Since Dungeon Siege lets you do this, I thought it'd be fun to ask you all which main characters you'd like to expell from your party in any given game.

I find most RPG/JRPG main characters to be insufferable, so I'd probably leave a trail of dead bodies in my wake as I tackle them xD

Final Fantasy VII without Cloud would probably be a top pick for me, though.

You?

I'm a main character guy, heck, Cyclops is my favourite member of the X-Men.
Fighting evil isn't the hard part, deciding to fight evil is. So many people will join an enterprise when it looks successful, only a real hero begins something that nobody wants to touch.
So I always respect the character who appeared first and got the ball rolling, even if their personality isn't ideal.

I usually tends to like main character of games that i played. It's only a few MC's from lesser know RPGs, that i would disband if it could be possible. So, disbanding main characters from games isn't something that i really want.

I can't really make an example, but I love when rpgs give you many party members and you can freely choose without being forced with one of them (except if it's for a part of the plot, like in FF13, when you are forced with two of them, then two others, and so on, I'm okay with that, but in the end you can put whoever you want).

When I first try ffx, I didn't really like Tidus. As many other players I didn't like the tone of his voice or the way he was dressed, with those ragged shorts. Then there was the fact that right from the start of the game, he was already a celebrity in a somewhat silly underwater sport, which I later learned to appreciate. I’m not sure who I’d put in his place on the party; the elderly Auron had class to spare, but he would have completely changed the game as we know it. It’s not an easy question...

Who ever the Point of View character of "The Last Remnant" was.
He was already an idiot from the opening scenes but, after the tutorial cave, my hatred was cemented when he walks straight up to the army leader and begins touching him even after being warned off by the body guards.

FFVII Remake. Could. Tell him to fuck off. Make Barrett or Tifa the MC.

Could gets killed by Sephiroth.

Barrett :"Yall gotta be careful now!"
Aerith: "You wouldn't want me to get killed do you?"
4th wall breaking moment, Aerith, Tifa, Barrett and Red XIII turn their heads and look at the camera.

Edge in Star Ocean 4 immediately comes to mind — he is absolutely useless. I just pretend Reimi is my main character the whole game and don’t control him in battle unless I have to.

Yuna in FFX. I swear that woman would ‘selflessly’ throw herself into a spike pit in front the party when it could be easily walked around, thereby dragging everyone ELSE into the damn pit. Lulu should have been the lead. >:(

the only main character ive not liked that much would be rex from xenoblade 2 and its mainly his voice, honestly the playable cast all around in that game is average at best to insufferable at worst (if i hear "meh-meh" one more time i swear)

now if we are talking strictly gameplay, fe6 would be so much easier if you could just bench roy he is such a liability for 90% of the game

Locke from FFVI. *inhales*

It feels like he’s always stepping out in front of Terra and talking like he did the things Terra actually did.

At the beginning the moogles would have helped Terra even without Locke (he made it like 100 feet)

He keeps telling the women to get back in fights or saying “I’ll protect you!” stuff even though they’re an Esper that blows up whole cities and a Majitek general (they really don’t need protecting)

he keeps asking Celes to trust him but instantly believes Kefka instead of her at the majitek facility (for a moment at least)

his steal skill is useless unless there’s a cheesy item the enemy has to farm (which the devs put there so steal wasn’t useless.)

the only thing good about him was healing Rachel but even that felt to me like she died just to clear his conscience and give him a clean slate.

And laphicet from Tales of Berseria he makes no sense, really any of these old fashioned self insert characters really stick out in bad ways in good stories, especially when they’re not the protag but still try to act like they are.

Would absolutely loved to have had an extra slot in Suikoden 1&2. So many great characters you barely get to use. It was even more frustrating because there was a thing for guest characters already, so why not be able to move the MC there?

I still don't like Tidus, and he was going to be my answer before I saw you beat me to it. That voice actor is great as Ratchet, but insufferable as Tidus. Annoying voice, annoying personality, annoying sport, annoying daddy issues... all around just not a likeable character. Easily my least favorite playable character in any Final Fantasy.

So Far I don't have a dislike protagonist maybe the Suikoden Ds protagonist of how loud and obnoxious this guy is.

Final Fantasy IX, give Vivi the main protagonist role and the game's story is x900% more interesting already. I cannot stand Zidane.
