Live Action Kamen Rider fan thread

Never too late to start!

and Big Bad Beetleborgs as another localized Tokusatsu
Hell yeah! Beetleborgs aired in my country too, out of all other western tokusatsu besides Masked Rider/Power Rangers, this is probably my favorite.

Finished Agito last night
I had such a good time

Started Kamen Rider for the Cool suits transformations and heroics fights
Got invested on the Drama
Many such cases! U_U

Today I started Kuuga and a little Mirai Sentai Timerangers

Mirai Sentai Timerangers
Boy you're in for a ride, Timerangers is overshadowed by later Heisei era Sentai but the story is really good, nice pick.
I'd say it is one of very few series where it's Power Rangers counterpart is slightly bit better than the original.

Exactly the reason I picked it ::biggrin

Honestly I almost regret that Agito never had a little more episodes as there was a moment where it felt more like a normal world but with people awakening their power but I understood that a Toku has to fit a deadline...

At that point I almost felt like Ryuki looked more like guys in toy suits compared to the first two and I'm a bit worried that 555 would feel less "mature" (for a toku) but I still love the Battle Royale aspect of the first and the whole story about Orphnocs in the second.

And enjoy Kuuga and Timeranger, I still prefer Agito for nostalgia but the predecessor is a great revival for Kamen Rider. TimeRanger is my favourite next to Jetman.

The only thing that disappointed me with Agito is the fact I was expecting more LORE and explanation about the Unknown, as well as for the Tapestries that keep showing at the Opening

As well as more scenes with Agito, G3-X and Grills fighting together

The Toys suits comparison is very interesting because... they are technically getting toyed by Shiro Kanzaki

I read lore bits on wikis but I agree that they haven't had enough time expanding upon it...

The First Kamen Rider shows I ever watch were Kamen Rider Wizard.

Every since Wizard, I has been following the series ever since.

Saber is Goated and Touma is the best.

I finished Kuuga today, before the Month changed 👍
Wrestle seth rollins GIF

I'm considering reading the Kuuga Manga now (even if the translation is unfinished) because from what I read it's pretty crazy story that involves Agito's universe

Now I resume watching Heisei Era riders in the correct order
555/Faiz is going to be next

I liked
-Ichijo! He made a big impression with pulling out a Shotgun inside a church
-Protagonist has to train and learn about his powers! He gets to train to learn his Rider Kick!
-Kuuga's multiple forms
  • With Blue (Dragon form) being my fav
-Episode 50 Special! LMAO! And I took it serious about the Movie tease at the end!
- That episode were Kuuga goes completely Berserk on Episode
oddly cathartic

Mixed
- Two episodes for the monster of the week can feel anti climatic with Yusuke spending time thinking how to defeat them only to one shot them in 20 seconds.
- The Biker fighting scenes overstayed their welcome
- The final battle can be considered extremely anti-climatic
-Red form (Mighty) had most of the screentime

Didn't like
- Very slow pacing, even slower than Agito's! I found myself wanting to watch more Time Rangers because of that. Some repetitive things too! (Kuuga what if you turn evil?)
- AGAIN Didn't got lore for the Unknowns!? ::angrygenjin
- Ultimate Form we barely knew ya

Forgot to mention that I resumed watching Revice with my friend online (Hyperbeam's save slot for the tabs broke again and we lost progress!

after episode 10 the pacing of the series REALLY Improved!

But I have issues with the sound design of the show!
Sound effects during transformations override the music that is playing and it creates a cacophony I can't ignore
Too many special effects in general with the voice lines

This take from Reddit amused me

Marked for spoilers

That's my gripe about modern KR in general.

I am a bit tired of the screaming belts (sure, they're toys but still).

The Ryuki and Faiz belt doing a formal voice was something I liked, they still acted as good toys while being technically tools made by professionals ("Sword Vento" and "Standing By" are still cool to hear today). Geats' belt felt like these old ones.

It's funny because this final battle is refreshing compared to most over the top shonen-esque final battles in tokus you almost always see.

It's also a fight that has a deeper meaning and I think that it represented Godai's struggle to not have the armor overcome his mind as N-Daguba-Zeba is trying to do so.

