Looking back, I appreciate the political themes in FF7 and Tactics. Tactics, especially, with its scathing critique of religion and the themes about class warfare.
Still looking for ones that do that today. Dragon Age was a close contender and Lair had some stuff left on the cutting room floor after Sony told them to censor it.

Play XII at this point, you never had. Also other classics like IV and VI if you never did for those as well, but that's because the SNES era has a huge place in my heart.

I've never played the original but I played through all the main games on Steam already and figured this might be ok if I never played the original version, if only for the qol and keep myself ignorant to how much better the ps1 version looked. Still debating if its worth trying.

Play the PSP version "Final Fantasy Tactics The War of the Lions (Slowdown Removal Patched)"(look for it on The Repo) and use the PPSSPP emulator, it's the best way to play the game.

I'm so freakin hyped for Final Fantasy 27 omg

Same.
Those themes are my favorite in FF14 by far, and I’m sad they toned the diplomatic mission feel down in favor of more ”generic” save-the-world adventures (even though both have always coexisted in the game).

It’s still there occasionally but usually not in the same way as before. The writing in general feels more juvenile than it used to.

hello - i own final fantasy 16 but has yet to play it - i really enjoyed ff15 and the brotherhood that it made me feel - the cooking - just the overrall exp of the game - is ff16 gonna make me feel good and comtible like this lol - or is this a totally diff exp

Completely different.
16 is a much more serious story in general, and way more linear so there's not that "exploring with the gang" feel, but I don't mean that as a necessarily bad thing, just that they're very different.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who actually enjoy ff15 exploration. Though the story is a mess..

I guess they're going back to its roots then. How much linear is it compared to FF VII remake?

I still wish squenix to at least integrate a bit of that open world feeling FFXV had. It doesn't have to be as open as Xenoblade but those linear rpg gameplay is caused by hardware limitations back in the day. They can do so much better now.

I've not played enough of 16 to warrant any real thoughts, and I only watched my brother play FF7R (the first part), sorry, which looked like it was structured almost like a Yakuza game. I feel like 16 is more open than that, but as I said I haven't really played it enough to be knowledgeable, but it's not an open world game I don't think?

Yakuza definitely feels more open world and have more things to do besides main quest (though much smaller) than ff7 remake which is very linear and I have played both. So maybe I'm not going to buy ff16 anytime soon 😢

Just don't take my word as whether or not you should get 16. I haven't played enough of it to be able to persuade or dissuade you.
My brother enjoyed it a lot. My biggest gripe is the rapid action gameplay. FF7R was a better inbetween action and menus imo.

Well, a small remake of Final Fantasy 7 It's okay but there is not much to experience there.

Hmm, I wouldn't have expected that Final Fantasy 6 would be his favorite but I could imagine that this game will probably be the next remake well hopefully they don't mess it up.

What would it look like if Square Enix made a Final Fantasy game that was specficially designed to focus on horror? What would it look like? (I'm excluding Parasite Eve and Koudelka for the sake of discussion).

I didnt play FF8 to get to this part yet (because of the junction system) but this is one of the rarest moments when final fantasy goes horror, what if square enix take this part of the game and made a full rpg horror game in the final fantasy universe.

Final Fantasy 8 is almost a horror rpg and fits well with Halloween. I always found these witch fights scary.

Also, Chrono Cross had some minor horror elements to the game as well.

Horror has been a part of Final Fantasy since the early games in the franchise, but I think they started to really bring it out more around the time of Final Fantasy 6, when things that were not just scary/creepy enemies started appearing more in the game; story elements or aspects of horror that they drew on more like Terra being mind-controlled, Cloud having his mental thing happen, etc.

It's called Mystic Quest
The scariest thing in that game is the Falls Basin/Mines freeze glitch where the music stops and the game hard-locks.
