Games that everyone hate but you love. Or vice versa

That was WHY he wanted to play double dragon specifically, (even tho he thought it was called "bad dudes"). because it has the 2 player one on one fighting mode. so we could take turns and play 2 at a time.

See, i didn't even really realize there was a 2 player mode, until all those kids came over.
it was actually really fun.

Some people seems to hate DMC 4 from what I can see, mostly because of the backtracking on the 2nd half of the game and how weak the enemies are.
I love this game tho, it's fun af and the fact that it's the DMC game with most playable characters of all is interesting at least.
Besides, Shall Never Surrender is a banger.
Whatever hate some of those people had, long died ago. A lot of the hate came towards the fact that it was no longer a PS3 exclusive because of the price point of the console at the time. The same thing happened to the other big Capcom and Square. Oh, so you had more than a few haters of Nero at the time, but I never hated the character once. I always felt he was a great addition to the franchise, and I loved his gameplay mix up. He was that perfect combination of 2000s anime protag combined Ichigo Kurasagi and Gene, The God Hand.

A lot of critics are fareweathered or didn't even bother reviewing Rushing Beat X. Even more than a few rawler, fans founded barely above mediocre or ok. Thee brawler fans wish for the game to get better and keep improving on updates. I don't love the game, but I like and admire RBZ for what it is, and what it's trying to be. It's not afraid to be goofy and campy. Even though the story goes heavy on the references to past games. This is a game clearly made by fans who care about not only this franchise, but past Jaleco titles as well. City Connection are those exact same Jaleco fans.

When it comes to both Sonic & Mega Man.
They got plenty of entries that are also overhated. I don’t even need to list em!

Legit surprised the NES port of Double Dragon 1 is seen as a bad one, it may not be as faithful or impressive graphically compared to the Arcade, but it still a solid, fun romp that moves way faster than the original Arcade one, that said 2's port is easly the better one

Double Draagon NES and Double Dragon Advance are pretty much more fun to play than the arcade original of I and II.
It's seen as bad due to what it removed, if i remember right it removed a stage or 2 and completely removed 2 player mode, game wise it was good but as a port it was considered inferior for those reasons if i remember right.
No stages were ever removed. They were expanded or added platforming sections. None of the platforming is good though.

oh double dragon advance is really good too. yeah. i dunno who said that double dragon for nes was bad (besides for my friend, who said it was "bad dudes", as i have already mentioned).

it was probably a youtuber

Probably some dumb AVGN clone or IRATE GAMER. They're all practically the same. Always has been. Except for HVGN, but he was already doing the opposite of AVGN and broke further and became his own thing has Stop Skeleton's From Fighting.

Agree on both

Revolutionary as it was, the OG Doule Dragon 1 was slow as mollases unless you somehow unearthed a PIRATE Romset to make it run fast, Meanwhile 1 adds new sections and a RPG-like move learnining system... in hindsight both were deem as weak spots

Advance meanwhile by comparision has the ability to play two player mode, removes the clumsy platforming and has lots of modern nooks and crannies, heck, it even includes the iconic Billy and Jimmy battle even in single player mode, IMHO the definitive version and a shame 2 and 3 never had that glowup
It's not. It reviewed and sold well at the time and is generally considered a good NES game from what I've seen. The platforming is the one thing some people tend to take issue with, but it's honestly not that bad. My main problem with it was that one level that loops forever until you find the right entrance.
I knew that, but i meant how surprisingly often it shows up on "Bad port" list videos, then again i see the comments defend it, so i guess it was me having a goldfish's reading comprehension

To make up for it, more than few enemies from II show up, or certain moves enemies did in the second game, but not the first, show up in Advance. For me, this the best compromise possible.

The first Onechanbara on PS2, I actually like the game for what it is, despite the limited moves and tech; there's a simplicity to it (get it?).
In comparison I find it hard to like the 2nd game despite it being the bigger game.
Larger levels just make traversal more of a chore and you really feel the damage sponginess of the enemies, that said it's got tech that I like going back for.

Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, a lot of people refer to this as the peak of the series, and I can see why.
But I can't help but like Fatal Shadows more, the levels and enemy placement feel better put together and well thought out making it more replayable in my opinion.

I was gonna play that, how's it like? I played the PS4 game and loved every minute of it, then went to play the PSP game but got stuck on level 2-2, the level just never ends...

As it seems, if I enable cheats once (wither used them or not) it corrupts the game save permanently and you cannot progress past 2-1, you need to completely erase your save in order to fix this, but the boss in 1-5 is a bit too difficult and since I can't read Japanese and afaik there is no English translation I dunno how to heal properly, it's a shame as the game is quite fun but the language barrier ruined it for me.

Onechanbara Special, the PSP one.
It's the only one in the series that uses a real time menu, circle (if I remember correctly) bring up this menu where you select items to use and can even change weapons this way (if I can remember correctly).

The PS2 games are more or less budget DMC clones, the first game simplifies the combat system that DMC introduces, no weapon switching (until the 3rd game on xbox360), you level up like it's an action RPG with distributable points to your stats.
Like DMC there is a secondary combo but it's timed and very strict with it's timing compaired to later games in the series.
You level up by collecting yellow orbs from dead enemies, the size of these orbs is tied to your current hit count.
Unlike DMC where you prioritize style over everything else, this takes a page from Ninja Gaiden where you stack up hit counts, rolling can extend this to keep the count on screen longer.
You might need this because unlike other action games, the 1st game doesn't have a long range attack, instead you have kicks and a suicide attack (equivalent to holy water in DMC).

