the game, but I think the first Mega Man should have been called Mega Platformer, or Mega Platformer Knightmare. I think that game is at traumatizing level, in that aspect.

MegaMan 9
MegaMan 10
And Megaman & bass
are more difficult

I will never not love that song in any form
Megaman 2 may be overrated (then again A Link to the Past is also overrated for bringing the franchise to another level) but this song will never get old.

Am I crazy to say that MM&B isn't that difficult? Except the final levels which are very hard on every MM game ever.

I feel that Zero 1 deserves to be on that list, it's way too punishing (Very obvious case of first game syndrome)

Fr, zero 1 feels like hell at some parts.
But I still think X6 is the most difficult of all
That true
I hate zero 1

I would like MM2 more if it had the slide at least, this and MM1 are the only ones that really feel outdated, like, ""NES games are ancient"" type of outdated, all the others have aged much better and are better experiences in my eyes.

I could also say that to MM9 and MM10, 10 at least tries something more unique with each level, 9 feels bs at times though.

Mega Man 9, 10, and 11 for "Mr. Perfect" and "Dr Light's Trial". I honestly hate those three games. I can't stand when people revive retro series and feel obligated to make them stupidly hard as if that's all that old games were known for.

Mega Man X6 was only hard due to rushed and sloppy design. Mega Man X 7 is a much better game but everyone got so butthurt about it having 3d gameplay in it that it gained this reputation as the worst one in the series. Frankly, I'd rate MM X 7 over MM X8 as well. MM X4 is the best Playstation era Mega Man X game by far. MM X5 is the second best one and is really only dragged down by that randomizer nonsense. And MM X7 is the third best one. MM X6 is the worst one and MM X8 is almost as bad. MM X7 is a very solidly designed MM X game with the right level of difficulty and no annoying bullshit.

Mega Man X9 should be done with 16-bit graphics just because it would be fun to see them revisit Zero's sprite in 16-bit and redesign it to something that works better than the one he had in MM X3. MM X9 should also definitely resolve what happened between the classic series and the MM X series with a cut scene or something.

I don't even want to talk about those stupid MM Zero games.

I really want to like X8, but there's just not enough level design in that game to fully use it's potential, half of them are terribly designed, the demake does fix all these issues so, even if I'd say that fangames shoudn't be compared to official stuff (the sonic fanbase taught me that), X8 16-bit IS better simply because it fixes the dumb design that drags the original, and the mod that adds Zero and Axl is now safe to use (spyware drama that happened in july), so there's not much that is missing from the original.

About X7, I'll just say that it's bad reputation is deserved and it's attempt at 3D MMX gameplay it's horribly flawed and it doesn't work.

Personally, my problem with MM 9 and 10 is that they rely heavily on nostalgia. I wish they'd used more modern graphics and not have removed the Slide and Mega Buster abilities. Regarding MM 11, I'd say it's good, but the levels feel a bit long (for example, Blast Man and Willy's Castle). And I didn't enjoy MM X 7; I found it boring. The gameplay was slow and somewhat tedious. MMX 8 is a pain, but I love it.

I think that it was on purpose because it was many years after the last classic game.

But I do agree that they should've done a Sonic Mania style of making a magnificent 32-bits style of 2D instead of just doing the NES one.

Weirdly enough I never get motivation to return to Megaman x Street Fighter. The only classic MM I'm missing aside from that M&B sequel for WonderSwan that nobody played.

Congrats.

But please, you should hide your Steam name.

I'm confused by this lol, you can literally put your Steam ID in your profile. I get that privacy is a thing.

I guess I don't exist anymore.

I dreamt that someone had made "recompiled" PC versions of the Megaman Zero games where the sound/music quality was way higherand the games were in widescreen so that it wasn't as zoomed in. ::nervous-prinny

Been playing a bit of Megaman Powered Up since fake-kun reminded me it existed when talking about remakes, and it's honestly embarrassing how lousy I've become at these games, lol. Extra embarrassing when you get bodied by something so incredibly saccharine.

Guess that's what happens when you only play a single MMX game for like a decade.

This was me when I got back into Mega Man. I started playing MMX 1 and kept getting wrecked, but I kept at it until I got the jumping and dashing down pat. Just finished X4 and thinking about starting the Zero series.

This reminds me that I haven't (re)played a Mega Man platformer in a bit. Mega Man Star Force DX and some personal projects of mine ended up taking up most of my time.

BTW, this thread is now on its 69th page, which is a very important number for Mega Man.
