Games as art

Well Respectful is such a thing if you consider Games a piece of Art is it respectful if someone takes your Art and ''Improves'' your art,or what he considers as Improved, completely ignoring the Original vision of the Game and Developer, you wouldn't remake the Mona Lisa either right.

They've always been art. Yes, since Space Invaders. Since PONG. Since Tennis for Two and whatever else may have preceded even that.

One thing that boils my piss somewhat is the insistence by some that games only 'became art' when they could resemble movies; or when they actually started looking like their concept materials. Nah, they've always been.

Remakes/remasters are fine, but let's never pretend they're anything to do with game preservation. Because they are, by definition, not preserving the original experience. I personally love a good remake, but then I also love to play original versions to compare and contrast. YMMV

Most Remakes if they are good don't really replace the Original experience for me.And most Remakes/Remasters are not done with soul but are cashgrabs sadly with some exceptions

Absolutely, they're art. And very useful art, actually.

Why wouldn't you "remake" the Mona Lisa? As long as you don't do anything to the actual, original painting... why not?

Same with games. You might hate a remake, but nobody is taking the original game away from you (generally).

Telling the truth is art because video games are part of the 14th art.

1st Art: The Architecture
2nd Art: The Poetry/Literature
3rd Art: The Dance
4th Art: The Music
5th Art: The Painting
6th Art: The Sculpture
7th Art: The Cinematography
8th Art: The Photography
9th Art: The Comic/Manga
10th Art: The Kitchen/Gastronomy
11th Art: The Graphic Design
12th Art: The Television
13th Art: The Advertising
14th Art: The Video Games
15th Art: The Tattoos
16th Art: The Origami

Its not just about not doing anything to the Original per say,its more about calling the so called Improved version of said Art the superior and Better version and calling the Original ugly and outdated in Comparison.

Anyone who tells me that, I simply let them listen to anything by Nobuo Uematsu or Yasunori Mitsuda. Before there was voice acting, before any of it, video game ost's sang the emotions and messages of the game. Lost Odyssey is an absolute, emotional and beautiful masterpiece that you'd better have stock in Kleenex for. Final Fantasy X is a beautiful story, the HD Remaster had me weeping.

Interesting question, yes it could be art for sure.

The soundtrack and the visuals and the storyline.

Videogame are more interesting to me when they are reinterpreting reality in an abstract but readable way. That's why N64 aesthetic is my favorite, alongside a few SNES titles.

Also I hate this notion that games are only art when they are graphically advanced or push your heartstrings. If you ask me, this is art:

Do you all Consider Video Games a piece of Art that deserves Respect or do you see them just as a piece of entertainment that can be replaced and ''Improved at will'' .And do you see Remakes/Remasters as Respectful or Disrespectful to said Art ?
they're a creative form of hand crafted human artistic expression, so yeah I don't see why they wouldn't be considered an art form, remakes and remaster honestly it depends on what you consider respectful.
remasters tend to be more faithful but remakes are kind of a "what if" thing where the game is remade with current hardware, i think most remakes out there tend to be respectful to the source materiel, but the ones that go "oh this THE DEFINITIVE version" tend to miss the point, since the original game still has its charm and reasons to make someone wanna experience it

Yes, they are art, as for Remakes I think that as long as they are faithful to the original work they are still a good tribute as in the case of the Remake of the first Resident Evil.