This lower part might not be nesseary to say since you played the PS4 game, but I'll include it in my post anyway.. 😅

The twist in gameplay is that you also manage blood guages, one for your body and another for your weapon.
The more blood on your weapon the slower your attacks are and at full can get stuck in enemies.
The more enemies you kill with your sword, the more blood gets on your body, if you fill the guage you go berserk, stronger and faster but your health drains slowly and can kill you.
Kicks don't get blood on you as much but are weaker, finally suicide is tied to the circle button (only in the 1st game), it's like holy water in DMC but only affects nearby enemies that you see on screen. Suicide attacks consume health so watch out for that since it's too easy to trigger in the 1st game.

Overall the 1st game has a lot of issues, but there's a proof of concept for a good game inside it, if you can look past it's flaws.👌

I think lightning returns isn't so much hated as much as the entire 13 trilogy is hated because of lightning and the bad problems 13 and 13-2 had, so most either didn't play LR, or were too burned on the other 2 games to give the game a shot as just it's own game, we've had people defend bad games because of a series, the reverse also holds true.

Lightning Returns FFXIII is good, but it takes a special mindset to properly enjoy it since it is so different from other RPGs.

Just treat it like an action game that happens to have RPG elements. I've seen more defenders then haters for the game since 2016.

While hate has become a strong word at this point, I never hated Marvel Superheroes vs. Street Fighter, and slightly enjoy it more than X-Men vs. Street Fighter. A lot of people back in the 90s and 2000s didn't like MSH. While some parts are understandable, the game is still fun and has a good roster overall. Though I do feel they should have kept Rouge and added Psylocke, since she already had a sprite available from two different games. MHS has the better soundtrack and uses actual original tunes for all of the characters, and not just remixes of old tunes.

And as frustrating as he can be, Cyber Akuma is way more interesting final boss.

Two for the price of one..

While not hated, in recent years I hear many criticisms towards how this is one of the worst 2D Mario games... well, I quite like it, maybe because I grew up with this game over the sequel but I find myself revisiting it quite often.

On the other hand..
IMG_6195.png

I'm not the biggest fan of the sequel, I don't dislike it either, but while everybody else seems to prefer it over the first I find myself revisiting it quite less, possibly because I played this much later and thus have less nostalgia, but also hot take, I think the sprites are too big resulting in a screen cropping effect, also I don't like the openness making all the levels equally too easy until the final level where it spikes in difficulty, I rather difficulty spike in games be more gradual.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

I think the story is an interesting idea but the game itself...nah. I thought it was stupid and my interest vanished quickly, I am glad I did not buy that game. I am probably in a deep, deep minority but that game just didn't do it for me at all.

edit: I just realized I am in the retro section and I just named a newer game lmao

Well when it comes to retro games, Final Fantasy, I have zero interest in that series.

I thought I was all unique and cool for getting into Kingsfield about a year ago, only for it to get suddenly popular to talk about on YouTube. Things went from me defending Kingsfield in my discord server from friends calling it bad and seeing threads tearing it apart on the internet. Now suddenly it's a masterpiece that does no wrong. Guess I'm a secret trendsetter that way.

100% with you. Clair Obscur was linear and dull, corridor after corridor dressed up in a weird looking world/aesthetic that just wasn't to my taste at all

It could be the anime bugs rotting my brain innards, but it just looked like Persona 5 without the style I liked in that game. I'm at least thankful for that game at least being something turn based in an age where everyone pretends a game being turn based is suddenly unplayable.

I disliked Jet Set Radio Future.

The first game was great and I was pretty excited to play the sequel, since a lot of people think that it is better, but after playing it I was left disappointed. The biggest gripe that I had was this game's map. I preferred much more when, in the first game, you could just choose a level, than the constant going back and forth. And I really disliked some levels, mainly Sewers and Skyscrapers. Also Death Ball, that section was really fucking boring. I wish I could enjoy this game more.

The graphic and music slapped tho.

As a huge fan of JSRF I honestly get your critiques, however I don't exactly feel the same way, I think the game improved the formula in a multitude of areas, like how they got rid of the graffiti system which was slow, clunky, left you vulnerable to enemy attack, and hindered your character choice based on how easy/quick their graffiti is, another change I liked is they got rid of the timer, which I really like, I find JSRF more of a cozy experience, I like to graffiti every single arrow including the many optional ones while with the first game I tend to completely ignore the optional arrows, but despite how much I love and prefer JSRF I agree the criticisms that you mentioned are valid and they are the kind of changes that "if it doesn't click with you you're not gonna have a good time".

Yeah it's a matter of preference. I for instance liked the graffiti system in the first game, even though it was a bit clunky, but I agree with you on the timer. It's a shame cause I really wanted to like JSRF, maybe I'll give this game a second chance in the future.

I don't know if people actually hate the game but nowadays it's considered.. I dunno. Crusty? LOL

It's definitely The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. A lot of people who I have met said they can't stand the controls (which honestly I don't understand because they are the same? Anyway, they don't enjoy the dice roll for the combat. Honestly, I don't like it either so I modded that to have an accurate hit all the time. I know people don't enjoy the lack of voice acting and the fact that there are no quest markers, etc.

For me, I love it. It was one of the first RPG games I ever played and I fell in love with it. I enjoy reading so I didn't mind that bit. The story is really good, especially with the Tribunal. I could go on, but it's a really good game despite being 24 years old! At least in my opinion.
