" Boomer Shooter " thread

My parents were also boomers and its really not that deep dude. boomer has become short hand for old in general because of other memes. its not literal.
Let's not rekindle that useless debate, shall we?

I hate all you and anyone that applies "Boomer" to Generation X. The real Boomers were our parents
you dumb shits. What if we call Gen Alpha generation asshole. Or the Millennials the dipshits that do face humor on tic-toc all day. Wait those last two were right. Baby Boomers were born from 1946- 1964

I saw that steam offer for free marathon 1 and 2. As anybody played them? They feel very old school.

OH YES PLAY THEM ALL THE LORE IS SO GOOD AND EVERYTHING IN THAT GAME IS PERFECT

Besides the lack of music in the second and third game

Is 'Mouse: P.I. For Hire' a boomer shooter? Also, not to prod this debate but half of us millennials also have boomer parents. Boomer and millennial cover timespans that are way too large to have any shared cultural identity between us, it's kind of meaningless a label in practice. Gen X and Gen Z have more clear culture/formative experiences.

So if my generation is Gen X, than what would my father's be called?

No, Gen X's parents are called "baby boomers"

I've literally just beaten the first level of DUSK after seeing it was on sale on Steam right now for £6. So far, so awesome.

Its $20 here. oh are you using pound or quid or whatever? If you are in the UK i suggest you buy everything before Shotbolt's BS lawsuit shuts down Steam while Gabe Newell sails away on one of his mega yachts. If you live in UK contact Milberg London law firm and ask to opt-out.

The verdict may go either way, 615 million brits may get like 5 pounds and Vicki Shotbolt and Milberg may get their 15 minuites of fame. No matter what happens there will be one true fact...

this will be the UK gamers.

Legacy of Rust is a pain in the butt, man.
Each map feels like an entire Half Life chapter in lenght.

That's a given. But WTF name him (or her) Doomguy, I almost would of rather they were called
Harvey.
The most likely scenario is that he never had a name to begin with. Doomguy is probably a design document shorthand that stuck, kind of like how Cyrax was Mustard and Sektor was Ketchup internally.

Oh, I love me some boomshoots. Doom, DUSK, Blood, Ion Fury, Shadow Warrior, Wizordum, Amid Evil and Duke Nukem have all been mentioned already and all of which are killer games. Amid Evil and Ion Fury also have expansion packs/DLC that are pretty sweet too. For instance, Amid Evil: The Black Labyrinth's melee weapon is a pair of magic gauntlets that make your fists into the Fists of the North Star, which is sweet. Ion Fury: Aftershock has pilotable jet skis with guns attached to them, which is also sweet. At this point there are so many good retro FPS games it's kinda crazy. Never thought as many of the fever dream concepts for games I came up when I was a little kid like Paperhead would be brought into reality.

Oh, and there is also Quake, which has some particularly dope mods like Arcane Dimensions or Alkaline that are basically Quake sequels we never got. Seriously, those mods are that high quality. Further into mods, there's stuff like Ashes 2063 and Reds Over World for Doom that are TCs that turn it into their own unique flavors of boomshoot. Plenty of excellent mods for Blood and Duke Nukem 3D too, like Death Wish or Alien Armageddon.
"Unless it has PS1 style graphics, I'll play nearly anything with that."

Check out Lunacid:

The King's Field inspired game that's honestly better than King's Field
That's a really good retro themed game, but honestly it's about as far from a Boomer Shooter as you could get.
The new Starship troopers FPS look lit very 90s.
Yes, it does. They even got FMV cutscenes with Casper Van Diem, which is amazing:

I'm aware Lunacid is not a boomer shooter. Or even an FPS. It's more like a first person perspective real time action rpg I guess. I never said anything about it being a boomer shooter. I mentioned it because of what the person I replied to said. They said they'd play anything as long as it had PS1 looking graphics. I suggested they check it out since it's a good nostalgia inducing game with PS1 style graphics. I own or have played several of the games mentioned in this thread, so I'm fully versed on what it takes for a game to have the boomer shooter label.

They had a series of Doom paperback novels in the 90s. I believe they may have given DoomGuy an actual name in them, but I don't recall what it was. Of course the games would never reference from that little bit of lore. Although the novels were done officially and had the licensing and all that.
edit: his name was Flynn Taggart (good thing they never used it lol)

I've bought it for ~8€ myself.

In a way the Doom Marine (I think it's his official name in the manual) is fitting since he was actually doomed in the game.

Edit: his name is just "Marine" as it's his rank in the story. But doomguy/marine has a nice ring to it.

And Ermac was just the diminutive of Error Macro which is quite funny.

I miss when devs gave stilly names to their characters.

Flynn Taggart? I understand the need to give him a proper name for the story but I've never been fan of him having one because the Marine is supposed to be you in the original game.

I just tried one of the brutal doom mod.

People should always let the fans mod their games.

It's quite weird how this mod has realistic reflections and a different OST yet retains the blocky map design and the 2D enemies.

It almost feels like a different game.

At the end of DOOM II he is referred to as "THE DOOMED SPACE MARINE" which I really like as well.

Did you guys see this game has finally dropped after being teased a few years back?
