I was really disappointed V and VI never got a DS remake like they did for IV

Also, playing through Dirge of Cerberus. It's certainly... something. Anyone who complains about the Remake series butchering VII's lore should rewatch Advent Children and play DoC. That ship sailed long ago.

crisis core is the only good part of the ff7 mini series.

I was so waiting for that. I hoped to see these overrated classics making the transition to glorious low poly 3D. Much shouting on the streets, but I would've loved some low poly VI tbh. And the forums would've been glorious.
Still, what a waste it was to do 3D on the DS and 2D on PSP. The platforms should've been inverted for those.

Yeah quite a shame square keeps repackaging them adds something little and calls it a day like goddammit just remake it from scratch would be better there is a million version of the first 6 games which makes it confusing for new comers even i was confused and turned away when i saw the version thing for FF7 it took me playing WarCraft 2 on PS1 emulator to be in such a state to play my first FF game which was 7

@Pandaprewmaster325 I mean... Final Fantasy VII has a bunch of ports, which are the same game with some problems inherent to Square being incapable of porting old console games properly.

The first 6 games got a lot less confusing to play when Squenix released them all in the form of the pixel remasters. Those versions are widely available in modern systems, and those are the versions everyone is going to play. They are (mostly) rebuilt from scratch. Graphics are almost entirely new, and they run on a new engine. These versions will be around forever because they were made from fairly portable tech (Unity).

even i was confused and turned away
But people like you who're willing to emulate any platform are minority. For nearly everyone the pixel remasters are the easy choice.

Yeah it was just numerical thing like uh should i play this FF7 numbered version 1.2 or something? Or this? Or that? I was expecting some bullshit game that was going to be FF7 and absolutely dogshit and childish story with tedious gameplay damn i was wrong lol , yeah I'm not super fond of the looks of the pixel remaster it's probably just me not playing the version I'm quite biased to whatever version i play and would say i prefer FF6 PS1 port just cuz FMVs same for 5 and 4 , i find it outrageous how square makes dissidia with fully voiced 3d characters from the first 6 games shoving them into this super detailed world with story and all where these characters come from? A SNES game with 0 voice acting and mediocre graphics at best and you get to fight static sprites it just makes me go on a long siggggh knowing a prequel to FF was made and even included a DLC with FF1 characters facing jack and what's this prequel for? A shitty looking 2d game with 0 story whatsoever like BRUH how the hell is the prequel more advanced than the game it's a prequel for? What the hell are square smoking? You get everything at the ready just give us FF1 remake already and let us relive FF1 with all the graphical aspects of today and finally FINALLY make the warrior in his knight form be wearing lore accurate armor so much missed opportunities man....i guess we will never get anything like this cuz pixel remaster is most likely the "definitive" way of playing these games in square eyes.

No grooming the newcomers
We want people to find role-playing accessible amd enjoyable

True it even feels square used to do it with the trap rooms of FF2 and the disguised dancer in FF4 and the ultima getting casted by that boss in kefka tower my mind goes to that evil tom image being probably how the devs were making these set pieces

listen up every one, i had the weirdests dream, i dremt that fonal fantasy X had an obscure ds version, it looked really bad and i kinda liked it, some of the special fetures that the ds version had were; beeing able to change the character on the overworld, new cutcenes and dungeons, you had to aim kimaris overdrives, like jump, you had to aim the target with a shaodw on the floor and a bar in the top left telling you how much intil he autimatically fell, and character and summons coiuld be in battle at the same time, that dream was so weird but damn i would love to see a ds version of final fantasy X

I had a similar dream once where chrono trigger also got a pixel remaster version and was included alongside the ff1-6 pixel remasters for some reason

i mean it would be a nice bonus for the pixel remater, but i think crono trigger would look a little weird on the pixel remater stile, those games feel too bright, and i don't think crono trigger woudl look good on a more bright palete

im in the middle of 10 and 14. 14 i was playing for a year straight until i got too burned out (also all of Kingdom hearts got released near the same time dawn trail did, so i just played through all of that). 10 i just got distracted by something else. i love the expert sphere grid, i think its the best "build your own job" type system this series has had. materia and junction i would just re-equip everything to another 3 people or equip to the same 3 people and ignore everyone else. in 10 everyone is useful so i don't feel unattached to any party members.

