Any Dead or Alive fans here? No? Oh wait there's one, way in the back I see you!

I knew that DoA existed for many years but never really mind it tbh.

This all changed a couple of years ago when I bought a dreamcast and, while searching for games to buy, I saw the disc of the jp 'special edition' of DoA 2, and I knew I had to get it. At least for the lols

And oh God the game is amazing! I love it beyond all the fan service and hot girls. Is such and amazing game. So I jumped the wagon and get DoA 6 for the Xbox One and it is amazing too! Im really happy we are getting 'Last Round', and I do hope that they dont screw it over.

Emulating the Dreamcast port of DoA2 circa 2008 cured me of my hatred for 3D fighters. I can't remember exactly what it was that made me try it. I think it was the ability to transition from one part of a stage to another by throwing your opponent off a ledge and damaging them in the process.

I've played and enjoyed other 3D fighters since but DoA2 was the game that opened that floodgate for me. In the end, it turned out that I didn't hate 3D fighters at all. I just hated Tekken.

The only things which make me love DOA series less than your generic fighting games are the existence of both DOA6 + Venus Vacation and how 3&4 are gated behind Xbox.

I love DOA2 so much, I remember picking that up for the Dreamcast, visuals truly wowed my mummified socks off back then, feels like so long ago now....ancient Egyptian times indeed.

I played DOA2 sometimes during 2021 and then Dimensions on the 3DS since apparently it sums up the story between 2-4. Dimensions was probably a good game but I felt like I was too depressed to appreciate how cool it was. Also there’s the beach games, but after trying the PSP one I was meh about it. Still like DOA2 the most I guess.

BTW @WokiBakoki, don't forget that we have a new title coming out sometime next year.

This is my first time seeing this, I don't follow gaming news... Whaaaat! That's awesome. I mean, I'm not gonna be able to play it (no PS5) but if there was ever a time to challenge Tekken for it's spot as one of the big fighters it's now. If the DLC was super cheap for bundles of stuff instead of being a virtual mall like 6, as well as just omitting any battle pass bullshit. We could be in for a historical comeback. It won't happen... Of course it won't. But a boy can dream. Thanks for showing that off.

Where Xtreme?
Never properly sat down and done a play through of any of them. Needs to change some day but we did have the first one around the house when I was a little boy.

As someone who only played the DOA series very recently and fell in love with it why are most of the opinions of DOA6 are so negative is it just due to microtransactions or does the gameplay take a hit after DOA5LR?

I was so excited when I heard that DOA6 will be getting a last round and I'm planning to buy it day 1 cuz honestly the series kinda reignited my spirit and passion for fighting games, in general before DOA I was excited for MarvelTokon seeing how any Arc system games are so fire, but now I'm more excited for DOA6 Last round much much more than Tokon

It's so funny seeing other people exposure to the series is close to (let's try it for shit and giggles) then they all universally get shocked by how behind the fan service actually lies a very good and goated fighting game ::smirk1

90% was due to microtransactions, and 10% because the gameplay felt a little worse compared to DOA5LR.

I'm looking forward to DOA6 Last round and MarvelTokon too.

DOA is a great fighting franchise and I love it's frenetic and deep gameplay. It's on my list of favorite fighting games along Mortal Kombat and Bloody Roar and my favorite DOA is 5.

I've always liked DOA. Played it since it started all those moons ago. Went out of my way to get DOA2 ultimate getting the OG XBox. Don't like it? It offends you? Piss off, don't tell me what I can and can't play.

Ever notice that the ones who bitch, are usually land whales with dyed hair? "It objectifies women like me! It's Offensive!" Oh yeah, like WHO'D EVER ASK YOU OUT? Fucking basics. Don't like it? Then fuck off and go watch paint dry while the rest of us can enjoy the game.

I really wish that Itagaki would have came back to course correct the series after 6 bombed.

Yes, its scantly dressed women beating the hell out of one another, doing painful looking bone breaks and hitting each other out of building high rises. I knew what the fuck I was getting into, and I love every minute of it.

Oh yeah, sorry if you like these two, but I gotta post it. They get on my nerves. Just... No. Like fucking NO. Hard NO.

You know the true star of DOA is Kasumi. She's the Ryu of the series. These two trying to steal the spotlight, get the fuck outtahere. Ninja chick over kid maid and what ever the fuck honkers doing; Kasumi for me.

Play as Kasumi, Hitomi, Tina, Bayman, Christie.

Yea I know RRXX is Konami, but it's basically the same thing as DOA...
Gooner games.

DOAXBV (even the first two XBV games had something actually going for them, fan-service aside) and the second Rumble Roses aside, they are more than just "gooner games".

OK sure, having videos of women in tiny bikinis frolicking around in the beach, in slow motion, that you can pause was DEFINATLY not made for American and Japanese kids to fapp to. And they were ok games, especially Rumble Roses XX. I loved the song "Yankee Rose" at the beginning. But please don't be disingenuous, why do you think all the creepos ever ask for is a DOVX nude mod.

The funny thing is that NO ONE objectifies "those" women, that's why they get so mad LOL

Fighting games always need to have less serious characters like them.

