Games you bought a whole system for?

I've never bought a system for a specific game, not even close..
But I do remember reading about how tens of thousands of people bought a PS2 back in the day because it was the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time..
Similarly, the fact that the PS3 was also a Blu-ray player is the main reason why most people have never heard of 'HD DVD's..

Super Smash Brothas
MAYLAAAAAAAYYYYYYY

  • PS1 - Tekken 3 and Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3.
  • PS2 - The Bouncer and MGS2.
  • GC - Lugi's Mansion, SB Melee, and Eternal Darkness.
  • GBA - Castlevania Circle of the Moon, and Super Mario Bros. 2.
  • 360 - FEAR and Condemned.
  • Wii - Mario Galaxy, House of the Dead 2&3 Returns, and No More Heroes.
  • PSP - Lumines and Darkstalkers
  • DS - Contra 4
  • 3DS - Code of Princess
  • WiiU - Bayonetta 2 and DK Tropical Freeze.
  • PS4 - Oneechanbara Z2 Chaos. No really.
  • Switch - Bayonetta 2 and Astral Chain.
  • PS5 - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Dead Space Remake.

Ace Combat 6: The Fires of Liberation for the Xbox 360. True aces never skip a numbered instalment.

Tokyo Jungle for the PlayStation 3.
No I'm not joking and that game is absolutely worth the hardware investment.

Marathon/Myth for OSX/The I-Mac G3

Xbox 360 - Halo 3
PS3 - MGS4
PS4 - Bloodborne
Switch - Breath of the Wild
3DS - Kid Icarus Uprising

The only reason I ever upgraded from an XP era PC was to play games that wouldn't run on my then-current rig ::cirnoshrug

Mario Kart 8, Wii U. I guess Last Guardian for PS4. Mario Kart Double Dash!! for GameCube. Virtue's Last Reward for 3DS. Tales of Vesperia for Xbox 360. Aside that my console acquisitions have been more opportunistic and the games I would play on them came second, or it was an old console I was thinking bunch of games about, which is true for most other consoles, but these are games I remember having "I WANT THAT" reaction to.

3D Dot Game Heroes and Demons' Souls convinced me to get a PS3.

Bloodborne almost sold me on a PS4 but there was nothing else to compel me.

Me and my brother saved up any money we could get together at the time through birthdays, Christmases etc. to buy a PS3 to play Little Big Planet and MGS4. I bought a Wii U for Bayonetta 2 and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I got a PS4 for Bloodborne and MGSV (Yes, I know it was on Xbox as well, but I had already decided I'd be moving on from Xbox after the 360 anyway after the disaster the Xbone announcement was, and how turned out to be in general lol).

The Gameboy Color I bought to play Pokemon.
PS2 I bought to play the amazing DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2.
The Xbox 360 I bought it first time to play Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and the recently to play the og Dead Space.
The DS I bought it to play Hotel Dusk: Room 215.
The PS3 I bought it to play Heavenly Sword and the Uncharted franchise.
The Dreamcast I bought to play Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur and Ready to Rumble.
And finally the Switch Light I bought to play the latest Binding of Isaac iteration on the go.

I never regretted any of these purchases... Well maybe the Game Boy Color as the games, outside Pokemon, were pretty shitty in general for me.

I also bought other consoles, but not to play specifically one game or another. More to enjoy the whole library, like the PSP and the Vita.

I usually buy my consoles as part of a bundle but those are more "nice to haves" than system sellers for me. Tho my gamecube bundle was so much value, I'd have to be an idiot not to get it over anything else.

But I guess the few games that really pushed me to get a console would have been

Virtual On with twin stick controller - I had played the game on a friends saturn with a standard controller and thought it was pretty decent but when I went on a family trip to Hong Kong and played it for the first time in the arcade, it all clicked! I didn't have a saturn at the time tho I was thinking about it so when I discovered that the far east had a twin stick controller specifically for the saturn home port, I was sold!!!

Another game would have been Dead or Alive 3. I'm a big fan of the series and I adored DoA2 on the Dreamcast but I wasn't a fan of the Xbox when it was launched. It was a combination of the S design controllers and the translucent green colour that softened my stance on it and DoA3 was the game that basically tipped it over the edge.

