Anyone currently reading comics?

@Gorse Thank you!

Ironically, Happily Married, Responsible Adult Peter Parker is the star of the show in the new Ultimate Spider-Man series. It's been a massive success, consistently in the top 3 best sellers every month, a book where an almost 40 year old Peter Parker has a wife (MJ) and two kids, and then finds out he was meant to be Spider-Man.

Actually, aside from big debut's of the new X-Men lineup, I think it's been Marvel's best selling ongoing series.

Thorny topic,

To say the least ::lol

With "Sins Past", Gwen was out of the country for like a year with Osborn, and then came back and started dating Peter if I remember right. (It's been like 20 years though, so if anyone's read it more recently please correct me.)

Oh ok I thought she was already dating him. TBH I don't mind that much, the whole plot is creepy, but it's interesting to know they made sure to not make her a cheater.

(I think the major motivation to undo that is usually to let him flirt with Black Cat guilt-free.)

They wanted Spider-Man to be relatable for the younger readers, and Marvel thought him being married didn't help.

The Terrible Dilemma of mainstream superhero comics, endlessly trying to find a young audience.

One of my favorite attempts was with Iron Man back in the 90's, he became a villain doing Kang's bidding for a time, and I think it was the Avengers who have the bright idea to "Fight fire with YOUNGER fire." and bring a teenage Tony forward in time to stop his adult self. Old Man Stark dies, and Iron Man is now a high schooler running a major corporation like he's in a Jonathan Taylor Thomas movie. It was so unpopular they had Onslaught change reality just for him, and everyone pretended it never happened.

I have been reading as manga as well finally got around to reading berserk in the 200s of chapters. I highly recommend.

I've just finished reading Run Day Burst so I don't know what to read next.

Maybe I'd continue Assassination Classroom, Dr. Slump or even trying to read the Black Jack stories I've missed.

The last series I read was Road to Perdition. Loved it. Before that, The Boys, and I needed a long shower afterwards. :ROFLMAO:
I don't know how I've never heard Road to Perdition was a graphic novel before, wow. Really enjoyed the movie, I need to read it now.

For now I am Reading the Energon Universe View attachment 2881
Energon Universe got me back reading comics regularly again.

After decades of being a marvel guy, I dipped out of reading anything they did entirely. (not for any content reason) I just felt like Secret Wars ending was a nice jumping off point back in the day and just never bothered reading what happened after. Something about how DWJ handled the first arc of Transformers just got me hooked, I binged the first arc of void rivals in one sitting. I feel like they handle G1 really well. I get the people wanting to see more 'new' stuff but I am enjoying the slower pace, taking its time with the characters from early G1

It led me to check out what other stuff is going on, really enjoying Something is Killing the Children at the moment.

I really should get more into Moebius because I love his style (RIP).

Especially when games and movies get inspired by it.

I was thinking of Incal.
I know one movie that was inspired;

Boy, but the run up to Secret Wars was a slog to get through at the time, especially the main Avengers title. The series itself was surprisingly good though, with a terrific ending! So, so, few of the big "event" books can actually say that, and they felt like a required evil for Marvel comics in particular for a number of years. You had to know what happened because they were changing the status quo of major characters and the setting, but how they got there was never a fun ride. (Secret Invasion being maybe the lowest point, for me personally)

I'm about to start reading Rare Flavors, I need to get more of Ram V's writing after finishing his phenomenal Gotham Nocturne story in Detective Comics, but Something is Killing the Children is on the list shortly after. I've heard nothing but praise!

Damn, just read Jason Aaron's Scalped today, about as gritty as a comic can get without being ridiculous. Just an excellent book, with the most "new HBO rated R prestige series" first issue ever. Just blood, guts, ass and titties, and a killer hook to bait you to watch the rest.

I'm currently reading Grimm Fairy Tales by Zenescope Entertainment in Chronological Reading Order.
Guessing that'll be a good long read, that thing must have ran forever. I kept seeing new issues at various comic shops for ages. (Hard to miss with those covers)

I've been reading Dai Dark and Aposimz?

Not really sure if they count as "comics" though.

Otherwise my dad bought me a 2000 AD omnibus but I've not gone through it just yet.

@ATenderLad Excellent write-up! This is why I just read comics about giant robots punching each other.

I really do feel for Spider-Man fans, because I know One More Day was a massive, controversial thing, too. From the standpoint of Marvel's editorial team, though, I'm sure the idea of "happily married, responsible adult Peter Parker" doesn't seem too appealing as a selling point for their children's comic book.

I'm not really familiar enough with the character to understand whether or not this makes sense narratively, but I hope the current team is able to resolve things in a way that doesn't drive their fanbase too nuts. Peter's Spider-Man seems to be getting the shaft a lot, nowadays...
eh... Marvel in general have not really been bringing their A game for a while now.

A comic, by any other name, so on and so forth.

That's a pretty great gift on your old mans part, and yeah Marvel doesn't have a deep "roster" of hits right now, with Immortal Thor being, I think, the only major standout.

Oh, I used to read a lot, day and night, or at least it was like that before going to university, xD
In addition to reading the ones I create, here are some titles that I always recommend when this topic comes up:

However, the last book I readed was "The Institute" by Stephen King. Nice, and heavy like all his books.

Loved reading through this thread, brought a little metaphorical tear to my eye. I don't read ongoing comics anymore, but I keep up with them as they happen through the grapevine. I think the last thing I actually read as it was happening was Superior Spider-Man, which I think by the end at least was a great story.
I do have a pretty big collection of my old stuff still, but mostly stick to paperbacks now; I'd rather go for the self contained collected runs and stories then read ongoing.
I've been going through Essential Moon Knight again the last few nights, love the OG series back when he was just an adventuring mercenary before they fleshed out the whole 'resurrected by an Egyptian god' backstory- also, the crossovers with Werewolf by Night and that classic Don Perlin art ?.

Been reading the new Conan comics that Titan has been putting out. Rob De La Torre's art is amazing.

Aside from that also been reading through the entirety of Dragon Ball and am currently on the Android saga.
I really should read the books myself.

I'm planning on reading the Turok comics.

Enjoy, I really liked the Android Saga, you also liked the pre-Raditz arrival part?

Yeah, loved the pre-Raditz stuff especially the tournament arcs. The Jackie Chun fight in particular was awesome. Reading the manga made me love the fast pace at which the action moves especially since the anime has caused the series to become a meme for its fights taking 30 episodes.

Figured I'd drop a photo of my very messy and old particle board bookshelf and my comic collection.

Managed to find my old long boxes in the back of my closet, complete with some old box art I did when I was probably a very young lad. Also, if you can't tell I really liked Moon Knight.

Maybe I'll go through the longboxes and see what I find. It's probably going to be a lot of 90's X-Men and Moon Knight, that much I know already.
