@Nebulon_Galaxy makes a good point. It is the highest grossing in terms of raw sales, that is a good measure of "iconic"Tetrimino?

People KNOW Tetris, even if they never played it, i think it has more popularity than Mickey Mouse and probably in-line with pac-man and mario@Nebulon_Galaxy makes a good point. It is the highest grossing in terms of raw sales, that is a good measure of "iconic"

Well no, JRPGs existed before Ys. Dragon Slayer also from Falcom is actually considered the first Action RPG. And even further back, Dragon and the Princess on PC-88 which released a year after the first Wizardry but a year before Wizardry got Japan releases. It’s technically the first true JRPG. On top of that, it’s clear that Wizardry (and possibly Ultima) had more of an impact on both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, so if anything created the JRPG genre, it was the former. Many mechanics from Wizardry are still staples in modern RPGs and as much as I love Ys, it did not have that kind of motion. The stuff Wizardry pioneered in games included buffs, debuffs, a party limit (though a limit of 4 was normalized by Gauntlet, but Wizardry was the first to have more than one character), class hierarchies, permadeath and even alignments among other things. Even the battle command screen we’re so used to seeing, Wizardry.I'd say Adol Christine from the Ys series. The original Ys was one of the major inspirations for the first Final Fantasy, and we wouldn't have the jRPG genre without it.
