Sugar is fine depending on what tea you are drinking. Black tea can be really bitter, especially with lower quality brands, and might need some cream & sugar. Culinary-grade matcha is actually meant to be mixed with sugar, as it's basically latte mix. And some herbal teas are better off with a little sugar added.HARAM , ever gave tea with no sugar a try? It doesn't taste that bad also tea with lots of sugar suck.
This is the proper response. Know your tea, heat it to the correct temperature for its type, and add what is supposed to go with its type and grade. True tea zen requires more knowledge than what's needed to make Kool-Aid.Tea is honestly a pretty broad spectrum. I like certain teas straight and other's with a bit of sugar.
You probably don't heat it correctly. If you use water at a full boil, it will ruin the flavor. You should heat it to a temperature between 70°C & 80°C (160°F & 175°F). (You might need a proper electric kettle with temp controls to get this correct, as intimidating as that is to Americans.) Likewise, consider the grade of the matcha you are using. If it is culinary grade, then you should add milk/cream & sugar, as it is not a high quality grade. If it is ceremony-grade, then add nothing but the water.Matcha has a really weird texture and taste. It genuinely taste like straight up grass to me.
