No problem, glad to help. I love the original soundtrack more but i still like the PS1 music. You should try DOOM 64 too because the music is similar to the ps1 game.

It's DOOM. You can't go wrong either way to be honest. I think the PC MIDI OST is far more immersive. The low-quality sounds pumped out by whatever your PC was using for audio, combined with the (at the time) massive gore and body parts, leaned much more into the otherworldliness of it, or at least I think so.

As user @jankusanagi pointed out, the game sounded different depending on what you were packing, whether it was a Sound Blaster, Gravis Ultrasound, or something else.
But this also rings true for the PSX version. That version of DOOM will sound far better on a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system than coming out of a set of TV speakers.

For me, OG DOS DOOM...

Oh hell yeah! I've been following it, and since I already had both games on GoG, I got it for free! I'm gonna play them later tonight maybe. Same kind of modern port as their latest Doom release so it's gonna be great all around.

Actually, speaking of it, it's funny that these remakes came out just now, while I'm in a moment of interest on oldschool tabletop RPGs. As we know, both Doom and Quake were strongly inspired by D&D sessions that the idSoftware guys played back in the day, and this retroactively feeds into the oldschool fantastical feeling I'm having recently. Which both makes me want to replay these boomshoots, play some of the new ones like Amid Evil and Wrath, but also to take elements from them into my own pen and paper RPG activities.

I mean, there really already is no shortage of modernized engines to run heretic+hexen on but this was still a decent surprise. Comes with new episodes (expansions?) for both games even.
I know this might be a bit nitpicky with the original midi and fm synth options there, but I really don't think Andrew Hulshult was the right choice to remake the soundtrack of these. It just sounds a bit off.

It's not Doom but I've tried Catacombs 3-D and while I sensed the DNA basis for Wolfenstein 3D I kinda wish to see a sourceport or any form of modernisation

I still love Go 2 it from Plutonia. It's probably the first official slaughter map.
Agreed. One of the best DOOM maps ever imo. Many have surpassed it in terms of sheer numbers, but back in 199X, this was for the hardest of the hardcore (outside of stuff like NUTS.WAD)

Slam Dance with the Sun God from BTSX episode II (I think?) is a great modern slaughter map too though, I think, once you get past the rocky intro.

I'll be honest, as much as I wanna play Doom Eternal the Ancient Gods Part 1&2 and Doom The Dark Ages I really don't like the lore and "viking/nordic mythos/metal" ambience and would've preferred something morel like the original games or even the Doom 3 lore with the Martian Civilization...

Then again New Doom is overdoing with story and lore when those are very secondary in the originals.

Every time I see this I have to wonder what the hell is up with that hairline. I feel like I'm not really seeing what the artist intended here.
Maybe that's a buzz cut in the future. Everyone in the space marines has em? lol

Been playing Doom since I was a toddler and it always scared the absolute shit out of me. Have much love for Chex Quest and I'll often bust it out (very excited that the Bethesda Doom+Doom 2 collection has it in the mods section)

I think one of the most impressive total conversions that I've seen is Memoirs Of Magic by strawberryoctopus
