Final Fantasy Thread

For me it kind of died with XV once they decided to make mediocre action RPGs rather than experiment with turn-based combat. I think all of the talent was siphoned toward the VII remakes as those are actually pretty fun (imo). I really hope XVII goes back to turn-based
The 10219210 VII remakes were shit anyway, the series now appeal to a whole different group of people than what they did until X

When I was in middle school I joked to a friend that once they get to Final Fantasy XXX its going to be impossible to google it without getting a ton of porn, but I'm pretty sure at this rate civilization will have already collapsed by the time they'd make it to 30

It could happen, but probally wont
Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up. XVII would just as soon be a loot shooter with roguelite elements than turn-based at this point

they will probably do something like 30XXX or 3X or just something weird like that to try and avoid getting mixed up in the search results. or it'll be final x fantasy x X. or x final x fantasy x. or no one will care by that point.

I thought the 16th game was fine, but it wasn't a final fantasy game in the slightest. It also likes crashing on me lmao

The remakes are hack and slash games with rpg elements(bare bones i might add) with barely any substance or artstyle, man it bums me out how devs think that "realistic" is an artstyle and killed all the vibrant colors of VII, also less stuff, no Vincent or Sid party members in disc 2, come on now!, they could have implemented co-op at least seeing how the combat works, but that would mean Square has some resemblance to creativity now, it's sad man.

Anyone interested in the MTG Final Fantasy set? No way I'm going to spend on paper magic, but I'm considering reinstalling MTG Arena. Gotta grind some for coins to do some drafts once the set releases. I usually play Arena when a set comes out for a few weeks and then take a break for a long time.

My brother plays MTG and managed to snag the FF6 and FF10 packs. He's gonna play with me and show me how it works, but I've played maybe one game of Magic in my entire life lol.

just started playing the 4 heroes of light this week! im only at like the pirates den so far but i adore this game a bunch already. its so utterly charming and with bravely default being one of my all time favorites its really cool to me to be able to see the sort of start of it all for asanos team

Started on 7, probably because of the big tv sales pitch. Rare to get a huge sales pitch on television for a game. In fairness, it was amazing to play at the time. I went back playing it not too long ago and it has huge flaws. Still, was an amazing experience for the time. Based on that, I suppose it's where you start from. I enjoyed 8,9, 10(part1) & 12. Went off the rails from that point. Went back and played 6 and 4. Enjoyed them too. 7 did have a bit of something about it, probably because I was primed and new to the series.

I was very surprised by the new FFT remaster. The texture filtering, the Denuvo, the price!

Yeah, the high def pixel smoothing filter makes old games look cheap. Like mobile games. I get that it is cost effective, but they should've spent more time on this remake to get it right or not release it at all. It looks like they put less effort into it than what Tactics Ogre got from its remake. I really thought Matsuno wouldn't put his stamp of approval on some Square Enix cashgrab slop, but perhaps I was too optimistic about the influence of my game design king.

The price isn't all that surprising, since Square Enix likes charging premium prices for their games. They are trading on their name value, but that name will mean less and less as time goes on if they continue to release lower quality slop.

Mfs should have just made the game a proper RPG would have been interesting to see
If by proper RPG you mean moving away form the tactical grid system, then I would've liked that, but there'd be a long internet meltdown and it would've required more effort from Squenix.

Wait hold on you mean by tactical grid the entire gameplay tactics was made with right? What i meant was just remake the game to be more like other final fantasy games and less RNG bullshit.

Who'd interpret your

No one'd interpret your original comment like that! Anyway, I didn't know RNG was that much of an issue in Tactics. I guess attacks and status effects tend to miss a lot, but missing was so common early in the FF games.

I agree; the phrasing made it sound as if you meant to make it a regular RPG as opposed to a strategy RPG.

This clarification makes me glad I didn't respond with anger, as was my first inclination. 😅
