Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed to be $80

...2. I bet the game will have watered down humour in comparison to the previous installments.
What makes you think that? I think it may have slightly watered down humour compared to GTA V, but that's only because GTA V's story is filled with some of the most viciously dark and biting satire on western culture there is in gaming. xD

Then again, I hear this is the first Rockstar project not to have Dan Houser as the Lead Writer, so maybe it'll be considerably more tame.

With or Without him, once real life gets so absurd, there's really not much you can parody anymore nor exaggerate when it comes to the USA. Even then I wasn't that enamored with V's writing. There were parts that made me laugh. Or give me the appropriate reaction, but overall, I really didn't find myself caring much.

I'd love to see them do one in the Middle East with locations like Saudi, UAE, Qatar, etc. There's sooo much material, but I wouldn't want Rockstar to get Charlie Hebdo'd so it'll likely never happen. GTA desperately needs some new settings, though. Hopefully we'll get one in the UK next.

Locking entry to in-game stores behind a paywall? That's fucked up and incredibly scummy.

Yeah i agree, they probably had those in-game assets done ages ago too for all we know, ultra scummy.

You answered your question on your own::cirnoshrug, not to mention that Rockstar and other companies we once grew up with and loved (at least at a certain point until they kept buying and shutting down smaller studios.. I'M LOOKING AT YOU EA::sonic-waiting) aren't the same as they used to be. Regardless of anyone's personal beliefs, not having the original writers anymore is a MAJOR RED FLAG. Rockstar up until now used to be the black sheep of the gaming industry, the company that was always on the news for being "too edgy and violent". I'm not that confident if the new team will be able to execute the same formula as before. Just look what happened with Saint's Row.::nervous-prinny

News have spread that GTA 6 will cut on punching down humour, like with easy targets for deprecating humour, and on swearing.

A further sign this probably going to happen is that GTA V was censored a couple years ago on last gen consoles.

Without going into details this fella is right, there was a huge controversy when the entire point of the franchise is to make fun of every group as much as possible, just like in South Park or The Simpsons, but certain folks didn't like it.

since ps1 era that I never liked this series. and there is another reason why.

How big will the map be? How many side activities, vehicles and weapons will be available?

Even if the story is meh those are the second most important things about a crime game.

With Dan Houser long gone, and we know he was the guy who gave the series that wicked sense of (dark) humor, I predict this is going to be one massive flop on release.

I don't see a trace of any humor in ANY of the assets we've seen so far. Screenshots, trailer, etc. It looks like Vice City with all the magic sauce stripped out of it.

Dan was the lead writer and creative director on all the previous GTA games - lose him and, while I could be wrong, I suspect the very thing that made GTA so good just won't be there this time around. It will be a generic 'action' game with little or no soul.

I'd love it to succeed and be a worthy sequel to 5 - but something tells me it won't be and may well crash hard.

It could affect the entire video game industry?
No

It will affect the entire video game industry!!

::sadkirby

Could be another Atari E.T. moment?

Only this time it will be 1 million empty plastic boxes with paper codes inside buried deep in the Nevada desert. At least you could (in theory) play E.T. :)

Have fun waiting another decade and a half just to find out. I already have much better games in mind and that holds my interests.

A majority of sandbox is pretty much dead to me outside of a few exceptions. I don't even want to go back and play the old crime sandbox games.

I would love to see some fresh areas but I feel that fans want to see "not-America"... One set in Canada would be a turnoff probably.

::handshake That's what I speculate too.
Don't forget that they may use AI. I've almost completely lost my faith in this industry with all the AI stuff just look at the recent Crazy Taxi remake by Sega in which they don't even want to say directly in which aspects of the game they used AI.. blehh ::sickening

I don't think so.

It will have a completely different impact.

GTA 6 will be a smash hit, and it will mark a turning point.

The physical format, which was already on its last legs, will be finished.

The physical format isn't on its last legs. THEY KILLED IT::lurking. Consumers still want to own what they buy. The real question is, what should the consumer do to preserve it?

Yes, most of us prefer digital files for convenience sake but IF given the option I'm fairly certain that plenty of people would still buy physical media. Just look at the record sales.

If you grew up in the 2000's or even earlier the amount of content overall was much more significant. You had artworks, tutorials, little facts about the characters etc.

Now big conglomerates whine about "cutting costs" by removing physical media and... jacking up the prices on digital releases and putting features that were considered essential behind a PAYWALL. ::scrooge-greed

Now there are game discs who don't even contain the entire game, it's either a chunk of it or it's just part of authentication. They want us to be pushed into "convenient" game subscriptions which are the epitome of not actually owning anything. ::warcraft-skeleton

If you think that buying games on a digital storefront is bad for example, game subscriptions is the same problem but on steroids.::sadkirby

I too don't think this will be a flop just because some writers left, there's too much riding on it and R* clearly wish to also stretch out a long-term plan for this thing with further support of GTA online, onboarding and the first impressions impact will be the start on launch.

This is the biggest release of last 20 years, there's no way it will flop. It will disappoint some fans, sure, but no way it will flop.

The problem is that Dan Houser wasn't just 'any' writer. He supervised all the previous games - he was the lead creative director. It was his singular vision that held the team together and made the games great.

Take him away and what do we have left?
