Switch Do you Agree with the Switch 2 Price?

OK then, I guess people didn't get the memo. So fun fact (this not political, just fact) due to the Tariffs, Nintendo pulled the pre-order cause due to uncertain future, that price may go up during the summer. You might want to go to Canada to get it cheaper....also might actually get it considering Scalpers are selling fakes by the dozen. What a world we live...

the price of the console could be a little less and the games should be 60€ max like most of their exclusives in recent years.

People are defending the prices saying that's because of inflation and that old consoles would cost the same, if not more, nowadays, but they tend to forget that our paychecks didn't go up as well.
Well, to be fair, I'm still a student; I was jobless in 2017 and I'm jobless in 2025.

The console itself isn't the biggest problem lmo (despite 470 euros being still a bit high), it's that everything else related to the console either has unreasonable prices or it's surrounded by anti-consumer choices.
One of the new gimmicks of the console, which is a basic video chat (running at roughly 9fps in the video presentation), is blocked behind a paid subscription; digital games are 70/80 euros, and physical ones are even higher despite some of them not even having the full game on the cartridge; accessories for the console have even higher prices than the last generation; and lastly, Nintendo decided to launch the Switch 2 with many titles from the Switch with small updated. Paid updates, to be precise. Surely they'll release a lot of new titles as well, but I'm growing tired of having the same game launched two or even three times on three different consoles with "new content" at full price; I'm starting to understand how Wii/Wii U owners felt.

Yeah anyway I'm still playing on my Vita.

Apparently it's not. The official camera from the site is 60 euros/dollars/whatever

Because of America fucking up something with the Tarrifs', I cannot describe the price of the Switch 2 until the price gets updated post-tariffs. But for the price of 450, it's still lower than it's contenders Xbox and PS5, but still that's a very high price. I don't know for this one.

It's all Wii U all over again, isn't it? I'm gonna buy a regular Switch, used, and just solder mod it. Definitely 5 times more worthwhile, there isn't even any online games worth playing on Switch anymore to be honest.

JAPAN Price is CHEAPER but only in Japanese Language Region Locked

Honestly... I don't buy games brand new anymore. So the price increase doesn't matter to me. I'll just wait for the prices to fall. It happens with any console that is popular enough. I mean just look at the average price of a Wii game or a DS game.

If people want to spend £90 on a game. That's their choice. If developers want to sell their games for £90, that's also their choice. My opinion doesn't matter.
As an example, I personally don't think buying a house should put you in debt for the rest of your life, but if people are willing to buy them for that amount of money and people are willing to sell them for that amount of money, who am I to tell them otherwise. It just alienates me, and it's not like anyone owes me anything.

I wanna know if people support the console being $449.99 and the games being 80 to 90 dollars. Personally I believe that the Switch 2 should cost 300 dollars and the games should cost 30-40 dollars but what does everyone else think?
For more info about how I feel about the Switch 2 prices here's a link to a video in where I rant about it if you want to hear my full unaltered thoughts on it:

Not to be political, but I partially blame the price on the tariffs bullshit that’s currently happening.
The tariffs were something trump was talking about months ago, if that was the case they wouldn't have halted pre-orders, even then tariffs would only apply currently to physical goods like carts and the switch 2 itself, it would not apply to digital games.

That said the tariff issue was going to happen, if trump didn't do it then his successor would be forced to, not a good thing but this may or may not prevent a global depression, but if it didn't happen a depression would happen in a few years, you can't have so much money in the top 10% and prevent a correction, anyway i'll stop, getting political.

When it comes to the switch however, the argument only works on the console itself and "maybe" the cartridges.

Fuck no!

You have to buy the packin game and the games are now 80€ digital and 90€ physical. 70€ was already plain too much, and even 60€ was pushing it, which applies to all games, not just Nintendo mind you. They are capitalising on the fact that no other console is truly viable, Xbox is just a locked off PC and Playstation has no games anymore. Nintendo knows they can get away with this, so they just do it.

I personally think that the Switch 2 should be 500€ and games should be 50€ digital and 60€ physical. I also think the packin game should, you know, be included with the console and not a seperate purchase. The console price itself isn't too bad, even though, it is not good either, but the game prices are the real issue.

