I'm sorry, and I understand. I often loath living in such a spiteful world too. Know that there are people that love and support you no matter what.

I know this is a lame reply, but in forums the best thing to do really is to simply not feed the trolls and report shitty behavior.

I... don't really have any other characters to add, sadly. But, thank you all for contributing to this thread. And yeah, people have different beliefs and such here, but I'm glad most of us can get along. Most of us.

Atlus unfortunately has a terrible history with transgender characters, both the Persona 2 Duology and Persona 3 has transphobic NPCs.

At least in Catherine you can chalk it up to friendly banter or whatever. Obviously doesn't go for everyone but friends give each other shit a lot irl and in Catherine a lot of the banter with her felt natural. Kind of some dickish comments here and there but nothing awful. Well, until the reveal she was trans. Then suddenly it frames their comments towards her in a new light. Saying "i'd be more convinced if a woman told me that" to your cis female friend is a bit of a dick move, but on par with the stuff friends do. Doing it to your trans female friend is just... rough for everyone watching.

But in all honesty I don't think the guys are intentionally written to be transphobic. The common consensus in Japan during that time period as far as I can remember is "once you transition, you are whatever you say you are" and that seems to be the mindset the characters in the game have. Outside of their jokes, everyone refers to her with feminine pronouns, uses her new name and generally gets along with her. Doesn't exactly solve the other transphobic stuff Atlus has done but I don't think Erica was written with genuine malice in mind.

I really don't think that's necessary. It's only a small amount of people and way more are supportive. These types of people love to goad people into flipping out and want this behaviour because it means they won, like Anti said.

I have never understood giving anyone trouble for feeling like they are someone they aren't. I get it; I just don't understand hating someone who feels that they don't match the exterior of who they believe they are on the inside.

And no, absolutely, I will not role-play as G.L.a.D.O.S. in this context. I respect people who have to deal with hate every day, and I refuse to be a snarky, sarcastic jerk about it. I can understand if someone is harming children or doing something illegal, but someone who is just trying to live in a way that feels comfortable to them deserves to be accepted. It's unacceptable to treat them otherwise.

My respect and unwavering heartfelt love go out to anyone and everyone who has to deal with this on a daily basis.

I don't think you need to. Apart from the three or so trolls it's been a good time. Just try and ignore them (or straight up put them on ignore) and focus on the fun stuff instead.
