Wondering

Are cocoos a different breed of chicken in the setting or why cows and pigs doesn't have "Whimsical" names too?

This thing?

I meant the angels of destruction that looks like chicken from ALTTP Onwards
More like a-holes of de-cluckin' ::holdup
But I digress; I hate chickens for entirely separate reasons

I would say skyward sword is easily my favourite Zelda game, the music, bosses and dungeon design are vastly superior than the rest of the series in most ways to the point it cancels out the somewhat awkward sword combat, though the switch version improves on this quite a bit.

I need to play a link between worlds at some point, so much gushing over that game on RGT that I am being compelled to play it almost.

Also gotta point out the live action movie was directed by the same guy who made the recent Planet of The Apes movies. People are worried about Link talking in the movie. But what they forgot was the Planet of The Apes movies had all sign language in them. Maybe Link will stay mute? Who knows? Those movies had emotion and drama. Good fit for Zelda if you ask me.

hey did you guys know if you throw the boomerang in Link's Awakening/DX and then immediately pick up the flying blue chicken, you can hover in midair with the boomerang spinning under you and just float over enemies to destroy them? You can also pick everything up that they drop using that method and just drop back down when you've gathered enough stuff. Even better if you're playing the HD version and the items are set to not disappearing.

You can also shoot exploding arrows in Link's Awakening/DX by equipping both at the same time and pressing both buttons together.

I've always wondered why the boomerang in LA was so overpowered.

Was it a sort of debug item?
I have the Doylist headcanonthat since the game occurs in Link's dream, he made the boomerang, an usually useless outsude of puzzle solving, a throwable nuke

I don't really wanna make a whole post of my own about it because I do enough shitting on games in my posts, so lemme be on the low down when I say this. I don't get it... Speaking purely on the pre-BOTW games and that formula. I firmly believe that everything Zelda does good, some other game does way better. Isn't Zelda just good because they haven't played any other adventure games? Like what does Twilight Princess do that Dark Souls 1 doesn't do better.

Pretty much all the big Zelda games (again, pre-BOTW) are fake open world. "Here's your open world but only this specific spot on the map is accessible and anything else you can see you don't have the item for" is a problem in all of them. The combat is barely more than pretend combat (although credit to TP for adding some more moves), the puzzles and such are hit or miss, some dungeons are fine but some are just annoying. That's about the only thing I can think of that has a fighting chance. DS1 looks better, plays MUCH better, way more replayable, way better story told with way less dialogue, better variety in environments and gameplay. Why do people love Zelda so much?

Why stop at Dark Souls? You want a story? Pick ANY other game of a similar genre and you're in better hands. Ys for example isn't anything spectacular but with a similar amount of dialogue, Origin, 1, 2 and especially 10 (the ones I've played thus far) are far better at presenting a grandiose adventure. Ys X is really just Wind Waker if that game was actually good. Recommend it for anyone who likes Zelda, especially WW.

Idk man I just have never vibed with Zelda. Even if I admit they're not THAT bad just not for me, I still think they're grotesquely overrated and really it's only kept afloat because of who makes it... At least until BOTW, that game takes all of Zelda's crap and fixes it. Love that game. TOTK can fuck right off though. I really hope they branch out a bit with the next one in terms of story and gameplay because Zelda is always one I've wanted to love but I've only finished a handful of the games without dying of boredom.

In short, It's so normal, so sterile, so safe, so samey. Why is this franchise so beloved when all the games, while probably ok on there own, are totally defeated by ANY other examples of games that do anything similar. It does nothing spectacular, it's all just ok.

Like what does Twilight Princess do that Dark Souls 1 doesn't do better.
Sorry but comparing Zelda to Dark Souls is like comparing Apples to Oranges. Sure there are some game mechanics that FromSoft has taken from Ocarina of Time in Demons' Souls yet one is clearly a JRPG series while the other is Action/Adventure (like Okami or Shadow of the Colossus) without any class nor levelling system of any kind.

They're Open Worlds the same way that Metroid is an Open ended game: requiring a tool/ability to progress further is the basis of both series. Even Dark Souls requires you to get a specific key (or lowering the water/cooling down the lava from different areas so you could progress in the level).

Combats in top down Zelda are still requiring you to have spacing and knowing which item is the best against an enemy type.

The puzzles being hit or miss is most likely a personal thing regarding them. Same with the dungeons.

I'd beg to differ about Dark Souls because it's just more realistic. The story in Zelda isn't the main focus (so is the story in many video games). Environment variety? I don't see how there are more in one series than the other.

As for replayability and gameplay it's also another subjective thing but heavy rolls and the management of a stamina bar aren't the same thing as Zelda's Z-targeting. I understand that TP and WW starts slower yet Zelda games are replayable and speedran.

There again it's Apples and Oranges. I prefer Ys but they're not the same as Zelda games.

I disagree about Ys X which is one of the weakest modern entries with the sailing being anecdotal at best. Wind Waker may have been rushed and unfinished yet it came out two decades prior and aside from the boat there's nothing similar in both games. They're even selling the game another time with Proud Nordics which is bad for buyers of the original and the gameplay is yet another parry/dodge action with less possibilities than Lacrimosa of Dana and Monstrum Nox... I'd also argue that an adventure doesn't need to be grandiose to be good.

Idk man I just have never vibed with Zelda. Even if I admit they're not THAT bad just not for me, I still think they're grotesquely overrated and really it's only kept afloat because of who makes it...
Calling games "grotesquely overrated" just because you "never vibed with them" is ridiculous.

Being safe isn't an issue. On the other hand calling them samey is not the truth whatsoever.

I don’t know how people feel about it now but back then I remember Majora’s Mask getting some hate and I’m there just enjoying the hell out of it lol

Ocarina of Time is my favorite of the series, I still have my gold edition. That water temple…what memories…..

I don't properly remember how people received MM as I wasn't checking the web at that time but I remember various comments about the whole 3 days time limit and how there are only 4 main dungeons compared to OoT's 12.

I can understand the annoyance about the time limit (at least there are ways to slow down time and have ways to be quicker in dungeons).

I forgot that LA DX HD has been updated since its first release, I assumed that it was just a "one time release" of the game.

I appreciate the added options so that I can appreciate a more modern experience while still being a bit of a purist regarding some of the features (I don't really like dynamic lighting) because I think that objectively having to press start each time to swap items is something that didn't age well about the game.

I hope that the Minish Cap decomp on PC will allow more options

My wishlist is to see X and Y buttons for items and semi transparent UI (text and prompts).
Oh and it just got updated to the 0.2.0 a few hours ago.

Oh yeah, zelda the legend and best game ever!

After how well received the talking flower and Myles Mackenzie were. I have BIG plans for Navi in the new Zelda movie!

Before the Switch I think with a Wii you had basically the most Zelda games available on a single platform:
  • Wind Waker
  • Ocarina of Time + Master Quest
  • Collector's Edition (Zelda 1, Zelda 2, OoT & MM)
  • Twilight Princess (GC & Wii)
  • Skyward Sword
I forgot if there was ALTTP and the Gameboy games on the VC on the Wii.

By the way, was OoT in Collector and the bonus disc the exact same rom as the N64 one?

The 3DS had 14 Zelda games (DS included)

I see the two DS ones and the four 3DS games (TFS included)... but what about the rest? Minish Cap via the Ambassador program?

That, plus you could download Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Link's Awakening, the two Oracle games, Four Swords and... uh... maybe that's it.
