Bring back the Ban

This place keeps letting the worst scumbag users get off scot-free for continuously breaking the extremely easy to follow rules, spreading vitriol and poison everywhere and at most getting away with a slap on the wrist, only to re-emerge a week later spewing drunken rants breaking rules left and right.

I’d say ”don’t feed the trolls” but the way the site is set up right now it’s like they’re being fed by design, and the rest of us are forced to just look the other way while trying to use the forum like normal people.

The mods are powerless to do nearly anything and keep getting the brunt of the flak because Spike doesn’t want to deal with the occasional angry email from disgruntled ex-members threatening to ”take action”.

This weak Reader Mode shit clearly isn’t working, and just lets toxic assholes keep waltzing around barfing everywhere, and just pushes more and more well-meaning and amiable users out because the trolls and schizos overpower them, and protects the worst offenders from any sort of repercussions.

The biggest mistake was binding a repo full of copyrighted files to the forum. Instead of pushing the repo underground, Spike just encouraged bad faith users to hold the threat of legal action over his head.

Video games are art and some art has very complex, mature, or outright adult themes spanning many aspects of life and society, plus there are sections of the site for other kinds of discussion as well. That said, I understand your concern about minors getting wrapped up in lewd conversations. I don't think all discussion of romance, LGBTQ+, or gender expression are 18+, but there are definitely things I avoid discussing with minors, like explicit discussions of fucking. There's a difference between "I think these two video game characters are cute together and I like how their designs play with gender norms." and "pingas pingas pingas these two video game characters should fuck and please let me join them for a threesome sex sex penis sex." For the most part I think this site's userbase is pretty good at avoiding discussing the latter with known or suspected minors, but there are cases where a line is crossed.

This precisely was what I was getting at, you know. I may have missed the mark more than you did, but that was the point I was making. I really think that if any users here are indeed engaging with a minor in belowboard talk, they are either hiding it ungodly well, the kid isn't saying anything, or it outright isn't happening. And I would like to think the latter is true. I could be wrong, but I really don't think there's some pedophile user going around chatting up younger users, we would have had a report at least of it, I would think.

My suggestion would be to spend less time online. I get that people like being online a lot, but it has downsides. Protect your own wellbeing because you cannot rely on mods for that. If you are online less, you will not even notice most of this drama. I am reading about things I have never seen before.

Honestly ZZ, it isn't anyone's business except for G.L.a.D.O.S' account holder and the mod team.

We don't usually openly discuss moderation actions with anyone other than the parties involved. Suffice to say it was a decision made collectively by the mod team in response to a recent action by their account holder.