i'm doing some cleaning, both physical and digital cleaning and tidying up; and i found an old assignment from my final college class. and this seemed like an appropriate thread to show it off.
one of the things that we had to do was make our own typeface and create a poster with it.
it's probably a little obvious where i took a bit of inspiration from. :)

Almost finished XV

I could tell it got heavily cut down during development. The plot feels half written (Luna is barely even there, clear they didn't know what to do with her after rewrites; I miss Stella), the camera is terrible (pro tip: do NOT fight near trees), and there are some egregious visual glitches. Still, I enjoy it mostly for the dynamic between the four main characters and the massive open world. It really feels like a buddy road trip with four old friends.

it kind of had to be shortened down. the game spent nearly a decade in development, and the longer it went on, the higher the chance of it never being completed. the guy in charge kept wanting to add and remove things at random and even at one point, wanted to change the game fundamentally by turning it into a musical video game.
it also was planned from the start to be a multimedia series, with an anime, movie and a couple of other games to go with it. and it shared it's development cycle alongside ff13 and type 0; so everyone was spread out a bit during that time period.

Finished both IV and III 3D PC versions(yeah, in that order) recently, honestly i enjoyed IV more than III, but that doesn't mean III was bad per se, hopefully i will start IV-After Years 3D on PC soon, saw the opening and now Cecil became Joseph Joestar for some reason...

Also quick note: Zeromus was glorious in 3D, honestly it was great!

I've been hankering to play through FF1. The fact it uses a Vancian magic system is really unique to JRPGs. The only other NES RPGs I can think that have spell uses rather than MP are WRPG ports like Wizardry or Bard's Tale.

By now there's got to be ROM hacks with QOL fixes and such. I'm curious what people's thoughts are about the OG Final Fantasy.

ive been slowly working my way through the nes version of ff3. i played ff1 and loved it a lot, but when i tried to play ff2 i got stuck at deist caverns because the hill gigas enemies kept steamrolling my party, and i couldnt do anything about it. (i was really enjoying the game up to that point, too...)

ff3 holds up extremely well as an nes rpg, it's so impressive for the time and i can totally get why they had such a hard time figuring out how to remake it. (have you seen the water effects in that game????) its the only game of the original 6 that didnt get a gba remake, and they waited till the ds to do a full 3d remake. to be honest though, i dont know how i feel about the 3d version... i really like when the older final fantasies let me roleplay with my characters. yknow, give them my own names and personalities in my head, i think that's really fun. they sorta take that away in the 3d remake, which feels kinda lame. (that's just my opinion, of course)

besides those, ive also been working my way through ff9, and that game is super good! it looks insane for the hardware, and i love the characters to death. steiner might be my favorite guy so far, im only on disc 1 but hes just so goofy and fun. it's cute to see him encouraging vivi through improve himself too, you can tell he really cares about the kid. speaking of which, vivi is also really good, i love his storyline so far. (no spoilers, please!!!!) design wise though, i'd say my favorite party members might be Freya and Quina. Quina was one of the few characters i knew about before starting the game, but Freya i only found out about when i saw her for the first time in game. people say the red mages always have the best designs, and they weren't lying!

It's great, but riddled with obnoxious bugs and issues.
I'd recommend (if I remember correctly) the "Final Fantasy Restored" hack. It's been a while but I think that's the good NES hack I played.

About to finish FFVI. I got to Kefka last night but after two attempts I decided to grind some more so I went to the forest with all the t-rex enemies and spent an hour staring slackjawed at my DS slowly watching my damage numbers go up in a dripfeed of serotonin. Lexapro could never
