CachyOS is good for people who want Arch but don't want to deal with Arch's bullshit.

That's how I see it anyways.
I have not tried Cachy, but yea, I have really enjoyed all the arch based distros I have tried; it doesn't surprise me they are all great. Garuda is what I currently use.

Debian based always would give me a headache eventually...
But on my Laptop I use Linux mint xfce as the XFCE is very good version to use for older tech like my 2013 Sony vaio.
xfce ::heart I'm not a big fan of mint though >_>

linux mint cinnamon on my gaming pc
and fedora on my laptop

Linux Mint laptop, use it mostly for old games on a crt vga monitor with custom resolutions below 640x400

I don´t mind mint it works and is light wight. The distro I want is well not meant for normal use that much.

Switching to Linux could be a good move if you’re looking for more freedom and customization. Windows has become more streamlined over the years, but that’s also meant fewer options for tailoring the system to your preferences. Linux offers a wide range of distributions and desktop environments, so you can choose the setup that fits your style and workflow. It does take some getting used to, but many people find the flexibility and control worth the transition.

UEI just want to start using Linux because I love programming, and I'm going to start because Windows isn't interesting anymore; it just has the same work-related things and offers you Office every day to pay for it.There are several advertisements here.

Linux is a good choice for programming because it gives you more control and fewer distractions than Windows. You are not pushed toward ads or paid tools, and you can set up your system the way you like. It takes a little time to adjust, but many developers find it worth it.

ObrigadoThank you, I'm already planning to use the version you recommended for the basic version.I just want to put up my wallpaper, which I've already picked out.I want to use my own configuration system.

Since getting my Steam Deck learning Linux has been awesome. I don't really care too much about learning OS systems because if it doesn't plug and play i just leave it. But installing emulators. Learning the coding and other things for emulation has been therapeutic to be honest. I spend more time learning to get things working then actually playing. And honestly it feels more rewarding.

Learn Linux and have a great time just absorbing the material

That’s great. One of the best things about Linux is being able to set it up the way you like. Adding your wallpaper and configuration is a good start to make it feel personal. As you get used to it, you’ll discover plenty of tools to customize your workflow even more.

UEI'm going to start using Linux and I'm already planning to learn programming. My teacher gave me a great free computer programming course that Microsoft offers.

UEI don't know if it's worth it for me to start using it, since Windows hasn't been very interesting for a long time and has stopped having many good customization options.
OK.

You will suffer a lot if you do not have any basic idea of "partitions and how to install without erasing Windows". But if I made that, by my own, a lot of time ago... you can. Now it seems Linux has a lot of support for gaming, in fact, thanks to Valve and many other anonymous people. So... it's even more interesting.

And after that first "little" pass, you maybe would have some problems with some drivers, so for this, I will recommend you "Linux Mint" as your first new distro, with some "private" plugins supported and good drivers support.
Other distros can be a pain in the ass for a new user because of that kind of "private shit" we don't even know, but we use everyday (Linux Debian, for example, is great, but too pure... and have this kind of problems. Debian is a distro for philosophical "free software" purists. Mint is based on Debian, but for a common user, so, no problems as those).

But this is just an opinion, you can choose OpenSUSE, Arch, Ubuntu... or whatever you want. Maybe now there are better distros for the new people, who knows.

If you achieve to beat the BIG BOSS of "entering in Linux world", you will be a lot free and happy to conquer that achievement the rest of your life. And you will learn HOW to configure and do amazing things with your desktop and graphical interface. Especially if you are young.

That's the real moment to learn how to escape from Windows,
and learn something about: Linux, the old Unix systems (from Linux is just a complete free spin-off), and few Linux/Unix-like Command Line crap, which are very useful from time to time and makes you understand a lot better how an effing Operative System works (Windows and MacOS just makes people dumb).

OK.

Principalmente se você for jovem.

ObrigadoThanks for the idea, I really need to change my Windows because I don't like it anymore and I o switch to the Linux side.

Good move, welcome to the based club

You will have a blast, even when you mess up (like when I deleted my Desktop environment or my SBBM... ahhh arch, never change)

SteamOs on my deck ofc..

But Arch (btw) on my main desktop, been using it for more than a year now, and I honestly dont know if I ever can go back to Windows (as a main personal machine ofc, on the job all corporate laptops are W11 sadly)

MasBut is it worth it? I really want to test it so I can switch from Windows 10, which won't be updated anymore, to Linux.

I think this meme encapsulate it perfectly (I only found a green background version)

It is worth it, not only the freedom of not depending on whatever the current corporate overlord want to push at the moment, specially in this time of AI and machine learning or ads. But the systems are not holding your hand, I would say it is really like owning a computer on the late 90s or mid 2000s, you will find problems and you will have to face them and solve them yourself.

It can be frustrating, specially in the beginning, but you will learn a lot about computer in general, and also be part of a group of users that do a lot for each other. I mean, just a couple of days ago a game on Steam released and it was broken on proton, so a user make a fork of proton fixing this issue and now it works flawlessly.

I switched from Windows 10 to Bazzite (a distro that's based on Fedora, I believe). It's very easy to use, very user friendly. At first I had worse performance than on Windows, but after downloading LACT (a tool for the GPU) and using these settings, most games work the same or better:

ObrigadoThanks, I'll start using it. I'll just grab a USB drive and install my Linux. I already know which one I'll use: Linux Mint. It's just my personal preference; I love programming and I want to learn how to do it. My teacher gave me a Microsoft course that he recommended.

Os principaisThe main reasons I want to switch to Linux are because I'm entering a computing career and I'm going to take a free course at Microsoft.

I'm sort of in the same boat. While I was in University I used Ubuntu for ages, and these days I get quite a kick out of using a command line/terminal.

Considering how quickly Windows is going south, I've been tempted to install a linux distro on my main PCs quite a few times.

I think I'm just waiting for something to push me over the edge. The inconvenience of re-installing my OS can only be superseded by some huge inconvenience of keeping my current OS, so until that happens I'm maintaining the status quo.

MasBut is it worth it? I really want to test it so I can switch from Windows 10, which won't be updated anymore, to Linux.
You can totally install a Linux system in a new partition, in the very same Hard Disk (or a second Hard drive, if you have 2, as you like) in your computer. So, you'll still have Windows anyways if you want.

You just have to decide the space every system will have inside the same Hard Drive.

You ALSO could create a third other partition (or as many as you want, but don't be silly, don't create too many partitions for just 1 user, really) to be used by both systems. Because normally, Linux will always see the Windows partition and use is as a normal one, but Windows, by default, would not see a partition of Linux at all (there are third party programs to do that in Windows, but... although some times I used them, I prefer to not, just in case).

So maybe is interesting to do a third one to have some "neutral space", made in some Microsoft filesystems like NTFS or old FAT32/exFAT, to help you to move "some content" from Windows to Linux, without the need to reboot the PC and start Linux. (Linux uses different filesystems by default, like "ext4", which is the most used in the Linux world. Do NOT expect Windows recognize those ones by default. And do NOT install Linux in NFTS or FAT partitions... yes you can do that, but, just don't do that. They are MS filesystems, just escape from those if you really want to be free).

In any case, if you install Linux without erasing Windows, you will get a "loader" every time you start the PC, just to select what system you want to start (basically a loader like GRUB 2.x, or another one. I always used GRUB because my favorite distros installed always GRUB and configured it themselves during the installation of Linux, correctly detecting all the Operative System in the PC).
