Switch Do you Agree with the Switch 2 Price?

The only reason I would buy a Switch 2 is to get a launch model that is easily hackable lol

Retro handhelds and a gaming PC have ruined any interest I have in console gaming.

Console price is fine. Software price is insane. I'm still thinking it over, personally.

The switch console price is a little high but not absurdly.

The games however, are insane, 70$ is too much for a game, much less 80 or 90, and yes i know technically they cost less than they used to but people also tend to leave out the economic factors of every period before, economically wages have not grown since i believe the 80's, this means when games costed 100$, you had more money to spend, yet game costs have only risen in real numbers since the 2008 financial crisis especially while people's actual money hasn't grown since some of their grandparent's era, what this means is that for 90% of people, games might "technically" be cheaper, but that means nothing if your economic situation has gone down or hasn't changed at the same time which by the numbers is likely most people.

So 90$ for games is insane, because it would be the equivalent of 90$ for many people, adjusted to the same salary they'd have had in the 90's, economics isn't merely looking at the higher numbers.

Then we have the "switch upgrade", welcome center and the insane cost of perepherals and to be honest, even sony at it's worst didn't go this foolishly greedy with the ps3.

Nah because why are we being charged for the damn instruction manual game, that should have been a damn pack-in.

Minimum wage in the US in 1991 was 4.25$ an hour. It's an exaggeration to say salaries haven't increased since the '80s, however it's true that they haven't kept up with the increase in the cost of living. Also, as a kid none of the families I knew owned all that many games; everyone relied on rental instead for variety, something there is no real replacement for. Gamers routinely owning a million more games than they have time to play is a situation that came about mostly around the time Steam started to get big. But now that we all got used used to games being more affordable it's going to be difficult to ask people to shell out 90 dollars for games, especially for all the lower-profile games.

Not to be political, but I partially blame the price on the tariffs bullshit that’s currently happening.

In part that is true, but it is a multilayered problem that has always been present, and won't be solved by half measures.

I say i agree with the prices, but i probably won't buy the console itself for now at least, i think it's a really good console like the first switch, but for me buying a console with today maket prices??? it's just absurd.

Let me explain, i don't think a console price should be more than 200€/$ and i don't think a day one game should be more than 50/60, but in today market? this price i'm talking about are pure fantasy, if we watch switch 1 prices and sales, we should all agree that the switch 2 price is just "what expected" and it's a price at which it would sell well, for games prince instead, i will just say, it's not 80/90 from what i saw, only one game or two have that price and thats clearely a game that will sell for that price, like it's probably a game that will have new editions in the future with dlc added (being it mario kart), but even supposing now they will release games at that price, i will just say that it was the norm to just keep getting highter game price between a generation change, usually about 10€/$ highter each time... so i don't see the game price problems either... for todays market prices...

With that said, we should all remember how many milions copy some 70€/$ games sells before dropping in price, and how many console sells at more than 450€/$ , with that said and the switch 1 actual sale still going more than well... i say the price is just right, but of course, the console market prices are being outright absurd in the last years so i think we shall all consider that instead, it's not switch 2 and switch 2 games prices that are overpriced, it's the console market that is being like that from years... and the market law say "if it sells well, you can go with highter prices to gain more with less copy to sell" and that it's why prices will keep growing... people still buy at this kind of prices at day one, console and games alike... so it's pretty normal that they keep growing the prices, and i think nintendo with switch 2 have just upped the prices at the right pace too considering the switch 1 prices...

The console itself is fine, iirc the ps5 was like 500 bucks? So this isn't that crazy imo
The game prices are plain ridiculous though. They need to be lowered.

Also nice profile set or whatever it's called

While I don't mind the price of the console, the game pricing is putting me off completely so I don't plan on buying one at launch simply to not send Nintendo the message that I agree with their new game pricing.

"Yay, finally! Someone else who understood games are actually cheaper now because of inflation!"

Yes, but salaries have not risen at the rate of inflation, so for us the games are not cheaper. Furthermore, I doubt that Nintendo employees' salaries have increased at the same rate as inflation, so even if there are other costs that have suffered inflation, Nintendo mainly wants to increase its margins.

I don't mind the price if they can make sure the availability of the console during launch. and broaden the sales area, I live in the country that are not officially release, so it'll be more expensive than the MSRP. Also, they should reduce the digital version more compared to physical games

While we are getting poorer year after year because of inflation, the salaries of big business executives have increased dramatically over the past 20 years.

This is one of the reasons why I no longer endorse this system. I don't buy consoles anymore, only old used PCs like Dell pro and I play via emulation or i buy my games 10$ maximum on Gog.

Console price is fine, just keep in mind they're making you pay an unnecessary like extra 50 bucks for that garbage ass camera no ones gonna use. Everything factors into the price unfortunately.

I think the camera it's not bundled with the console ( might be wrong)

I thought it was? In that case the price is ridiculous, the LCD Steam Deck is cheaper than the Switch 2 and has the same amount of storage and same screen and better specs on top of all that than the Swirch 2. "But no exclusives!" You're not buying a 100 dollar game post tax anyway.
When factoring the price we have to look at all the meaningless trash the Switch 2 has, the magnetic joycons are also factored in, the camera if its part of the standard release, pretty much everything goes into the price. But if there's no camera then the price in my opinion based on hardware should technically drop yo 400 at least. "But a camera shouldn't cost $50" Yeah. It shouldn't. But we all know Nintendo.

Absolutely not, it is the most expensive out of the other current gen consoles on the market, including the Steam Deck. You can buy a Switch OLED for nearly half the price & you'll still have 99% of the Switch 2's library.

They really need to slash the price by $70-$100 for it to be reasonable, and that's not unprecedented either since that's what they done to the 3DS (which cost $250 at launch, but was then cut down to $180 after a year of poor sales).

Nintendo is no longer the budget option I guess, was really disappointed with how the game keycards seem to be just glorified drm; but not entirely surprised with how most western devs cheaped out with the small capacity switch cartridges and downloading the rest of the game. The whole thing feels like the wii u all over again.
