Guilty Gear Strive fucking sucks, and XRD is overrated trash. The last good Guilty Gear game is XX ACCENT CORE PLUS R.
Lately I have this profound enjoyment playing the original it may not be great as the latter releases but it sure is one heck of a start for the series.Guilty Gear Strive fucking sucks, and XRD is overrated trash. The last good Guilty Gear game is XX ACCENT CORE PLUS R.
Guilty Gear (1998) is pretty rough overall, it's very proof of concept, but its sequels (Guilty Gear X and XX) are that concept finally being realized.Lately I have this profound enjoyment playing the original it may not be great as the latter releases but it sure is one heck of a start for the series.
I realized a while back that I only really ever liked GG for the cool music and wacky designs.Guilty Gear Strive fucking sucks, and XRD is overrated trash. The last good Guilty Gear game is XX ACCENT CORE PLUS R.
I sometimes play the naomi versions of guilty gear and i like the beat em up version on the PSPGuilty Gear Strive fucking sucks, and XRD is overrated trash. The last good Guilty Gear game is XX ACCENT CORE PLUS R.
Based take, but chill on Xrd lol. It was still a fun game (to me anyway) and while I think the art style was a downgrade, it at least was still holding onto some of the aesthetics the franchise was known for. You're right though that AC was the peak of the series.Guilty Gear Strive fucking sucks, and XRD is overrated trash. The last good Guilty Gear game is XX ACCENT CORE PLUS R.
I hate XRD mainly because it retconned the series' lore and made the events of XX and Accent Core Plus no longer canon.Based take, but chill on Xrd lol. Fair, but I think I still give it a pass strictly for game play reasons. It was still fun to play as well as having that depth and mastery level the older ones had. Plus, it did give us Sin (Before they completely ruined him in Strive)I hate XRD mainly because it retconned the series' lore and made the events of XX and Accent Core Plus no longer canon.
Yeah, at least XRD still plays like an anime fighter, something that Strive doesn't even have the luxury of having.Fair, but I think I still give it a pass strictly for game play reasons. I'll be completely real with you, I can't even really remember Xrd's story lol (Probably meaning it wasn't that good to me). Strive's story legitimately made me uninstall the game it pissed me off that much.Yeah, at least XRD still plays like an anime fighter, something that Strive doesn't even have the luxury of having.
I still hate the XRD's story though.
One funny thing is that Daisuke didn't even write the stories for XX and Accent Core Plus. XX was written by Norimitsu Kaiho, and the story for Accent Core Plus was written by Bingo Morihashi (the same guy who wrote the stories for the Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma series).I'll be completely real with you, I can't even really remember Xrd's story lol (Probably meaning it wasn't that good to me). Eh, story and lore in a fighting game doesn't matter that much.I hate XRD mainly because it retconned the series' lore and made the events of XX and Accent Core Plus no longer canon.
Doesn't surprise me to hear that tbh. It seems to be quite common in Japan for games and anime where an artist will have an idea and some cool designs for characters but then they'll bring in a writer to work with said artist to flesh it all out. I could see Daisuke being an artist like that; good artist and musician (Well maybe not anymore), but bad at fleshing out his own concepts. One funny thing is that Daisuke didn't even write the stories for XX and Accent Core Plus. The worst part is that Daisuke admitted that he was too lazy to write the stories for XX and Accent Core Plus.Doesn't surprise me to hear that tbh. The more I learn about Daisuke, the more my love/hate feelings for him grow in both directions. Was probably for the best in this case though lol.The worst part is that Daisuke admitted that he was too lazy to write the stories for XX and Accent Core Plus. View attachment 103013
The fact that Daisuke decided to retcon the events of these two games simply because of his own ego is just... Wow... Just wow.The more I learn about Daisuke, the more my love/hate feelings for him grow in both directions. Was probably for the best in this case though lol.
To then come to Strive where he has almost no involvement outside of music and occasionally doing some promo illustrations. Well done, Daisuke, absolutely killing it broThe fact that Daisuke decided to retcon the events of these two games simply because of his own ego is just... Wow... Just wow.
The best thing to come out of Strive is the slur Striver, that shit is just hilarious. To then come to Strive where he has almost no involvement outside of music and occasionally doing some promo illustrations. Well done, Daisuke, absolutely killing it bro
So no matter the conclusions we draw about changes to established characters and whether we've played a Guilty Gear game before, avoid Strive? The best thing to come out of Strive is the slur Striver, that shit is just hilarious. View attachment 103030
