Yes, I'm extremely nostalgic for early aughts tech, mostly because smartphones have completely wiped it off the map.

I still have my first MP3 player, bought after painstakingly saving up absurdly low amounts of cash (down to individual cents!) from my after school job handing flyers. It was AMAZING being able to control which songs played and how often.

What about you?

I got one about a month ago. It's a yellow one from China that looks like an iPod, holds about 120gb of music. The earphones that came with it suck, but i can just use my own headphones for it. It also has a speaker so you can listen to it without them.

SO COOL! I'm subbing-in an old phone for my MP3 player these days and I wish it could hold that many songs.

First I had a Sony discman that I'd listen to burned mixed CDs of Iron Maiden and Finger Eleven on, just had to reference how unfortunately old I am.

I was always really behind the mp3 player curve, as the only one I ever had was a 2nd generation clip on iPod Shuffle, the ones without a screen. I was still using it well after smartphones came out and somehow thought I was really cool with it clipped onto my shirt sleeve.

I had one that i took from my big sister drawer when she moved to another city. I lost it a long time ago and i can't remember the name or the brand, just that it was black with a small screen like those of the old nokias. When music was playing, a little man would start doing michael jackson moves on the screen. At the time, i didn't know how to acquire more music so my other sister loaded it with like 12 songs and i listened to them on repeat for god knows how long.

Although having phones is more convenient, mp3s had a special charm to them.

I had an Ipod Shuffle. 1st gen.
Is still have it and it still works and it still has the same songs from when i bought it in.

It looks like this:

I generally don't buy Apple.
But back then there was a contest on an online game called..."Last Chaos" (A lineage 2 ripoff basically)
And that was the prize. You had to be the highest level by certain date.
And i played day and night all day to get that shit (i had nothing to do)
Until one day i got sick of it, quit and just bought one.
lol...so sad.

EDIT: I found the winners of the ipods https://web.archive.org/web/20070103102115/http://lastchaos.aeriagames.com/node/137

I found myself in the rankings...I was tied first ffs

I couldn't spell "Juste" hahahahahah

I gotta admit, that made me laugh.

I was really expecting you to say you actually won it, and I was already impressed.
But then you went and dropped that bomb. Haha

But wow, still impressive that you tied first though!

I still use MP3 Players, mainly for my car. Even though I have a SiriusXM subscription, every now and then I like to listen to some video game soundtracks

This is the MP3 player I use. It was recommended to me and I really like it. Even when you have it set to "Repeat 1" you can still skip to the next song. Also the battery surprisingly lasts a long time unplugged. The only thing I could do without is the FM Tuner.

Back in the day I used to have an iPod that I one day decided to hack RockBox into. I gave it to my mom, but the thing is so old, the battery eventually gave out so it doesn't work anymore.

Several. They died on me like flies. The only one that managed to survive a couple of years was the ipod nano I got for christmas once. The display stopped working but you can still play the files when you connect it to a computer.
I think I slightly preferred my discman that could play mp3 cds. Kind of the best of both worlds.

I think the only mp3 player I ever bought was the Creative Zen Nano. I only used it when I went jogging or to the gym. I'm not ashamed to say that I had the Final Fantasy 7 battle theme in my workout playlist 😅

Holy frickkin crap that thing brings back memories.

I still use MP3 players because I love how tiny they are and that they dont drain my phones battery. Theyre also stinking cheap from aliexpress'

Only one I ever owned was a couple of Sandisk Sansa Clip Plus(s) w/ Rockbox firmware

Today, I don't do audio streaming at all even as I type this on a desktop gaming PC and own a iPhone 15. I listen to a ton of podcasts and music by downloading mp3s even using apps like 4kvideodownloaderplus to convert videos into mp3s.

My mp3 player of choice now is a Samsung Galaxy 5s. It has a lot of features our older mp3 players did not like Bluetooth and a replaceable battery. This older android phone still has an audio jack as well.

I currently own a AGPTEK 64GB MP3 Player with Clip because I don't want to be dependant on a phone nor iTunes.

I used to own an iPod Shuffle (2nd gen) but lost it.

Technically I can see videos (in .amv) but in such a low quality that it makes me nostalgic haha! I can also put a book in it (but you can hardly read).

I also prefer physical buttons over touch controls and I appreciate the navigation and files (and radio).
