You find rare items by putting move-find item ability and pray to god it works
I mean you do you, that’s fine by me but I’m more commenting for the others following this thread that a straightforward translation isn’t intrinsically less "westernized" and more accurate. The translation is also going to have the bias of the translator built in and due to the differences in grammar and the limitations of the English language there‘s always guess work. If you don’t speak the original language how could you possibly judge the quality of translations in the first place? Also this feels like an old battle, so just a reminder on localizations in general, that working designs has been defunct for 20 years and we’re no longer in the 90s. That war is over.I get your point, I'm saying I don't prefer those kinds of translations. I'm less interested in "portraying a tone" than I am in the more literal text, and that is why I tend to prefer most fan translations to official translations. I don't want to start an argument, because this topic typically devolves into that, but I am very much anti-localization. I view localization as a form of censorship in most cases. Especially since when trying to "convey the nuance/tone/feel", it usually results in drastic departures from the original script, even resulting in mischaracterizations. I don't prefer that.
I play Japanese games to experience Japanese games, not games localized through a Western lens. And I know 1:1 translation is nearly impossible, but that's why I prefer more dry, literal translations, with annotations or notes explaining cultural concepts or terms that don't translate well. Some might be lost in translation, but at least it isn't changed or Westernized.
the tactics prime mod makes it so rare items are found much more often [i think it was a guaranteed 100% chance] when using the treasure hunter ability, which nets you random items when moving onto a tile. i'll check later on the missable items thing.I heard tweak also makes it so some missable items are no longer missable and improves the find rate of rare items. Is that true
i found the readme file from the patch on romhacking.netI heard tweak also makes it so some missable items are no longer missable and improves the find rate of rare items. Is that true
Vivi is awesome in ff9, but i would have to say that i'm a little biased on this subject. my character, Kosmos, is the best black mage. What‘s everyone’s favorite black mage in the series and why is it Vivi?
okay. just checking. thanks for the info. do you know if jobs gain jp while they aren't being used?I believe Ramza is present in every battle and cannot be sent to do jobs away from the party.
Do you mean do you gain JP just by attacking without using a JP skill? No I don't think so unless there's some support ability (I don't remember if there was equipment to passively gain JP) on the character. You should gain JP and Exp when you send the character on a job or mission from the pub though.okay. just checking. thanks for the info. do you know if jobs gain jp while they aren't being used?
i was getting ablilities for my characters, and i noticed that they seemed to be gaining jp for the other jobs that they weren't using at the moment. ramza just got white and black mage unlocked, and he's been a squire this whole time.Do you mean do you gain JP just by attacking without using a JP skill? I don't remember this in the PSX original, I mainly used the JP scroll bug to gain JP but it stayed in that job alone no spill overs.i was getting ablilities for my characters, and i noticed that they seemed to be gaining jp for the other jobs that they weren't using at the moment. ramza just got white and black mage unlocked, and he's been a squire this whole time.
i am playing a mod, but the read me file doesn't say anything about passive jp gain. i have some screenshots of ramza's job stats.
and i have the read me file if you want to look at it.
i went over to gamefaqs to see if this was a thing, i found this in the answer board:I don't remember this in the PSX original, I mainly used the JP scroll bug to gain JP but it stayed in that job alone no spill overs.
Sorry but mystic looking dog people are best mage for quick easy runs if you keep them out of the way. Elementalist and Sage is a good combo for humans I won't lie but I prefer their movement for more melee classes along with Bangaa.
Well, if we are talking about Final Fantasy Tactics Advance specifically sure.
What‘s everyone’s favorite black mage in the series and why is it Vivi?
No story character can be assigned to propositions.@Pandaprewmaster325
i have a question to ask you about final fantasy tactics. is there any spot or point in the game where Ramza is unplayable for any reason? i was thinking of going about a different approach for my run through the game instead of how i normally do things.
i plan on just having 6 characters as my main party. ramza and 5 others. i already have 3 that i'm working on and i plan on adding 2 more. just wanted to know if there was any spot where he might not be selectable for battle.
okay. i wasn't sure since things are a bit different from the tactics advance games. your max battle party size is 5, not 6. i'm still in chapter 1, finalizing my party. i read that all generic characters recruited are level 1, and random encounters scale with your highest level character. and unlike in the advance games, characters don't get exp by just participating; they have to make an action to get exp and jp.No story character can be assigned to propositions.
No so far you don't switch characters or as I call it a narrative switch where you get to play as someone else other than ramza contrary to FF7 with cloud or 8 with squall , ramza or more accurately you are always present in story missions HOWEVER other characters once no longer guests can be added or removed from party or battle.
Although I advise on keeping any special character cuz they really good it shrinks the total of soldiers you have which can limit your proposition reach but gives you special abilities not available to normal soldiers idk how far are you into the story to have gotten them but you probably seen agrias spamming stastis sword.
I'd be pretty stoked for an HD-2D remake of FF5 with an expanded job system personally. FF3 and FF4 already had 3d remakes. I don't really think 5 would benefit much from going 3d. 4's story was more cinematic and benefitted from the 3d by expanding its cutscenes. Five's cutscenes tended to be more over the top and exaggerated to try and convey emotions and I think it would look kind of goofy if they made it 3d but changing them to be less cartoony would ruin the tone of the game. And that's why remaking these games from 1-6 bringing 3d modern graphics while keeping to the game original artstyle like FF6 more grim tone or 5 more shiny and lighthearted tone or 2 being tragic (while hardly ever feeling like it) or 1 a classic adventure , people already love these games I don't see why a FF6 or 2 remake would be a bad idea it would finally fix all shortcomings of these old games and hopefully maybe win a game of the year instead of a funny robot platformer winning it.
Damn you square why you starve us of good games getting modernized properly...
Pro tip: if they have low move value give them item if they lose health or get close to an ally they can heal them this ensures they get XP every turn.okay. i wasn't sure since things are a bit different from the tactics advance games. your max battle party size is 5, not 6. i'm still in chapter 1, finalizing my party. i read that all generic characters recruited are level 1, and random encounters scale with your highest level character. and unlike in the advance games, characters don't get exp by just participating; they have to make an action to get exp and jp.
i thought that they would have started the unique characters are permanent additions to your party in the first one, so that's not surprising. do they join starting at specific levels, or are they lv 1 when you get them?
i'm still in chapter one, getting my last new recruit prepped and up and running. i have a screenshot of the next story battle location.
Well going into a detailed temple of wind or the getting to see a massive library of ancients and getting to do battle of big bridge in 3d would be so cool , I think 3d allows for more meaningful expressions for characters as proven by FF8 giving each character a very unique attitude and making them more memorable of course we are no longer in the 90s era when things like that were cool and new.I'd be pretty stoked for an HD-2D remake of FF5 with an expanded job system personally. I'm generally not a fan of it, but I think 5 would actually suit more of a cel shaded, anime type look than realistic 3d. Something like DQ VIII's style but not Akira Toriyama style designs. You could keep the more lighthearted tone and exaggerated expressiveness without it looking so goofy and cartoony.
