To get this back on hot takes:
Resident Evil 3 Remake I will take any day over the original and all of the tank control games. That includes
OG Resident Evil 4. I am not excusing the cutting of content, and the removal of Mad Jackal Mercenaries. At the same time OG RE3 has a lot of problems. I hate the randomized puzzle solutions, the clock tower is just padding to a Spencer Mansion moment, dodging sucked, and I hate the giant worm boss. Removing all of those made a much better paced game, and boss fights with Nemesis are way more fun and engaging.
I highly doubt this is much of a hot take nowadays, but
Star vs. The Forces of Evil had writing on the wall of seasonal rot since the end of the second season. When the original writer left to work on other shows for a different network, it was already tumbling down. The forced and predictable romance, most of the main cast becoming unlikable or unsympathetic and out of character jerks, bringing characters that didn't need to be in the third or fourth season, and should have just been left alone, and a really bad ending.
Hekapoo sucks as a character, and there's nothing redeeming up about her. Not even arguably. It's kind of hard to feel anything for her, and little respect when she's part of an ancient conspiracy that's been using and abusing systemic racism on people. The only reason why she still has fans, is because most people simp for her. Yeah, semi chubby hot looking demon chick, but I like my animated ladies and guys to have some class.
It's been argued she's not supposed to be seen as that sympathetic (Star hates her, yet Marco & Hekapoo got mutual respect, but I don't buy it for a second), but it still doesn't change the fact Hekapoo does not do much to help way afterward. The best she does, is at the end where she opens a portal for the cast members to take on the final big bad, while she waste away at a bar knowing all the magical disappear when the villain is defeated. Screw you. You and your little cabal of conspirators caused all this mess to happen in the first place! Own up to your mistakes and actually fix them! Even if it costs you your existence.
I have no interests in ever watching
Stranger Things. Relies way too much on nostalgia baiting for a decade I was barely born in.
Fear Street Netflix Trilogy is the best slasher film in a long time, and no other slasher film or franchise tops it in this decade.
Isaac Florentine is one of the best action directors a our generation, and I do not want Hollywood swooping him up. He's not an expert storyteller, but he knows how to keep it simple and straight to the point. Florentine has done well successfully, and I would never want him to get worse quality work, but if he wants to move up I don't blame him. But I prefer he stay in the straight to DVD or streaming market. Preferably the former. That way his vision won't ever be compromised or barely messed with by studio interference.
I still hate
Avatar (2009) and have no interests in any of the sequels.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance: My feelings are the same as I saw it back in 2011. A decent movie that is fun and slightly better than the original. This film definitely has the best looking Ghost Rider! The charcoal black burning skull, the bubbling/melting leather jacket. Despite being on a lower budge,t the effects are amazing for what they were given. While color is slightly muted to given an burning ash type look, it is not to the obnoxious degree like
Death Race or many films that tried to copy the "realistic" grim, gritty, or apocalypse to absurdity. Thankfully, there is still a lot of color, so it not overbearing or distracting. I do find it odd that they went with a soft-reboot/sorta sequel. It's implied the first film did happen, but small things are changed or rewritten. Mephisto is called Roarke now for example. This was 4 years after the original, so I kinda get it, but they should have made a sequel sooner.
SoV is basically Johnny Blaze regretting his choice to keep The Rider as he can't control it anymore and his hiding out in Eastern Europe. Specifically Turkey. While a mother (Nadya) and her son (Danny) are being hunted down, because she is the Devil's baby mama and he wants Danny to transfer his soul and get a new body. Erasing Danny from existence. Blaze, Nadya and Danny meet up and it basically becomes lite
Terminator 2. Edris Elba is in it too and plays as a bad ass monk named Moreau.
Sucks his character dies, but goes out like a bad ass. Give it watch; you will be entertained.