Super cliché but Ridge Racer on PS1.
I had moved away from gaming quite a bit as I was becoming a teen towards the end of the SNES era and it all started to feel a bit childish for me at that time.
Went over to a friends place and he fired up Ridge Racer, I literally had tears in my eyes when I saw it running. Counted the days until my next birthday when I got a PS1 with Ridge Racer.
I was hooked again and forever.

Oh yeah. PS3, Catherine. Judge me.

Forgot GBC: Super Mario Bros Deluxe.
Pokemon Crystal.
But I got Warioland 2. And my disappointment turned into one of my all time favorite games, one I 100%:ed without help of internet no nothing but me just slapping away at that game.
And then next christmas I got pokemon crystal.
Also Pokemon Ruby for GBA. My first game on it was less memorable, if I could recall what it was exactly I would give it a go again, some GT Racing something.

I won't; it's great game on actual realistic relationships with death puzzles. Did you play the updated version that has another Catherine that's trans? I haven't either, but I was just curious.

I did buy it and play a playthrough of it. I forgot was the Qatherine character more of a petite character with "Something weird" since
She is alien? I Think that was it. It might be a nod to trans people but more with "Love is love" type of meme if you end up in her route, I did not since I had played Catherine a lot on PS3 so I gave full body thus far only one playthrough.
Though, Catherine already has Erica innit which is a pretty good trans character even if they make a little jive fun of the young boy character that fell for her. It is left in the air how their relationship went from there. You can even maybe emulate the vita version that got a translation patch based on the PS4 official translation. Best part that made me dosh up more was to get the best voice for Catherine in the new version.

I dunno about realistic especially given Catherine but it is a very fun anime drama, very stylish and surprisingly fun puzzler gamep- EDGE EDGE EDGE EDGE EDGE EDGE. It was nice to get to play the game with Japanese audio though during the age of no dual audios, with Vesperia it was a top tier dub still. Helps it was set in US as really most bothersome aspect in Persona games is the utterly Japanese setting and all the "kun" "senpai" in english.

But yeah, back then I was already mostly a PC gamer and happy whenever stuff like Sonic Generations got a PC port. But Catherine was like a hair on camel's back to me with all the console exclusive games I still wanted to play.

Also side note but reason I originally got another PS3, one that was fat and old enough to be modded was for then recently released Tales of Vesperia PS3 version translation. Ironically I never ended up finishing it, it was a replay after all, and now I have like three copies of definitive edition just because "actually yeah that one."

NES- Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3

SNES: Super Mario World,

N64- Mario 64

Genesis- Sonic The Hedgehog

Sega CD- Sonic CD

Dreamcast- Sonic Adventure

Gamecube- Super Smash Bros. Melee

Wii- Twilight Princess

Playstation- Crash Bandicoot

Gameboy Super Mario Land

DS: Mario 64 DS

GBA: Super Mario Advance

Mostly every Nintendo console that sold me was Mario based. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For me the most notable was seeing Sonic 1 on a big tv at the mall. Had NES at the time and Sonic was like nothing else.

My most recent ones are
PSP Go - Peace Walker
Switch - Zelda BOTW
PS4 Pro - Death Stranding

It's important to mention that they changed the character Catherine's best ending, now
with her going back in time and getting married with Vincent.
instead of being with him in Hell with the ecchi stuff. And the game has some censorship of the dialogue around Erika, because of course.

On the positive side, this version gives more context to Vincent and Katherine's relationship, with photos and cutscenes, painting her as less of a bitch, always on Vincent's case.

It's a toss between which version is best. I prefer the original though, as they grounded Catherine more, being less cartoonish as a character. And the addition of Qatherine is kind of superfluous to the story, except for the fact that you can pursue said character.

Yeah, that is why I would not count it as that, I just did play it and liked especially the Katherine stuff. I would if I answer honestly end up in Katherine normal end or so. Indeed the added stuff does feel added, Qatherine included. Apparently PVP is also very different and competitively better in original. I do have both games so it is whatever. I DID buy it from sale after a long while from it's release to give what enthusiasm I had for the rerelease hydration version. I did add in the DLC/Deluxe pack stuff because Rina Sato Catherine. I am OK not paying the full price for it versus collector's edition I bought of PS3 Catherine. Still have those goodies.