IF the tariff problem with Vietnam goes away, I'll be spending $750 + tax on day one. That's pretty costly for a Nintendo system. Granted, that'll be with 4 games (Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza pre-order, BotW S2E, TotK S2E). I think the Switch 2 should've cost $399.99, however it does look a tad bit more capable than I was expecting so I can't be too mad about the price. $70-$80 Nintendo games is rough, though, for old Switch ports with better resolution/framerate and Switch 2 games that don't exactly push graphics.

Funny thing about those talking about Tariffs Doug Bowser was on an interview with CNBC and said that the price of the Switch 2 has no connection with Tariffs whatsoever, I'll link the video where I got the info here:

The games may be a little overpriced, but the console itself is correctly priced when you consider its components.

And if someone can't afford it despite that... I think within 2 years as was the case with Switch we will get a cheaper handheld only Switch 2 Lite.
And then there are sales that will come sooner or later. E.g. Black Friday

Honestly, I kind of do. I'm not going to try and argue $80 isn't expensive. That's dangerously close to $100 which is SCARY, but games were $60 twenty-five years ago! Just going by inflation, $80 seems fair.
I haven't bought a console since the Wii (not as a form of protest, or anything, I've just been so terminally uninterested by 90% of gaming over the past decade), but the Switch 2 actually has me a bit excited!
Again, none of this is to poopoo anyone's feelings, and you're certainly not wrong for personally finding $80 per game ridiculous, but that new Mario Kart might just be worth $80 to me personally.

Don´t talk ill about Nintendo or they sue your for game mechanics or slandering.
I have the first switch I rarely play on it.
And I seen tons people already pre-order the Mario kart pack and only console to the point you can´t pre-order any more so I don´t think many people are upset about the prices.

So if the consoles are already out pre-order well people seam fine with the prices. But I gave up on consoles after seeing the price of PS5 and series X I spent does money on a decent PC.

If you take into account inflation compared to 2017 then yeah the console is fairly priced at 450$, however you have to consider all the "extras":

-You will probably need a new SD express card because that 256GB space is gonna fill up real quick with today's game sizes. So probably 70-100$ more.

-Screen Protector (it has become the norm for mobiles, tablets, steam deck,etc.). Another 10-20$.

-Pro Controller for couch TV sessions.
Although the old Controller is compatible, in case you don't have you will need another 70-90$.

-Speaking of Controller, the new joycons will not have hall effect sticks, so the possibility of drifting is very high. 90$ more for a new set.

And that's from the top of my head. There's also new camera, maybe new peripherals in the future, etc.

Regarding the Game price increases from 60$ to 80$ and 90$ for retail i find it totally absurd (Nintendo games don't drop in price EVER!) and i hope with the GTA VI release that's not what the new norm will become.

The tariffs are just the icing on the cake.

Really really dark times ahead for gaming as we know it...

I think the price point for the switch 2 is pretty on point. You have to consider that back when the original switch released it was $299.99, so now we have a console that is more powerful and larger, better screen than the original switch and the fact inflation has the price on everything up, $150 difference really isn't that bad. The dollar is worth far les today that is was in 2017, so that has to be taken into consideration when thinking if you're willing to pay the asking price.
My only complaint I suppose is the fact is uses the new Micro SD Express cards, which I realize has it's advantages over the standard Micro card, but that I think would be my complaint.
Hopefully nintendo will realize from the release of the original Switch that they need to have the supply available upon release to meet the demand as best as possible, or it's going to be another Scalper's Paradise again

I think the price for the system itself is reasonable, I just cant accept $80 games and I can't accept them pay walling some of the game upgrades. Sure, the Mario party jamboree and the Kirby upgrades add content and I am fine with the content being paid DLC but I still think the performance boosts should be free for those games.

Not Inflation, TARIFFS!!!! US smack a huge tariff on Japan and China which will raise the price. As I said, there is a good chance that the initial price will jump up during the summer.

Sega could step in and make a budget & developer friendly console. I said it a bunch of times but there is a market for a machine that has Dreamcast like specs and new + old games. Add some modern social features + online game shop and it would sell like crazy for $100-$200. Also include a light gun just because

The console price is OK, a bit steep. The game prices are horrid.
