I don't think there's a definitive best way to play it, I'd recommend both the steam/psp/android 3D version and the pixel remaster, they are similar obviously but with fundamental differences that to me make it worth checking both out

While at the time I played the NES version and it was ok for me, for my 2nd playthrough I would prefer this version because I'm told it worth to play especially because it's faithful to the original: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1173790/FINAL_FANTASY_III/

However I actually wanna play PSP version because it seem to add cute and different experience to the game!!!: https://retrogametalk.com/repo/psp/final-fantasy-iii/

But this remake is not faithful to the original so they said yet it's ok for 2nd playthrough and also for people who disliked the original.

I would argue for the 3D remake (DS/PSP/Android). Combat is arguably more difficult due to the condensing of targets, but the presentation is so damn charming that it would be hard to turn away. You get a little more in terms of story and characterization too.

As an aside, this game has one of the most soothing town tracks I've ever heard:

I love the Pixel Remaster of 3, especially with Re FF3 PixelRemaster as the spritework puts offical SE ones to shame. OTOH, I also love the DS version too. It's a different spin with actual talking party members in a narrative about being orphans. And I don't think the 3D graphics look bad at all. The Famicon FF3 was more like a middleground between FF1 and FF5.

3 is kind of a weird game, i wasn't the biggest fan of any version, but pixel remaster is considered the definitive i think.

I haven't played the pixel remaster, but I've played a decent amount of the 3D remake. I like it more in principle since it has characters with some personality while the original never individualised them. It also has the cutest art style.

The pixel remasters have the issue of not scrolling smoothly, and having shimmering whenever you scroll. That's something that annoyed me about VI PR, and I decided not to play those versions. Other than that, I hope they balanced the game more leniently than the original.

yeah, that stupid issue ruined Pixel Remasters of 1, 2, 5 and 6 for me. Even with the pr-fix mod and timing tweaks they still shudder like crazy on my PC. 3+4 though? For some reason I'm not clever enough to understand, they run buttery smooth. But, yeah, ffs Squeenix. Quality control please.

I've played both the NES and DS version and I prefer the DS version. They didn't really change much other than give the 4 main characters names and personalities.
Good. You saved me the effort of summoning you to this thread ;D

I didn't even know there was a DS version, now I may actually play it!

It's on Steam. If you want to go the emulation or handheld hardware route, I recommend the PSP version. It looks better, is proper widescreen, better music quality, and it has the auto-battle option which is really nice for getting JP.

Checked the video evilrio posted in this thread so PSP version seems FTW but NDS version has "cute" display of selecting characters while you buy stuff for them. It make me wonder how else the NDS version using 2 screens for such cute situations to experience!!! lol

The DS version has lots of little additions like this. I think it's a good experience on the PSP/Android port as well, but some concessions had to be made to get it onto one-screen devices.

I didn't remember that. I do own the DS version, but I haven't played it in over a decade. However, the autobattle function I would say you wouldn't want to do without in this game. The way they give you job points is a set value per combat action. Job levels don't go up efficiently enough with just going through the game, so you should grind some. Auto battle helps that by allowing you to efficiently spam non-lethal actions in combat like defend and steal so you can get job levels more easily.

But 2 screens cuteness!!! ::sadkirby

I guess I'll play both PSP and NDS versions. Problem solved. Why not both right? lolol

I'd go for the FFIII Pixel Remaster. In my opinion, it's much more faithful to the original than the 3D remake, but with quality-of-life improvements!

what do y'all think about the Final Fantasy set for Magic The Gathering? And what are some of your best pulls or favorite cards?

Never played Magic: The Gathering nor I'll ever will but my brother always talks about it so I know a lot about the game than it would be useful to me!!! So he just mentioned about FF cards came into the game but he doesn't care about FF, he complained how useless this content is but I was kinda glad they added Zack Fair card and seriously thought "I think this time I may play this Magic shit and use my all knowledge about it into a good use finally!!" but was dissappointed for how useless they made him. The guy is way stronger than damn developers care about!!! Me dissappointed because what they did to my beloved Zack Fair is Not Fair!!! lolol

Sadly, have nothing useful to add. I bought the two pack of starter decks, but the person who wanted to play has been busy. Be interested to hear what you or others think.

I haven't actually played MTG in a while now as I've not liked the direction it's going, but I couldn't help but be giddy at the flavor win of the Zenos card as a longtime FFXIV player and Zenos apologizer.
