White Creek, a new horror game, launching on Sega Dreamcast

Yeah I saw this trailer yesterday and was like "wait, actual Dreamcast?!" at the end. I wonder how creators justify spending extra time to make their game run on an old console like that. Maybe its partially to get more attention? I bet many media outlets will write about how crazy it is to release a Dreamcast game in 2026, right?

It's rather simple, they build the entire game with the limitations of the console in mind & designed specifically to run on that system, just like homebrew, then they just go the extra mile of burning CD-Roms and sell them on their website probably(limited copies ofcourse not mass produced), last step is to just port it to modern platforms like steam & such. I believe the Devs of terminator 2-D no fate did the same on sega genesis.

Wait.. that game has a genesis port?

Yeah when it was about to launch & I was subscribed to their YouTube channel they made videos of how they developed it, the reason it looks & plays like an actual genesis games it's because they built it on it then ported it everywhere else. I believe they did a limited run physical copies of the game that they sold on their website.
Edit: Yeah, found the Making of, they basically made a game engine that allows them to port their games to any console they want to, it's impresive that they have ported Xenocrisis to even the gba lmao

There's a fair amount of homebrew games for old consoles like these. You can sell a few copies to collectors and then sell it on Steam anyway. The Dreamcast in particular has a bunch of those, but usually it's just random basic 2D games that don't take advantage of the hardware at all, so I appreciate that this is a little closer to a real Dreamcast game.

I love when new games release for old platforms. Perhaps a bit gimmicky I suppose, but it gives me something new to try on my minis. (In this case I'd probably run it on Raspberry Pi since there's no Dreamcast Mini.)
