I tried to play fallout 1

the first two fallout games are products of their time. They're more strategy-rpgs than 3 onwards, with a primitive interface. They can still be worth playing if you take the time to learn the ins and outs.

My take is to instead of playing 1 or 3, start the series on TTW instead at Capital Wasteland so you get to experience the birthday party.

The BEST place to level up in the entire game. Be happy and enjoy. (y)
Yeah, I'm not in a hurry to let the gunrunners move in. I take 2 deathclaws at a time.

I recommend some energy weapons and power suits from military bases. Search them out.

I hope you at least stuck at it long enough to slip a lit bundle of dynamite into someones pockets, or to blackmail a street vendor over his secret meat source for some free cash.
They didn't make it out of the Vault cave bro. Probably died to rats...
Mouse clicking and spacebar was too hard for them. They never would figure out how to pickpocket.

just punch rats for half an hour, it might work

the controls were too confusing though so I uninstalled 😭
Honestly the controls are actually simple, but god, everything is so slow and cumbersome. I'll just say that all the controls you need are in those buttons in the bar down in the bottom bar. To move you click where to move, to attack you click your weapon and select target, if you click the weapon you automatically enter the fighting mode, there's a button that literally says "end battle" or something like that that takes you out of that mode (as long as you are in immediate danger), there's a button in a corner of the weapons that make you change weapons, to interact with objects and people you... click on them. To use skills you open the skilldex (in the button that says "skilldex") and click the skill and in what or who you want to use it if relevant. Annoying and slow, yeah, but complicated? Not really.

I don't know which version you are playing. but I recommend buying all classic PC games from GOG.com. They provide compatibility for modern operating systems out of the box/emulation for DOS games.
I got mine from the pirated gog site

I'm not trying to be mean, but I suspect OP isn't the reading type. Even though the Fallout manual is one of the funniest manuals ever written and should be appreciated by every fallout fan.
I only read what I'm interested in.

Just go straight to Fallout 2 it's the best in the series. Yes, way better than Fallout 3 or 4 or 76.

You'll still struggle with the "controls" as you cant be bothered to read a manual, but at least you could say you tried to play the *best* Fallout game and uninstalled it before going back to Pokemon. XD
I don't play pokemon? Idk why you'd assume that. you could of just stalked my steam game library and ripped me a new one for games I actually play

If you are concerned about wasting time, spending it on a gaming forum is the wrong choice. lmao.
being on a gaming forum won't make me mad, playing a ancient game will. I'm not gonna have another max payne 1 moment again where I quicksave and get caught in a death loop. Especially if the controls are wonky

It's not like college-mandated reading, it's just the basics on the game, after that it's smooth sailing, at least according to my friends.
I didn't say it would be hard to read, I just don't want to because I like going into games blind. I beat every yakuza ps2 and ps3 game only using walkthroughs twice

Anyway, I'm gonna turn off pings for this thread

It's not a surprise that older games are filtering newbies whereas the latest entries are so much watered down to appeal to the broadest audience.

It reminds me of that meme:
