Is this in game? I don't recognise it!

Yeah it's from Curse Crackers: For Whom the Belle Toils, very fun platformer with god-tier music and art, but with flawed level design imo. I personally did not care about the story, but there is a metric ton of hidden lore behind the scenes if you are willing to look for it in the game. It also shares it's universe with other games from the same developer.

Trini's unmorphed sprite in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on the SNES looks great and has cool animations. Her jumping animation is beautiful and her throws look really cool. Would have loved to have posted some gifs if I could actually find any on the useless internet.

Billy looks great too but in a comical, goofy way

Sketch Turner looks cool and animates well

B.B. Hood. I like twisted takes on fairy tales

Lilith is another Darkstalkers fave, she's so much fun to watch

Earthworm Jim is classic

Battletoads with their crazy attack animations

Batman in The Adventures of Batman and Robin on the SNES. His grabs, the flowing cape, awesome stuff

It is not a sprite art per se, but sprite style, I love 32-bit pixel art specially when made in 3d consoles, like the following, I don't know, but low poly environment with pixel art characters and details gives a mystical tone to it.

2d models on a 3d backgrounds/ environments = win. Breath of Fire 3/4, Strider 2, Tomba, Persona 1 and 2 (both parts), Xenogears, Tales of Destiny directors cut, panzer bandit, mad stalker (PS1) there's loads. Quite a few strategy RPGs did it on PS1 too, and they all look great and stand the test of time because of the pixel art being solid.

I was looking to see how long it would take for SNK to show up! Some of the best Sprite art ever made comes from the MVS board and its imitators.

(This gif is terrible, and I wanted Samurai Showdown stuff, but I’ll take what I can get here.)

I don’t think enough loves comes for cutscenes without much animation, but bold colors and detailed spritework that imitates cel animated anime.

Darkstalkers 3/Vampire Savior has some amazing sprite work as well. I love the expressive, cartoony way all the characters are animated in that. I rarely hear any appreciation for the stage sprites though, outside of Fetus of God (For obvious reasons lol), but they're really impressive as well and very atmospheric.

Arabian Fight is a SEGA developed arcade game that never got a home port. If it had gotten one, it would have a much bigger fan base, because this game is absolutely gorgeous.

An example of a sprite scaler on the same hardware that managed to get a fandom despite no home port, however, was the incredible Jurassic Park. It’s like an amusement park ride gone wild!
