Who's the best romance option from any RPG you've played?

For me, I think it'd be Jack from Mass Effect 2. She seems cold at first, but it's clear that she's just defensive because she's been hurt before. Beneath her icy exterior, she's clever, kind, and relentlessly driven.

they are fantastic games to play. you get special little bonuses for playing them in sequential order too. and the trilogy games allow you to bypass some of the earlier parts of the game if you have clear data from the 2nd and 3rd parts.
Pi is my absolute favorite character from the series and in general. my first upload on deviantart is a drawing of her.

i only played a bit of the psp one. there's a comic version of it as well.
it seems like a player gets warped into the game and some time travel shenanigans happen. and you can only have two characters in the party at a time. i did not get very far in it. i think the translation patch had only covered the main story at that point.
every character gets an second form, like haseo does in the trilogy. Pi's outfit is my favorite for her; it gives off sexy badass librarian vibes.
i'll work my way over to it at some point. i think you can find the game in the repo, along with the ps2 games.

Maybe Jaheira from Baldur's Gate 2? You had to work at it a fair bit from what I remember due to the events that start the game and also extend back to the first game, definitely a lot of trauma and needing to slowly lower her guard. I enjoy the Persona games a lot but I wouldn't say the romance options in those are particularly in-depth, just fun. Futaba's romance made the most sense given how miserable and shut-in she is before meeting Joker compared to afterward, of course she'd be attached that much to someone who improved her life and gave her confidence.

If it were canon and not in a waifu gacha game, I'd say the newest story arc from Zenless Zone Zero. They spend a ton of time establishing the main character's bond with Ye Shunguang and more or less infer that it's a bond of love, although it's never spoken out loud as such. It feels believable, given the amount of things that happen and how things play out, it's built up over a good amount of time. Of course, it is a waifu gacha game, and they can't pick a canon romance without pissing off various parts of the fanbase, so it doesn't count.

...Is the Cult of Jiggly still a thing? That thread is probably quite inactive, huh? We might as well merge it with this thread, along with the skeletons of all the other lesser date threads that were previously absorbed, and enjoy basking in the glow of the epicenter of all things inspired by Jiggly. Then, and only then, could we ascend to previously-forgotten and thought-unthinkable levels of power in the thread: something more than minor occasional post activity.

Probably not so far. 2025 had me in multiple relationships that ended poorly, so I'm thinking 2026 is gonna be my year to enjoy and invest in myself.
