I tried to play fallout 1

Start with the Fast Shot trait; that should get rid of most of the complexity for you. Beyond that, bump up Agility to 9 (8 if you choose Gifted, which you should), and the rest in whatever you think is good. Right click to change the cursor from move to talk (or attack, if in combat), and I think that's all you need to know? You certainly don't need a manual; I never used one when I played.

It's not a great game, though. It's the kind of thing you play for historical significance, not quality. The second is supposedly better, if you want to give it another shot.

I didnt have a problem with the controls, which are easy to understand since you play the game mostly with mouse. Aside that you'll spend most of your time using only the I and ESC keys.

What i had a problem were the bugs, i didnt know about the unofficial patch at the time and because of that i quit the game after some time in Junktown (the most bugged place in the game and slow). After i found the unofficial patch i played it till the end. I used 1.3.3 version (found out 1.3.4 later....) and i didnt want to try out of fear it would ruin my savegames. Right now the TeamX patch is at 1.3.5 version.

So great to see this project is still alive after all those years.

30 years and people are still modding and patching it, and documentaries too...

This is a funny thread lmao, I’d say something about not choosing to read the manual but ngl that’s based.

Anyway please choose not to play it so you can piss more people off. /j

I don't blame you, the game is unintuitive for a first timer. And that's coming from a classic fallout 2 fan. but the vibes this game gives off, is immaculate. Heck, i finished my first run with my phone using DOSBox. Give it another shot and save often. *hushed* or watch a story synopsis ::holdup

I don't know which version you are playing. but I recommend buying all classic PC games from GOG.com. They provide compatibility for modern operating systems out of the box/emulation for DOS games.

There isn't too much to the controls. Just give the manual a quick scan and you'll be on in no-time. It's the best Fallout still and I think it kinda isn't even close, so I urge you to try again!

Note: after looking at this the manual is over 100 pages! It's a fun read to skim through, but just try both left and right clicking on your different buttons. There isn't a ton to to the controls, they can just interact in complex ways.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I suspect OP isn't the reading type. Even though the Fallout manual is one of the funniest manuals ever written and should be appreciated by every fallout fan.

wanting to play a text heavy role playing game but refuses to read 1 page of instructions, ain't that a bit [insert word here]

It's insanely good. There is 0 shame in having a guide open as you play. That's what I did.

GOG used to distribute it for free back in the days.

I really regret having spent money on this platform. They are so greedy now. They must be inspired by retrogaming scalpers.

I don't wanna read how to play a video game while im stuck in school. That's just a waste of my free time.
It's not like college-mandated reading, it's just the basics on the game, after that it's smooth sailing, at least according to my friends.

Yikes, kiddo. Its reading a couple of pages, not dental surgery. The manual is actually a funny read.

Yeah but if they don't wanna they don't wanna lol, idk why people are getting so worked up when you can just unwatch or ignore the thread.

Also just say the word Mods don’t care lol

I guess the most important question for OP is why do you even want to play Fallout 1 in the first place? Its not a game for the anti-reading crowd.

I'm still stuck on the mother deathclaw outside Gunrunners ::angrygenjin

You just make a meme build 10 luck+ Odd Eye perk. It can be really fun when every enemy around falls victim of bad luck.

I've only scrolled through the comments thus far on that video and my soul hurts. I'm bracing myself to watch this, because I already know its message to be true.

Anyway, I cannot recommend the classic Fallouts for casual play, especially on a phone during school hours. But pop that sucker into a proper PC when you can. There was no Fallout like the original, and it's my favorite of the series.

Dont bother with the comments. It's just a documentary about the fall of Interplay...

Sincerely I don't mean to be rude in saying this but that's pretty ironic when this thread is mostly people saying you should give it a fair chance and you shutting them down. If you don't like the game nor want to bother trying that's ok, but from what I can tell this site is about appreciating the classics and you aren't going to find many people to validate your half-baked take
