Yu-Gi-Oh!

The time I playd Yu-Gu-Oh the most was even before the first banned list was there. When on tournemants everybody had a chaos deck containing Chaos Emperor Dragon, Yata-Garasu and overpowered cards like Raigeki and Harpys Feather Duster. I then played less and less. Later only the GBA games. I really liked GX Dual Academy.

Some years ago I tried to get back into the TCG. With all that Synchro monsters and stuff I really did not like it. Even back than Yu-Gi-Oh! often hat way to long combo chains in early games. But know I feel like I make one move and then my opponent makes a combo with 20 cards in the first round and finishes me in one or maybe two rounds. Probably it's not that extreme but that is how it feels to me. I stopped trying to get back into the TCG. For a brief amount of time I then tried Magic for the first time and I liked it way more. But due to time constraints at the moment I don't play any TCG in real life and I stick to sometimes still Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Duel Academy.

But I still love the designs of Yu-Gi-Oh! way more than Magic for example.

I'm just like reading through this thread and realizing that I'll probably never get passed Duel Monsters ... ever. 😅 I actually have and tried Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution ... but yeah :/ Can't get into the whole link summoning and other features

Yep ... I guess I'll still play those GBA titles since they still remain my favourite

I think you should look into Edison or Goat format, they have very large communities and are older formats, although I just want you to be aware even in those Yu-Gi-Oh has always been a combo heavy game (as you mentioned yourself)
I think as a card game it has the highest skill expression as well as the most competitive playerbase, although if you just want to have fun and nothing more you should try out the Speed Duel products, they're designed for play with friends in mind, they come with pre made 20 card decks and it's a lot simpler than the regular game as well as having no summoning mechanic other than Fusion and Ritual. No Synchro, no xyz, no Link and no Pendulum. Give it a try if you're interested.

Basically the same thing I said to the other person, although if you like the games you should try Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus, it's really fun and has my favourite format out of all the games. Oh and it has tons of customization to the point where you can even customize your Duel Runner with different parts and paints.
Also yes, it has card games on motor cycles and it's incredibly fun.

Sorry to make a random post but I just love the early manga.

Before sacrifice was needed for over 4 star monsters, that effects were quite rare and even before Synchronisation was even conceived.
This guy Kaiba hired 3 professional hitmen to actually KILL Yugi Jonouchi and Honda, had them strapped to electric chairs, had Jonouchi play a DEATH GAME against a real life psychopath serial killer and put them in a tiny room with blocks trying to crush them to death
That guy was not playing around

While I understand his character development I feel that Duelist Kingdom Kaiba has softened because of him caring about his brother.

But the dub kinda kept his sassy attitude so there's that.

Another cool shot:

Oh ! DS game ! Alright I'll give it try since I'm currently not playing anything new anyway haha
I guess that should get more more up to speed on how the gameplay is nowadays ~
Now that I think about it ... Nightmare Troubadour was the last (shockingly most recent LOL) YuGiOh game I've played ~

and 4Kids would somehow censor this with the infamous invisible gun and ... umm ... what would the chest be reanimated as ... LOL ... well if it was an anime scene I mean ~

--------

I don't supposed anyone here watches the Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged series on YouTube by littlekuriboh by any chances yeah ? :O I ended up being a fan of his and TeamFourStar since I grew to like their parody takes on both YGO and DBZ

Just keep in mind it has events from the animes second to final arc, I know there's a 5D's DS game that takes place in the first arc, I think it's the World Championship 2009 one, so maybe you can give that a try as start unless you don't care about the 5D's anime (which is the best Yu-Gi-Oh anime in my opinion in terms of story and characters)

I got some love-hate relationship with 4Kids.

I also liked that Mokuba wasn't that nice in the beginning

They're in grade school...

Another one for the trip

The sad fact is that the original Yu-Gi-Oh is just kind of average
Season 0 I mean, or where these pictures come from, it really is just a generic gambling manga, it would never be able to compete with stuff like Kaiji or Usogui, thankfully we got card games in interdimensional space, it's much more fun and unique

I think takahashi retconned a some things from the early manga. It's been a while since i read the manga but i think that
He retconned what yami bakura is: at first he was an evil spirit within the millenium ring that wanted to collect the other millenium items to get an unspecified dark power but at the end he is supposed to be Zorc or a piece of Zorc or something. The appearance of Zorc in the early manga when yugi's friend were turned into figurines might imply takahashi always intended yami bakura to be Zorc but who knows, any time that yami bakura mentions the power within the millenum items he talks as if he didn't knew what was sealed in them.

Another strange thing is that Shadi is revealed to be the spirit of the stone tablet where the millenium items were made, and was instructed to help Atem but the first time they met, Shadi doesn't recognize Atem. Maybe takahashi only sort of knew what the wanted to do with Shadi as a character but the changes in the manga made him change that, i don't know

Also, Yami Bakura was done dirty: He only won once, in an off.-screen duel, in the entire manga.

Yes he retcons a lot from it, so much so that people believe Marik is the villain of Yu-Gi-Oh when in reality it's Bakura
