Bring back the Ban

This place keeps letting the worst scumbag users get off scot-free for continuously breaking the extremely easy to follow rules, spreading vitriol and poison everywhere and at most getting away with a slap on the wrist, only to re-emerge a week later spewing drunken rants breaking rules left and right.

I’d say ”don’t feed the trolls” but the way the site is set up right now it’s like they’re being fed by design, and the rest of us are forced to just look the other way while trying to use the forum like normal people.

The mods are powerless to do nearly anything and keep getting the brunt of the flak because Spike doesn’t want to deal with the occasional angry email from disgruntled ex-members threatening to ”take action”.

This weak Reader Mode shit clearly isn’t working, and just lets toxic assholes keep waltzing around barfing everywhere, and just pushes more and more well-meaning and amiable users out because the trolls and schizos overpower them, and protects the worst offenders from any sort of repercussions.

New members can't make profile posts if they don't reach a certain threshold of interaction in the forums. I think your suggestion is way too harsh if we think about the whole purpose of the forums, but we could like raise the threshold at level 0 for one to be able to unlock profiles? Most drama happens either in profile posts or in already restricted areas of the forums to newcomers.

Exactly. We could raise the threshold for one to be able to reach level 1 (english is not my first lang, so I don't know if I was able to properly express the idea).

Trolling is one thing but calling others names just because you don’t agree with them is another. I’m not gonna say names but I’ve been called out previously. I just posted/shared a video to fellow enjoyer of the same content(it’s not even offensive mind you) . Out of the blue he called that content creator a grifter and started calling us names before putting us in Ignore. We are just enjoying ourselves but he/she came in like we pissed on her coffee or something when it’s clearly that we don’t even know why that person is triggered.

A one week wait limit to be able to post for new members. New account? Sorry, gotta wait a week to post.

y'know I don't with I ever ended up giving my opinion on the whole ban/rule enforcement thing, not that it's worth much. Was to distracted with all the other shenanigans going on there.

Anyway way here it is. I think the mods do a pretty good job keeping this place under control, but if they think reintroducing bans will help them then I'm all for it. I have been unlucky enough to see a lot of the drama that happens around here, but you gotta be quick. Mods usually take care of it pretty fast. My only real concern is that the types of people who deserve a ban are pretty dedicated. There's nothing really stopping them from just coming back and starting all over. The countless free VPNs would be more than enough to get around an IP ban.

I know the whole situation relates to another post oriented towards politics (with representatives in that and the talk of ongoing world conflicts) starting the flames, tho. But not really sure. Maybe we just need to figure out the balance to de-escalate the sort of situations, so perhaps this is all about rule enforcement at the end.
