I'll even go further by saying: "it's just a stupid video game, I don't need to feel bad for non-existent people I've killed in it". the "no Russian" mission from Modern Warfare 2 was for shock value yet it's obvious that it's still a video game, not a documentary about terrorism groups killing civilians. Call of Duty is always about "shoot the enemy".

If someone comes in and say that "acktyually the demons in Doom are the victims in the story because it was Hayden and the UAC who purposefully invaded Hell to suck the Argent Energy out of it while they weren't consenting to." I'd just say "What? Demons are no victims. You just have to kill them, that's all".

Even Undertale is also this to a lesser extent when most RPGs are clearly stating that the monsters you're fighting in them are enemies that want harm to humans.

It goes back to the tired trope of "humans are the real monsters in this story".

TBF Monsters was trapped for something the humans only SPECULATED monsters would do, and the SOULS that felt before Frisk has no reason to believe Frisk is different

Now True Pacifist gives you a point there, since certain character that did something truly horrible to monsters isn't even judged by Frisk, at worst they are "fired" at a point that doesn't matter anymore and another character merely scoffs treying to kill you

That said at least in Undertale at least you really have to go your way being a dick for the game to recriminate you, but still you are right in regards of Undertale being clumsy with its pacifism themes

I don't want to sound rude but that's a tiny bit of your fault for not making savestates.

Yes, normally an emulator isn't supposed to crash like that (outside of intentionally making glitches) yet there's always a saying about trying to save as often as possible when playing a RPG.
Lmfao yeah man I did admit to that I have self awareness. I never said it was a bad game I just said I didn’t like my experience with it

I genuinely can't play a whole lot of modern games because the text is too small 😭 It's such a small thing but it makes a world of difference!

Subversion of expectations from an indie game can be fine.

But when subversion becomes the norm it ceases to be one.

Yooka-Laylee wasn't that bad it's just that people don't know what the hell they want.

The controls worked fine, the levels were gorgeous, the weird burbling noises were a thing in the Banjo series that people wanted YL to emulate in the first place, and while the powerups weren't flashy they weren't bad either. The only thing I can really agree on with commentary about the game is that exiting worlds to expand them is slightly annoying as you can't 100% a world first run but the game was fine people just thought they wanted a new collect-a-thon platformer but when they got one they crashed out.
I remembered when I first played Yooka-Laylee, I deliberately avoided any reviews or media discussing it as I did not ant my opinion to be influenced by anyone and to avoid any spoilers. After I finished it, I was taken aback by the amount of complaining about it. While I still preferred the N64 Banjo titles over it, I overall found it mostly enjoyable. Some of the complaints reviewers had were just baffling. "Why the stupid gibberish! Should be voice acted!" You know what series this is mean to be a spiritual successor to, right? The gibberish is a big part of the Banjo series identity and I found it charming. "Camera is so bad!" I swear modern game reviewers are hopeless when it comes to 3D platformers, controlling the camera as you are wandering these spaces just comes a second nature when you play as many of these games as I do. There are games both old and new that have way bigger camera issues than YL does. The most baffling was one reviewer saying that using a hub area to access the game's worlds was outdated. What a bizarre statement, reminds me of reviewers during the 5th gen declaring that 2D gaming is dead and marking games down deliberately if they were not 3D. How are hub worlds outdated? Not all 3D games need to be open world for god's sake.

The nice thing is that the biggest complaints I did have about Yooka-Laylee seem to be getting adressed in the remake so I hope this game gets a second chance. Just going through levels and saying to myself "just one more Pagie before I finish" really did capture the feeling of getting lost in the world that the 3D platformers of my youth were so good at doing. The way some people talked about it, you swear they were playing Bubsy 3D, just absolutely overblown reaction.

This is kind of how I felt about Mighty No.9
I avoided reviews and I genuinely enjoyed it. Its not a masterpiece or anything but it was a solid fun MegaMan-style game, I thought.
I was shocked at how much negativity it received.

People on the internet LOVE to hate things. ::cirnoshrug

I don’t think either of those games deserve the hate, and I never found them to be trash fire, but I found them a bit bland on first impressions and didn’t feel compelled to see the journey till the end, despite decently enjoying their source of inspiration. I am however pretty happy you got something out of it, I think there’s value to that so more power to you for sure (a phrase I’m somewhat cautious with using due to its patronizing connotations but uhhh I pinky promise that’s not the intent here)

I don't believe that video games should take a long time to make

nowadays every game takes 10+ years of development, and gamers think it is normal, even tell the devs to take their time

GTA San Andreas was made in 3 years and I don't think any game should require more time, devs nowadays just spend too much time on stuff that make the games WORSE like graphical fidelity

The Sonic fandom is overhated just bc of Chris chan, rule 34, and several bizarre fanfics

In fact some fans IMHO has kept the series afloat, like their ports of Android beign infinitely better than the Sega made ones, and i don't need to talk about Mania

and i don't need to talk about Mania
"Sonic Mania was made by fans" is just a myth (or atleast an oversimplification), bc the creators work at Sega years before the project even started

- I used to feel bad about Christine for being an Internet punching bag until... "incidents" that I won't disclose there happened, this person is nefarious and her autism should not be a valid excuse (plenty don't do what she has done). I think it went beyond Sonic as a whole but that's another can of worm I will never touch within a mile.

- No exceptions, you can literally say that for everything possible so it's not exclusive to that franchise (although Sega are still responsible for giving one of their characters a sultry voice).

- Fan fics can be fine but yeah, many can be bizarre or just plain bad like anywhere (Mary Sue came from Star Trek after all).

I'd still say that the Internet mocking the fanbase for the OCs like Coldsteel or recolors was just a trend like any others.

On the other hand some (really vocal) fans are just being tedious such as people insisting that "Sonic 2006 is a misunderstood masterpiece" or that "Sonic Mania was actually not that good" because the fanbase can never agree about something and change opinions like underwears. I still appreciate Sonic Colours for what it is but people suddenly saying it's bad because it didn't try to be grand nor epic is just being silly...

Yoshi's island DS wasnt that bad

Every Seiken Densetsu and Star Ocean are good in their own way.

Pretty sure most people will disagree on a take like this lmao

We came to a point where people saying "[insert popular game that is liked by a lot in the fanbase] is actually mid" is so much more commonplace than people saying "[insert hated/less popular game in a series] is actually not bad/pretty good and deserves some recognition".

I got one of those takes, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity is actually one of the best pokemon games of all time and all the reasons people don't like it were superficial surface reasons.

great story and characters with classic mystery dungeon gameplay, truly underrated and overhated
