Did you have an MP3 Player?

I was the sort of person growing up that if my brothers didn't want something, they would just give it to me. Be like "Here you go Theriise, I don't want my marbles anymore." And I would just be like "Sure, just leave 'em over there." One of these things was my older brother's MP3 player. A no major brand one picked up at a computer market, and since I didn't know how to change the songs, it was Linkin Park and The Offspring on long car rides or nothing. This was a a time too where one song could take up the whole of your flip phone's memory.

I still have my 120GB Zune that I got one Christmas. Doesn't work given the dead battery, so I moved on to a 16GB model. Works well but it's limited in capacity. Went to a Sony Walkman model last year, but the bloat drove me crazy and I never figured out how to get the most out of it. Now I am experimenting with an LG V30.

After this, a series of iPods, replaced by iPhones. It was a pretty brief moment but I really cherish the memory of this thing, it was completely transformative. Loading the Sonic Adventure 2 vocal tracks on here as an 11 year-old, I felt like God

I've had many over the years, 1st gen iPod, generic thumbstick players, the one I probably used the most (if this counts) was my PSP lol, even late into 2016 I was still rocking it for everything.

I still have a love for old players, and sometimes I still use them when I want to go out without my phone, I've been using the Play-Yann Micro these days (Nintendo MP3 Player).

I had an iPod in my Acura Integra in the 2000's. I remember listening to a lot of From Autumn to Ashes, Bleeding Through, and Eighteen Visions on it in 2004-ish.

LG V30 MENTIONED

BROTHERRRRRRRRR

The LG v30 is so fucking based. It's honestly my own lil musical workstation away from home x3

@Cheeks To add on to the LG v30, I recommend getting the app USB Audio Player PRO.

It will make sure to bypass rescaling and play all of your music at the proper bit and sample rate <3

I just have the iPod Classic I still use regularly for focused music listening.
Just 3 of them and probably 2 iPod Nano's somewhere in the house. They're backups.

What's the internal amp/DAC like in these? I've always wondered if they can actually hold a candle to a proper setup. Can they drive a pair of headphones with heavy impedance?

They have a proprietary Quad DAC that's fucking nuts. Fully customizable decibel balancing, EQ mixing AND the best headphone jack ever.

I've raved about the LG v30 a lot on previous posts already but, the headphone jack is something special. It has variable wattage and changes the power output itself by some how magically detecting the impedance of any of the headphones I plug in.

For an example, the LG v30 has a sliding volume scale from 0-75. I run my DUNU SA6 IEMs (60ohms) at 21 on the volume level. For a MORE impressive feat, I'm able to run my Sennheiser HD600 headphones (300ohms) straight out of the phone at 42-46 on the volume level COMFORTABLY. No outside amplification needed.
Usually with my HD600's I need to use a big chonky amp to make them run properly, but the LG v30 just fucking runs them, and WELL.

Also the Quad DAC inside sounds amazing. Take this from someone with Synesthesia and perfect pitch, my music looks, sounds, and feels so fucking good coming out of this phone. It can even play back DSD encoded files NATIVELY, plus files encoded at 32bit float with up to a 384khz sample rate.

This phone is highly slept on. I believe with all my heart that it lives up and is on par with AT LEAST the greatest DAPs around the 500 dollar range.

I got mine for 54 dollars

Oh, how I miss these! Been using my phone to listening to music for a while, and it seems hellbent on making it a less enjoyable experience.

I have a phone loaded up with about 30 Gigs of local music and I have a Sony Discman but no standalone MP3 player.

My original MP3 player was a little stick thing that opened on one end for the USB. It could only hold a little music on it. I used to use Limewire to download songs for it. Had a lot of Powerglove, Black Mages, OCRemix, Vomitron, anime stuff like FLCL, .Hack//SIGN, Naruto, and Bleach, the South Park Chef Aid album, Bone to Pick by The Gone Jackals, Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix (it was a few songs here n there)

Memories, you're speaking my language 😭

My very first mp3 player was one of those early creative(?) stick thingies with something like 256 mb of storage. I hadn't fully grasped ripping cds or p2p yet so I remember having to record things from radio on it at first. It was still crazy cool compared to skipping cds and limited capacity with portable cd players.
Also not sure why I didn't just rip mp3s on it at first since I'm pretty sure I had mp3 cds figured out at that point. Maybe. It's been a while.