I am not being disingenuous and those butt fucks don't count. Nor do they represent the entire fan base. Yes, it has fan service or heavily marketed on it, but the gameplay is solid or great across most games, and there is well done character pathos. Even though it doesn't reach its full potential with certain characters.

That's the entire point of the Yovideogames video in DOA2. Which is usually still considered the best in that franchise or 5LR.

Ironically, because of the first two XBVs, and DOA5 especially, the franchise ended up getting more female fans, and has a much larger female fan base. A lot of them bring LGBT. This generation of the fan base is almost dead even at this point. So it's more than "gooner shit" (the new definition you already know I loathe, and yes I know female "gooners" exist, but that is not the point either). My point being there are people who care about these characters for more than just there tits and ass, or don't mind them being sexy/handsome men either.

Also, Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, and Tekken had service for years, and yet no one cries about them doing it a lot too. All three still do it today.

Like I said they were enjoyable games. But the lore was paper thin, they couldn't give any American girls
in it with the proper accents. And asshole "The Worm" runs the whole island. I am only refering to the volleyball games. All the fighting one's I never played and I could give a crap about when there are much better fighters I'd want to play. for example: Tekken, Soul Caliber, Virtua Fighter Mortal Kombats, Street Fighters, King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, the list goes on and on. Hell I'd rather play Mondo's fight palace or the Full House Tournament fighter. But once again, everyone is free to like what they like

DOA5 and DOA6 fixed that, but Tina and Bass already had proper Texan accents in the English dub of DOA2.

Do as you wish, but most of the DOA titles are just as high caliber as many of the fighting game franchises you just mentioned. Especially the 3D games. DOA2-DOA5LR are better than Tekken 4 & 6, any Samurai Showdown after III, but not Samurai Showdown (2019), and Mortal Kombat in general.

DoA1 - It's clunky (you don't need to be a zoomer to come to this conclusion) but it feels like there's something there to keep coming back to.
DoA1++ - Aw shit! Ayane's playable! And holds are easier to do now!
DoA2 - The actual start of DoA, Ayane was THE waifu
DoA3 - Sadly I never got to play this 🫠
DoA4 - Amazing tech, horrible bugs and glitches due to stage geometry, Kokoro 4 life
DoA5 - Mila is fun, Ayane is less cute but still good, Kokoro 4 life, muh man Akira is here
DoA6 - Nah! I'm good, pass.. I'm not even looking forward to 6LR or even 7 🫠

I was just running some DOA2 on the bus home. And I thought I'd come here just to pay homage to two of the cleanest fits in the game. Lei Fang and Tina suited up. God I love this game. God I wish it had a story XD

Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter are pretty much the only 3D fighting games that I like. Never was a huge Tekken fan.

For me it's DOA and Soulcalibur. On top of just being cool and more familiar to me growing up. Both Soulcalibur and DOA have a similar philosophy of back and forth between fighters instead of Street Fighter and Tekken's stupid "first one to land a hit gets to do there 20 second cutscene that costs minimum 40% of your health bar." Soulcalibur and DOA have combos yes but they're shorter and the damage drop off is higher.

In SC1 the combos are like 4 hits and the damage drop off is insane. A proper good Soulcalibur fight involves constant back and forth, clanging weapons tryina slip through your enemies defense. It's way more engaging and consistently fun than SF6 and it's ridiculous fishing for a jab that goes into a really long combo. DOA may not have the clanging blades and more combo potential than SC but you can parry attacks, even when staggered by a combo starting kick. You can't fight back but the hold option still works so you can save yourself. That's huge for giving the player a chance to break free and keep the other player on there toes. Both DOA and SC imo, especially SC are more fun to play against AI as well due to the gameplay styles better complimenting simple input reading AI.

I really should play more Soulcalibur games. I've only played the first two, both of which were fantastic fighting games, but I've had the later ones (4, 5, 6) for so many years and they're still in the backlog.

DOA2 Ultimate on OG Xbox was absolutely sick as hell. Had an awesome time playing with people from the Gamespot forums. Before that I had DOA2 Hardcore on PS2. Me and a special guy friend played that game on his PS2 for hours unlocking the costumes. DOA3 was pretty good as a technical showcase for new hardware, but by then special guy friend was gone, and my family was never as into gaming as me. Sad. Brad was a cool damn character, my fav to use. My community on GS fell apart by Xbox 360 so I only played a brief bit of DOA4, because playing with random people being weird on XBL didn't have the same appeal.

Technically I was very briefly a very early top ranked player because everyone left the lobby after a fight I won and my rank score just kept going up endlessly until I was rank S something. Some kind of weird early glitch. Which was embarrassing because I was awful and couldn't live up to that rank. At least I got an achievement? never really cared about those, but the achievement sound was neato. I don't recognize the existence of DOA1 same as I do not recognize Street Fighter 1.

What i still like about SoulCalibur is how it still sounds like an Arcade fighter. Like, it sounds like I'm in an actual arcade. It really nails that aspect and doesn't get nearly enough credit for it.