As for the slow pacing I think it's because the first two seasons are more like dramas than tokus. I can understand that some episodes felt slower but I also think that adults could stand it better than kids who watched for the action.

Nowadays I feel like everything has to be over stimulating for the brain.

I do agree that Mighty/Red has been used for too long but then again the base form is expected to be seen most of the time compared to others and as the show demonstrated the issues with the other forms: Blue is weaker despite the fast speed, Green is only effective against long distance foes and Silver/Purple is meant for defence rather than attacking with so that explains why the red one is the most versatile and useful most of the time.

I really want to give Revice a fair watch but its' creating a huge sensory overlord to me
  • LOUD Epic Music Playing
  • Transform Buckle announce
  • Sound Effects
  • Character(s) talking on top of that in some scenes
  • Protagonist swapping Vistamps creating Microphone spam during battle
Geats had way better Volume and Sound balance! With the music not being to loud or straight up pausing for the announcer

Dual On! Get ready for 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕤𝕥 & 𝕄𝕒𝕘𝕟𝕦𝕞!

especially on the Administrator's buckles on Geats

Really loved the announcer on Ryuki So i'm looking forward for Fazi now

I definitely appreciate the design choice for the final scene to play out and what is portraying
As having two sides of the same coin having a mirror match

It's about the journey and not the destination, I didn't really need epic final battle flare
and a lot of characters showed concerned through the series that Kuuga's power will may turn him evil

But man... The show building up how powerful Daguva is! With Gurongi trying to reach higher ranks with their Ritual game to challenge him... does feel anti-climatic I don't hate it! And I will take it over the Final Boss having over 5 different final forms! 😅

There was, in fact, not going to be a movie 😭

I'm a bit of a new arrival to the Kamen Rider fanbase. Right now I'm flip flopping between Kuuga and Ryuki. I caught an episode of Faiz on youtube and I want to watch the rest because cyborg zombies as the monsters sound really interesting. Also I bought the shout! tv Blu-ray of Kuuga, but for some reason none of the Gurongi scenes have subtitles. So they're just speaking gibberish.

I'm watching Kamen Rider Gavv and let me say

KAMEN RIDER GAVV IS CRAZY GOOD EVERY WEEK. Hanto's actor (Yusuke Hino) is incredible, his breakdown in episode 28 gave me goosebumps.

I even got Hanto's ring

Wanna buy Gavv and Bitter Gavv SHFiguarts but I'm broke =(

Also keeping up with Gavv weekly! Came for the allure of a tokusatsu where the gimmick was "yummy sweets and treats" and I stayed for a rip-roaring time.

I love how Gavv is "here, have some very goofy looking forms" and then its story deals with some very dark subjects

Mafia? Drug cartel? Fratricide? Unethical experiments? Killing a mother in front of her son? Yeah, we got it all

I'm on episode 40 so far of 555/Faiz
It's pretty neat they use the greek letter Φ like that as a Motif!
As a Greek, I approve 👍

HOLY SHIT! IS THAT A MFING RYUKI REFERENCE.meme 😱

it's so good! Simple but effect

They all use Flip Phones and I love it!
Not to mention the idea of using a Camera as a Fist Cuff is pretty neat

I hated him so much. I wanted to see him die so badly to be honest but he got saved lol.
If you hate him so much, Wait until you watch Faiz to experience the ultimate Bastard!

Faiz has the best device sound in my opinion.
It's so simple yet so gooood.
It's talking without screaming. It is a good toy while also feeling like a professional device.

I kinda miss flip phones now.

Henshin sounds then: "Standing by."
Henshin sounds now: a whole deathgrips album

I really miss when technology was allowed to be creative and Colourful instead of everything looking the same White and Black now

The more I watch Revice, the more I see the formula this meme! . . . Oh God?

To add, Buffa being the villain/antagonist was the worst part of Geats for me! It dragged for too long and overstayed its welcome

I'm wondering who made the old belt sound. Same with Super Sentai henshins.

Maybe with the synths of the era.

I like Geats' as a modern one:

You can blame Apple for standardising the simplified black slab that Smartphones are nowadays and the fall of Nokia (even with the weirdest designs like the Taco N-Gage). Please check "When phones were fun" on Youtube.

Z-flips are a nice clamshell but still expensive as hell.
