This is our thread to help each other to get some relief from that mental agony of when you miss a game from the good old times, but can't remember its name!!!

To organize it a bit, I think we can agree with some rules for asking and for answering.

Asking: Describe the game as much as possible for you. Mechanics, character design, scenarios, visual style and stuff. It's even better, in case you have searched for it a lot before, to add a little list of titles you already removed from the horizon of possibilities.

Answering: Preferably don't just throw a name and go away. Justify why are you relating the game asked with the title you're suggesting and always add screenshots illustrating it! We know how images are what clicks the "omg that's it!!!" in us.

Have fun!

I know the image is merely an exhibit and not areal question but if someone is sincerely unable to tell what that game is, it’s Dig Dug

ok here we go i believe it was on the ps1 90% sure but the graphics were reminiscent of a snes game so maybe snes. it was your standard rpg nothing special from what i remember except you either rescued or collected fairy's and the game had a village building sim for a fairy village

I'm not entirely sure if Breath of Fire 3 had a fairy village (now I gotta replay it lol) but 4 most definitely did.

There was a Sega MegaDrive game which i played once in house of a relative when i was a kid, it was so cool! i searched almost all mega drive games but to no avail!

What I remember:
It was a kind of dark-fantasy themed platformer with graphics almost in similar style with castlevania bloodlines.
The player should attack enemies with weapon or magic and goes through levels which as far as i remember was side-scrolling, but like castlevania, we could need to go up and down too (by jumping over ledges)...
One notable thing which i remember about (i guess first level) was a giant skull in ground, which we should jump over it and it was always hard to do so! and there was a (green?) river flowing down like acid or something... which we shouldn't fall in it...
Another notable thing was that at start of game, we could choose from Two playable character, one was a warrior-like man which i don't remember much about him... but second was a magician man, and one notable thing about him which i clearly remember, is that whenever leave him to be idle for a while, he would draw something like ship wheel with magical fire in air! it was cool!
this is as much as i remember... thanks in advance.

Checked it right now, certainly a cool game! but doesn't seem to be the one i was talking about... and there seem to be only one playable character. Thanks anyway!

Another thing which i think remember about it was that it supported six-buttons controllers! but maybe i'm wrong, because i have looked every games which supported six-button controllers and not found it...

This one has me stumped. I can't really think of any title that would fit all of your criteria. The closest ones that come to mind would be:
Blades of Vengeance

and Cadash
cadash.png

but somehow I don't think it's either of those.

Yep, I already checked them both, and neither were the one... Thanks for answering anyway!

Hm... a sports arcade game that I played in the nineties in the bar near my house: a sort of 1 vs 1 Frisbee challenge on a tennis-type court, view from above, with bizarre challengers, each with a special technique. Never found the title in all these years. I underline that it is not Windjammers for Neo Geo, despite being similar. Can you help me? Otherwise, who cares! I will survive anyway. 🤣

Haven't played the game for a while so not sure if it fits everything in your description but... Shadow Blasters ?

Edit : ok nope, this game has 4 playables characters.

If anyone might be interested :

EDIT 2: Wait, I think I know! Is it Battle Flip Shot on Neo-Geo? It's a Windjammers clone that meets all your criteria!

yes, it wasn't... but thanks for answer, and the game seems to be good too.
As a side note, i'm pretty sure there wasn't samurai or ninja or such...

Dang I can't find the game JustLooking123 is looking for, we can't let it end like this guys ::lol

Looking for it made me remember this pretty good game

Thanks! and the game you mentioned (Dahna: Megami Tanjou) seems to be cool!
Well, I just spent the last few hours watching youtube compilations of all megadrive games (or at least the uploaders said so). I looked up similar compilations for the MegaCD and 32X as well just in case and I still couldn't find anything that would nail your description down to a T. Granted, those compilations show 10 seconds of gameplay for each game at most so chances are I simply missed it but I'm still pretty dejected about the whole affair. Here are a few names that cropped up that might be the game you're looking for:

Jewel Master
Mystic Defender
Risky Woods
Saint Sword
Sword of Sodan

Please excuse the lack of screencaps but 1) these games are your-description-adjacent at best in my opinion and 2) I'm dead tired and my body demands sleep

If none of these are the thing we're looking for then I'm not really sure what to do. Downloading a romset and ripping and tearing through each game one by one might work but I don't think I'm loco enough to give it a go. Not tonight anyways.

Woah! I'm speechless! Thank you very much for such an epic effort! but unfortunately none of them was it...
At this rate, I wonder if it can be found even in romsets, because many games i had played when i was kid cannot be found easily anymore... fortunately i found most of them, some were very rare! like Bruce Lee game for NES, but i was able to find it by pure luck!

This game seems to be only game from my childhood times which i never found...

EDIT: While there's a possibility that the game i'm looking for to be a bootleg, but i don't think it to be, the quality was just too high for it to be bootleg... so maybe there's a hope?

Do you remember the year? even a rough estimate might help narrow it down. I don't think I've ever seen a game like the one you describe, despite growing up with a Megadrive.

Nahhh... I forgot to mention that it's vertical, player below, challenger above. It seems to me that each challenger had a different sporting instrument (ping pong racket, tennis racket, baseball bat, hockey stick, etc.) and the type of ball also changed at each stage. I also remember multiple challengers at the same time on the same team (volleyball team?), perhaps towards the end. The aim was to throw the ball behind the challengers, beyond the screen.
Nahh... I assure you I didn't dream it! 😅

Slap shot was an arcade game that kind of sounds like what you are describing?
