Realism practice is beyond me, but looks alright so far. I hope I never ever look this old


Recently finished an anime called Garou, was hard to resist not drawing certain characters. Just wanted to do it super quick.

I don't mean to show off, but I've been doing making custom FF6/FFRK sprites for a while.
I haven't had anyone that I know to show to, but I feel like these are some of my best works:

(Yep, a WoW Undead and a WoW Troll. However, the Troll is wearing things you could find in WoW but has a modified hair while I made up the coat, gloves, and glasses for the Undead.
Though, there is one more (out of the four) who is based on another game. Hint: It's a universe of 4 games and only 3 are portable.)

To me, I'm still more of a junior in pixel art but I feel like I can go bigger.
I'm really not sure if I should ask for help or suggestions as though I might do better by myself but I'm open to opinions.
Just don't be so harsh or rude, I have a personal bully to endure with.

I think these look great. It would be easier to offer useful criticism if they were in game, scaled to the appropriate size. I'm not exactly sure what the top left is, but the other are pretty recognizable.

View attachment 109312You have too many color for a single sprite. You can reduce it down to 2 - 3 by getting rid of colors that are similar to each other.

These look cool tho. very detail with the amount of pixels going on here

Top left...? You mean the lizardman knight (Yvon)?

I coated him with armor that I think is suitable to a lizardman, but I gave him some cloth clothing inside the armor. It was inspired by Soul Calibur 3's character creation where you can place something like "Noble Clothing" inside any armor plate.

Yvon's cloth clothing extends up to his shoulders and there's even some cloth on his gauntlets and a cloth tail on his helmet, though I do think that his helmet isn't as detailed as what's below it, but I still find it as one of my more impressive and important early works that push me forward.

I don't know, I like giving complex details for the sprites to match them to what I think when it comes to them (at least, for my OCs) but nonetheless it's still good advice.

Ah ok, my first guess was lizardman but I wasn't sure so I didn't want to assume. I take that back, it is recognizable. Maybe make the helmet smaller so the face is more defined? IDK. I'm not a pixel art expert.

Mostly from figure drawings, cosplays etc, i usually do lots of drawings from my head or do tutorials as study practice.

Reference drawing is top notch practice for anyone trying to level up imo. Last year for inktober I did basically a whole month of study, and the time I spent on figure & gesture drawing was invaluable.

Combining studies with drawing from imagination is what I'll do. Alternate between both. Getting the knowledge about the body is important and also figuring out how to apply it and where more study is needed. I already know I need to practice more hands, I haven't figured out how to draw them yet.
